"Are all the disciples taught in the academy like this?" Gu pulled Zhang Chenyu to the side of the road and asked quietly.
"What should we do? Just let them shoot her full of arrows?" The two were completely focused on one thing.
As soon as Gu's words fell, a flurry of arrows shot towards Yoyo. Seeing those wooden spikes flying toward her, Yoyo narrowed her large fox eyes. The fierce demeanor she had shown earlier was nowhere to be seen, replaced by an aura reminiscent of a wild beast from the jungle, emanating from her small body and making her seem dangerously formidable.
The rain of arrows fell but caused no harm at all. This only piqued Liu Xiu's interest in capturing the fox; he stopped shooting arrows and urged his horse forward, hoping to catch the seemingly indestructible creature.
Wait, why has that fox grown so large? Liu Xiu's astonished gaze fell upon a giant Red Fox that stood as tall as a tree before him. With a swift swipe of its paw, it sent both man and horse flying, causing Liu Xiu to crash into a large tree before finally coming to a stop.
A group of people rushed forward to help Liu Xiu up, checking to see if he was dead.
"Is Yoyo okay?"
Zhang Chenyu stared in disbelief at the towering Red Fox that resembled a massive tree. She could hardly imagine that the once docile Yoyo could transform into such a fierce beast in an instant, much like Gu Yi.
"She’s just like that man Yan Dong," Zhang Chenyu thought. "He seems gentle and weak like a scholar, but when he gets serious, he doesn’t blink an eye as lives are lost. He’s simply a devil, just like Gu Bian. I never expected Yoyo could be like that too; both she and that man are anything but ordinary."
Yoyo stepped closer to Liu Xiu, who was surrounded by his guards. They leaned back in fear but found themselves unable to see anything beyond the giant fox's knees; its outline was barely discernible. Some guards even shifted their feet, contemplating turning to flee.
"Come back, Yoyo."
Hearing Gu's voice, Yoyo's eyes, which had been squinting, suddenly widened. It turned and dashed toward Gu, its body visibly shrinking. When it reached Gu, it leaped into their arms, playfully demanding to be scratched.
"I'm Liu Xiu, a student of the academy," Liu Xiu said as Gu held Yoyo in front of them.
Seeing Yoyo in Gu's arms made Liu Xiu instinctively want to step back, but a large tree blocked the way. The soldiers nearby firmly protected Liu Xiu from behind.
"What are you doing? He told me his father is the Divine Might General at the western border of No Lu Kingdom. I hope I haven't offended him; otherwise, I might end up being dealt with by his father."
Before Liu Xiu could finish speaking, they noticed a little fox in Gu Huai's arms, squinting and staring at her. Liu Xiu felt a chill run down her spine; if Dongyi were to provoke the Fox Spirit, Coco would be crushed into pulp. She quickly closed her mouth.
"I don't deny it," Liu Xiu said. "Do you know her? How could you not recognize such a person?" Gu tilted their head and glanced at Zhang Chenyu.
Zhang Chenyu looked awkwardly at the panicked Liu Xiu and explained, "Keke must have been frightened by Yoyo. She's been spoiled since childhood and has never experienced such a shock."
That was true; they were indeed quite different.
"Where are we going?"
To the City God Temple.
Watching the man and woman gradually move away, Liu Xiu finally sighed in relief, completely forgetting her previous arrogance. She ordered her guards to escort her back to the academy. What was wrong?
