Four Light Speed Talismans lay before them, and there were four of them. One talisman was enough to withstand a Nascent Soul Cultivator's Golden Bell Talisman. With two Revival Talismans in hand, they had a slim chance; without those items, they would likely be defeated before the fight even began.
The old man pondered for a moment, then suddenly stepped back. Using his spiritual energy, he drew a line on the ground and turned to Gu Ping, saying, "Actually, they don't need to give me that little brat's things. They are destined to fight anyway. When the time comes, the Great Jin Yang Family will have their chance too, don't you think?"
Gu Ping took a step forward, crouching beside the line and looking at the old man from the east with a humble posture. He slowly replied, "There won't be any opportunity. If he directly hands over the items to the Jade Void Sect or if they fall into the hands of any Daoist Sect, I doubt the Light Path Classic would stand by while that happens and confront the Daoist Sect head-on."
Everyone fell into deep thought; everything was becoming clear now. The Great Jin Yang Family needed Gu Ping to hold onto The Book of Radiant Path to support the full-scale war between the Light Path Classic and the Daoist Sect, which would trigger a Great War among Mahayana Practitioners.
Gu Ping sought to take advantage of this situation to throw away his ambitions or perhaps align himself with the Light Path Classic. From what it looked like now, that should be the best and least risky choice. Unless absolutely necessary, Gu Ping would not choose that path.
"Alright, I'll take what I need," he said. "Bu Luo, I can't let Old Man down."
As he spoke, the old man pulled out four golden Talismans from his Soul Ring, one brown Talisman, and two green Talismans, handing them over to Gu Ping.
Hearing the old man's words, Gu Ping let out a sigh of relief. He looked at the seven talismans being handed over and held his breath as he shakily accepted them. These talismans were specifically designed for mortals; once crushed, they could activate their respective spells. Gu Ping felt uneasy and glanced at Liu Lao Jiu for reassurance. Seeing Liu Lao Jiu nod gave him complete peace of mind.
"That kid is excused now," Gu Ping signaled to Liu Lao Jiu and Zhuang Zhixian. He then glanced at Yang Yan and noticed her flushed smile. Not knowing what to say, he simply gazed deeply at her before waving goodbye to Liu Lao Jiu and Zhuang Zhixian as the three turned to leave.
Just as they exited Tenghai Pavilion, Gu Ping suddenly recalled the old man's words.
"Can you tell him if what I have on my leg is anything?"
Gu Ping's foot hovered in mid-air as he was about to step out of the grand hall. In that moment, it felt as if the door before him was a gateway to hell, slowly opening its embrace towards him. Gu Ping forced himself to remain silent, biting down hard on his tongue, the metallic taste of blood awakening his senses.
"The Book of Radiant Path"
After uttering those four words, Gu Ping quickened his pace and left the grand hall without looking back. Liu Lao Jiu and Zhuang Zhixian beside him failed to notice anything unusual about Gu Ping. Even Gu Ping himself was unsure whether those four words were truly what he wanted to say. " Bu Fou " The old man had pressured him into speaking; that feeling was something Gu Ping had never experienced before, even in nightmares.
As they reached the palace gate, Liu Lao Jiu asked, "Where is Jie Donglai going?"
"To Jinhuang Temple, to find the Little Monk and Ling Chanzi. Perhaps their Buddha can save him," Gu Ping replied with a smile, unconsciously pondering whether believing in Buddha was just self-deception.
Ling Chanzi had set off with Gu Ping on the second day of entering Jincheng, having heard that Gu Ping sought to stay at a girl's house. The Little Monk, however, refused to go no matter what Gu Ping said.
Initially, Ling Chanzi mentioned he would stay at a temple in Jincheng. Yang Yan pointed out one of the few remaining sizable temples in Jincheng for the Little Monk. Upon hearing about Jinhuang Temple, the Little Monk happily went there.
In those days, Gu Ping had been investigating an incident from twenty years ago and nearly forgot about the innocent Little Monk, who would blush at just a few casual words.
Although the details were unclear, Cigarette Paper had already uncovered the relationship between Minghong, the Great Jin Yang Family, and Jade Void Sect. With that information, Gu Ping had armed himself like a turtle with rabbit ears—Light Speed Talisman and Golden Bell Talisman—one resembling rabbit ears and the other a turtle shell; perhaps it should be called a Rabbit Spirit carrying a turtle shell.
By now, it was nearing dusk. The Little Monk stood before the Buddha in the grand hall, silently reciting The Universal Worthy Bodhisattva's Conduct and Vows.
As Gu Ping stepped into the temple, he saw the evening glow illuminating Jinhuang Temple's pagoda. The crimson sunset bathed the solemn Buddha with Auspicious Appearance in light. Gu Ping quietly straightened his right leg in front of his chest, thumb pointing outward as he formed the Fearless Seal and bowed slightly.
As he took a few more steps, he heard the sound of monks reciting Buddhist scriptures outside the temple.
At that moment, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva Mahasattva praised the merits of the Tathagata. He addressed the Bodhisattvas and Shan Cai, saying, "Noble sons, the merits of the Tathagata are such that if all the Buddhas in the ten directions were to speak of them for countless eons, even to the extent of the number of dust particles in all the Buddha realms, it would be an endless endeavor. If one wishes to achieve this gateway of merit, one should cultivate ten great vows. What are these ten? First, to pay respect to all Buddhas. Second, to praise the Tathagata. Third, to extensively offer alms."
