"Is there really no way?" Luchenzhou stepped out of the house, gazing at the corner.
The ginkgo tree in the yard was lush and full of leaves, its branches heavy with ginkgo nuts. Suddenly, a yellowing ginkgo leaf fluttered down from the tree, as if the wind had stirred it. It was time for the leaves to fall.
Mu Qinglong shook his head. More people emerged from the house, gradually surrounding the corner. The leaves hung suspended in the air, refusing to touch the ground.
What Mu Qinglong said echoed like a devil's whisper, a hoarse voice that chilled the heart. He felt a sense of unwillingness; why was this happening to him?
A figure slowly emerged from the shadows, looking as if it were rotting. Pus-filled sores and blood scabs covered its body, with blood mixed with pus flowing eastward. Despite being a thoroughly decayed corpse, it bore a delicate face.
"I shouldn't have killed."
Should he have died? The exquisite face twisted into a grotesque expression, its features contorting together; it did not want to die.
They were mere mortals; he shouldn't have wronged them.
But who could he wrong? He realized they wanted to use him, to make him trouble those from the Jade Void Sect. But they had discovered their intentions and fled, leaving behind that unknown entity that swung its limbs, sending a blade of pus and blood sweeping toward everyone in the yard.
"Why kill if you're not going to run?" Luchenzhou felt a pang of pain; he truly did not want to fight. But upon seeing that monster before him, he drew his sword. The blade glimmered with a blood-red light as two blades clashed with a tremendous sound, creating shockwaves that snapped the ginkgo tree in half and sent leaves flying everywhere.
Run? Where could he run? With that ghastly appearance, where could he escape? The monster charged directly at Luchenzhou, launching an attack with its leg.
Luchenzhou swung his sword at the monster's limb, hoping to sever it. However, to his astonishment, the creature's body felt as hard as metal, making it impossible for Luchenzhou's sword to penetrate even slightly.
Luchenzhou suddenly heard a loud shout. Without thinking, he rolled backward. When he stood up, he saw a leg and an arm emerging from the ground where he had just rolled. It gripped fiercely.
"Kick it away, be careful not to get caught! He’s already unconscious; all that’s left is resentment," Mu Qinglong urged.
As soon as the words left his mouth, another loud shout interrupted everyone who was gathering their strength for an attack. A female disciple from Lutuo Pavilion cried out, tears streaming down her rosy cheeks, falling to the ground with a thud as she muttered the words "not asking for anything."
The monster was also a disciple of Lutuo Pavilion, a junior of Luchenzhou—Hu Xiyan.
"Is that name familiar?" someone asked. The person looked as beautiful as their name suggested, and their strength was no less impressive. Such a disciple surely wouldn’t have a little sister who was too ruthless.
Little sister Lin Zhou sounded like a boy's name. Perhaps her family thought it would be fitting to give a girl a masculine name, but later their master discovered this and brought her to Lutuo Pavilion. Thus began the fierce bond between the two.
Luchenzhou, distracted for just a moment, was caught off guard as Hu Xiyan tore away a large chunk of flesh from his back. He immediately pulled away.
"No!" Mu Qinglong shouted. "Don’t hesitate!"
This time, everyone ignored Lin Zhou's cries and focused on attacking the monster that had transformed into Hu Xiyan with their weapons. But who could really land a hit?
Mu Qinglong looked at Luchenzhou, his eyes filled with sorrow. There was nothing they could do.
Without explanation, Luchenzhou raised his sword and struck it against his own neck. In the astonished gazes of everyone present, he beheaded himself, and strangely, no blood splattered; a body simply fell to the ground.
Next to the corpse, a deep, eerie light emerged as a grotesque doll sprang out from Luchenzhou's ring. The doll was dripping with blood and quickly transformed into a Pus. Luchenzhou stepped out from a profound door that the Pus doll had created, naked at first, but then he clothed himself and retrieved the Soul Ring amidst the astonished looks of the crowd.
"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and take down that monster!" he urged. He had already used Hu Xiyan; he didn't have another substitute doll left. Luchenzhou anxiously brandished his sword and charged into the fray against the monstrous assault.
Mu Qinglong finally felt relieved. He understood the power of the substitute doll—those unique dolls from the Nine Nether World. Every ancient being in the Transcendence Period would have their Major Sect forge one for their core disciples. While celestial techniques could sever the connection between the substitute doll and its master, it didn't prevent that thing from being truly effective. Although it was an essential item for those in the Transcendence Period, core disciples would often be given one as a precaution.
Now was not the time to deal with that monster. Mu Qinglong turned around and threw out an Azure Leaf, beginning to cast a spell.
