"Objectively speaking, isn't that just a Bodhi tree?" the shop assistant retorted.
"Isn't the phoenix that resides there also a Bodhi?" Gu Ping smiled, looking at the shop assistant.
The young man touched his neck with his left hand and said, "I'm afraid the phoenix you seek isn't in this little shop."
"I'll tell him where to find it; he can search for himself," Gu Ping said, no longer arguing. He pointed to the two pieces of clothing closest to him. "Those two will do."
"Please wait a moment, I'll have Yi Dong bring them up for you so you can try them on and see if they fit," the shop assistant said, gesturing towards the stairs. "Perhaps there's a phoenix you want upstairs?"
Gu Ping nodded and led the bewildered Liu Lao Jiu up the stairs. Liu Lao Jiu hadn’t caught the earlier conversation between the two, but he knew that Gu Ping's decisions were always sound, especially at critical moments.
"I don't deny it," Liu Lao Jiu couldn't help but comment. "What were we talking about with Bodhi and phoenixes? It sounds so convoluted; it's almost dizzying."
Liu Lao Jiu clearly noticed that there were many good points in Gu Ping's words, which seemed intentional. Moreover, Gu Ping had never been to Great Jin or Youzhou City before; how did he seem to know the shop assistant so well? But Liu Lao Jiu focused on their conversation itself, realizing that was where his intelligence lay—he needed to understand what he needed to know.
Wei Wuyou stood beside a tree where a bonfire had been lit, gazing at the moon that resembled a jade plate. There had never been a moon in Nine Nether World.
From a young age, Wei Wuyou often heard his master speak of how beautiful the moon was in the World of Mortals. Now that he finally saw it, he felt none of the melancholy his master described. To Wei Wuyou, it was just a round glowing object—what was so beautiful about that?
Wei Wuyou didn't understand. Just like many girls in his Sect adored glowing Night Pearls, he didn’t share that sentiment. Sometimes he wished to appreciate things with them—flowers, trees, or even his junior sister's little dog—but he simply didn’t get it. He couldn’t feel the beauty they found in those things.
Wei Wuyou continued searching for something beautiful, something that would resonate with him. An elder who had taught him swordsmanship once told him that one day he would understand what beauty looked like in their eyes. It was okay not to understand now; one day he would come to know it—there would be such a day.
Wei Wuyou couldn't wait any longer. He truly wanted to know what beauty looked like in their eyes. Every time he saw those people find something that matched their ideals of beauty, they would always show such an intoxicated expression. But he thought to himself that he would probably never be considered beautiful in their eyes.
Coco then remarked, "So that's why you named yourself Wei Wuyou."
"Oh, is that so? No worries?" a voice chimed in.
Wei Wuyou retracted his gaze from the sky and turned towards the source of the voice. A young man, about his age, stood across from him by the campfire. Wei Wuyou recognized him.
The boy exuded a strong aura of the Ninth Underworld, just like him. His name was Luchenzhou, another prodigy hailed for his talents. However, they were different; while Wei Wuyou was a disciple of the Ming Huang Sect, Luchenzhou belonged to the Lutuo Pavilion. The Ming Huang Sect was affiliated with Youluo, while Lutuo Pavilion represented Hades.
Wei Wuyou positioned his legs against the hilt of his sword, ready to draw it at any moment. Although both came from the Ninth Underworld, the relationship between Bu Luo, Youluo, and Hades was far from amicable.
"Is this our first meeting?" Wei Wuyou thought. It always felt like this; didn’t he see those disciples from Ming Huang Sect? Unlike Wei Wuyou, Luchenzhou didn’t immediately turn expressionless upon encountering an enemy.
If it weren't for Luchenzhou's aura from the Ninth Underworld, he would definitely be seen as a charming and sunny young man. Perhaps that was why Luchenzhou was more popular in the Ninth Underworld than Wei Wuyou; many girls must have been captivated by him.
Wei Wuyou glanced behind Luchenzhou and scanned the area. Just as he was about to spot someone from his sect, a small stone hit him on the head. Turning around, he realized that his fellow disciples were standing behind him.
Wei Wuyou smiled sheepishly, like a child who had done something embarrassing, causing everyone present to burst into laughter.
Among them was Mu Qinglong, Wei Wuyou's senior brother and leader of the Ming Huang Sect team.
"Junior Brother," Mu Qinglong said with a laugh, "I really am foolish! Hahaha!"
While Bu Luo laughed along with them, another disciple from Ming Huang Sect suddenly stopped laughing and cast a cold glare at a group from Lutuo Pavilion across from them.
Everyone present simultaneously put away their smiles, their faces serious as they looked at the opposing side, wary of one another.
At that moment, Luchenzhou suddenly said, "Why is it that we can laugh, but they cannot? They are laughing!" As he spoke, he burst into laughter. The people from Lutuo Pavilion joined in with hearty laughter, and even the members of Ming Huang Sect could not maintain their cold expressions and began to laugh as well.
Bu Luo knew that such laughter would soon turn into chilling cries for blood; it was something that had been destined ever since everyone chose their sects.
