However, Lin Bai was very clear in his heart. There was no doubt that this must be some kind of Exotic Species with unique abilities and powers. The existence of Exotic Species, though it had only emerged briefly over the past twenty years, had already been discovered in various forms and possessed an astonishing array of capabilities that left people in awe.
Among these, the most common category was undoubtedly the physical mutation type, where the body exhibited striking and noticeable changes. For instance, imagine an ant growing to the size of an Elephant, a colossal creature. Or consider a crab whose flesh underwent unimaginable mutations, becoming tougher than steel and incredibly resilient. Its pincers could effortlessly snap a Nail in half.
Next were those bestowed with the unique name of Transparent Mutation. These creatures would transform into semi-transparent forms, allowing them to pass through any material without obstruction. They could move freely and pose immeasurable harm to humans, just like the perilous attack that nearly brought Lin Bai to death, which originated from a Translucent Centipede.
As far as people currently understood Exotic Species, they could essentially be categorized into these two main types.
One type relies purely on overwhelming brute force, delivering unmatched physical attacks. The other type is relatively more bizarre and peculiar, employing strange and unusual methods of attack. However, in this extraordinary moment, Lin Bai unexpectedly encountered a completely new category of attack from an Exotic Species that had never been discovered before.
At this moment, the figure lying on the hospital bed underwent a profound transformation. It stood there steadily, completely motionless, facing Lin Bai directly without any deviation. Its eyes were quietly closed, shrouded in silence.
In the next instant, the eyes behind the glasses slowly opened, gently and gradually. The corners of its mouth began to curl up slowly, bit by bit. This Exotic Species, which had taken on Lin Bai's appearance, revealed a chilling smile that was bone-chilling to the extreme—an eerie and terrifying grin that sent shivers down one's spine.
What the hell is this thing! Lin Bai could no longer contain the surging anger within him. His heart raced with fury as he cursed vehemently. He keenly sensed that the current situation had reached an utterly disastrous point. This bizarre and ominous entity was clearly intent on launching a fierce and violent attack against him. First, it had transformed into his likeness, and now it sought to cruelly and mercilessly kill him.
Was it trying to take over what belonged to others? However, that was no longer his concern at this moment. There was no need to rack his brain and ponder deeply about the situation.
Lin Bai moved with lightning speed. He glanced around anxiously, then suddenly grabbed the wall-mounted rack with all his strength, holding it tightly in his hands. Yet, he had no confidence or assurance that he could defeat this terrifying creature that sent chills down his spine. Even so, he knew he had to fight for his life!
He did not want to be easily subdued and have his precious life extinguished by some mysterious and eerie entity whose origins were unknown.
At that tense and precarious moment, an explosion erupted from a corner of the hospital room. Immediately, a cacophony of chaotic sounds surged in from outside, like a tidal wave crashing in.
Outside, the night was as dark as ink, thick enough to seem as if it could drip down. Only a few distant streetlights emitted a faint yellow glow, adding a glimmer of hope to the darkness.
Inside the hospital room, the lights flickered erratically, illuminating Lin Bai's face filled with fear and determination.
"Quick! Get in there! Evacuate the crowd! Stay alert!"
The air was filled with the short, urgent cries of countless people, rising and falling in a chaotic symphony. The sound of hurried footsteps added to the cacophony, mingling with the anxious chatter of nurses and patients. Continuous electronic beeps echoed down the corridor.
Lin Bai felt as if he had blinked and suddenly found himself transported from a dark, terrifying hell into a vibrant, bustling reality. He was flustered, panic gripping him as he turned his head toward the corner of the room.
Two young people stood there, dressed in inconspicuous clothing without any noticeable insignia. They held tightly onto an oddly shaped object with a peculiar grip, cautiously emerging from the shadows of the wall. They moved with the care of someone walking on thin ice.
One of them moved like lightning, swiftly and decisively pointing the grip toward Lin Bai. A deep, mysterious blue light flashed momentarily. Before Lin Bai could react, a monstrous figure on the bed let out a heart-wrenching scream, stumbling heavily to the ground.
"Target acquired!" one of the young people exclaimed involuntarily in a hushed tone. The two quickly twisted their grips as if activating some hidden switch. When they pressed down again, two bright red beams of light shot directly at the creature.
At that moment, the tension in the room reached its peak. Lin Bai gripped the handrail tightly, his palms slick with sweat.
Under the glow of the monster, its body began to twist and tremble, emitting a series of heart-stopping roars. Lin Bai's heart raced, as if it were about to leap out of his throat. He stared intently at the creature, not daring to relax for even a moment.
The two young people beside him were focused, their grips steady as they aimed at the monster, ready to respond to any sudden changes. The light in their hands grew increasingly intense, while the creature struggled under the radiance, becoming weaker by the second. Its body gradually shrank, letting out one final roar.
One of the young people seized the moment, pulling a metallic net from his waist and throwing it forward with precision, ensnaring the monster. The other young person increased the energy output from his grip. In an instant, the light enveloped the creature completely within the net.
A series of crackling sounds filled the air as the monster's form began to fade away. Finally, silence returned to the ward. Lin Bai let out a long breath and collapsed onto the floor. The two young people wiped the sweat from their foreheads, smiles of victory spreading across their faces.
They quickly secured the monster and then hurried over to Lin Bai, asking about his condition. "Professor Lin, are you alright?" one of them said gently.
Lin Bai shook his head, still shaken by the encounter. The two exchanged glances before introducing themselves: "We are agents from the Special Affairs Bureau, responsible for protecting you in secret. We apologize for this scare; it is our duty. But please rest assured that such incidents will not happen again."
Despite his lingering shock, Lin Bai felt a newfound sense of security in his heart.
