Chapter 159: Charles's Hesitation
For several days, Wolverine and Logan remained untraceable, and Qin Grey was naturally silent. However, on this day, Louise Lane managed to get through to Bai Luo.
"I think I've found that special person you mentioned," Louise's voice sounded slightly excited.
Bai Luo replied, "So... have you conveyed my invitation to him?"
"Yes, but he hasn't given me any response... Is he like Iron Man and Hulk? Are you trying to recruit him into the Avengers?"
Bai Luo didn't answer the question directly. He smiled and shook his head. "That's not your concern. I'm sorry, but it's a confidentiality matter that I must adhere to."
In fact, Bai Luo was just making excuses; Nick Fury hadn't even started to take Mr. Clark Kent seriously. The notion of a confidentiality agreement for recruitment simply didn't exist.
But Louise didn't press further. Perhaps the reporter, who usually loved digging for details, had her mind elsewhere at the moment. She continued, "So... Mr. Bai Luo, do you know where he lives? What his name is... this is incredible."
"You should be able to find that out yourself, but..."
He paused slightly before changing his tone. "If you investigate on your own, it might take a long time."
Immediately, Bai Luo provided Superman's address. At that moment, Superman was still living with his mother Martha in Kansas, which was also where Louise found Superman in the movie.
Upon hearing Bai Luo give an accurate location, Louise couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. "Great! I'm heading out right now."
"Wait a minute, what do you plan to do when you find him?"
Louise paused for a moment, thinking it over before responding, "A newly emerged superhero who can fly and possesses immense strength—this will be my exclusive news."
Bai Luo couldn't help but smirk slightly. At this moment, it was clear that these two had not yet developed into a romantic relationship, especially since they had just met. For Louise Lane, Clark's "superpowers" were far more attractive than the man himself.
However, Bai Luo didn't dwell on it too much and simply said, "I'm sharing this information with you not just to give you an exclusive interview opportunity."
Louise was quick to respond; before Bai Luo could say anything further, she immediately replied, "Don't worry about that. I will ask him if he wants to join S.H.I.E.L.D. and become a true superhero serving the people."
With that, Louise seemed eager to hang up the phone, clearly rushing to find Clark.
Bai Luo felt a bit frustrated but said nothing as Louise ended the call. He thought the chances of Clark joining them were slim at the moment, but he needed to prepare for an information blitz to lay some groundwork for the future.
Meanwhile, there was no further news from Louise.
On Logan's side, things were even more dire. Charles had even sent several mutants with tracking abilities to assist S.H.I.E.L.D. in their search efforts to locate Wolverine or Jean Grey. Bai Luo joined in the search as well, but there was still no progress; it was as if Logan had vanished without a trace.
Just when everyone was at a loss, Bai Luo suddenly received a call from Charles at the Mutant School in New York.
The content of the call was quite simple—Logan had returned to the school.
Moreover, Logan hadn't come back alone; he brought with him an unconscious Jean Grey.
This news made Bai Luo breathe a sigh of relief. After all, Logan hadn't been taken out by the rampaging Black Phoenix.
Without wasting any time, Bai Luo turned around and headed straight for Charles' School for Gifted Youngsters.
Jean Grey was indeed unconscious and had been placed in an underground room at Charles Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters. Logan seemed to be in decent condition; according to him, he had found Jean through a dream and discovered her already in a comatose state when he located her.
Logan appeared quite exhausted. He had been running around for days, and Charles had promptly informed him of the potential dangers posed by Qin Grey.
Logan trusted Charles completely; however, he found it hard to believe that Qin Grey's second personality could bring about disaster and destruction.
Bai Luo stood in the room, silent for a while. This matter was really an internal issue among mutants, and he shouldn't be involved.
Yet he was all too aware of the catastrophic consequences this situation could trigger.
Charles seemed to sense that Bai Luo had something to say. After a brief exchange with Logan, he sent Logan to rest and asked the others in the room to leave. Soon, only Bai Luo, Charles, and the unconscious Qin Grey remained.
Charles sat in his wheelchair, his shiny bald head glinting under the light. As everyone else left, he slightly lifted his head to look at Bai Luo and said, "You... seem to have something you want to tell me?"
Bai Luo glanced at Grey on the bed and replied, "Yes... What do you think her current state is?"
Charles also looked at Qin on the bed, pondering for a moment before answering, "Her psychic power is so formidable that it even frightens me. However, this strength is not constant. In fact, she is in a kind of stasis; sometimes her psychic power is incredibly strong, even surpassing mine, while at other times she reverts to a familiar normal state."
Bai Luo asked, "A Level Five mutant?"
Charles nodded.
Both of their expressions turned serious because they understood that a Level Five mutant only indicated Qin Grey's darker personality.
Only that persona could generate such immense power.
Bai Luo took a deep breath and asked, "So how do you plan to handle this?"
"Charles" shook his head and said, "I can feel that she is struggling with herself; she does not want to be controlled by another force."
The implication of this statement was clearly to continue observing.
"Bai Luo," however, shook his head and said, "She may still have a glimmer of consciousness, but I think... we should kill her."
Upon hearing this, "Charles" couldn't help but lift his head.
But then, he slowly shook his head again. In the span of these few movements, he seemed to age twenty years.
Yet this was precisely a reflection of the intense turmoil within him.
He knew very well that killing Qin at this moment might be the best choice, but... she was his student, his child!
