Chapter 158: Countermeasures
Bai Luo had a vague impression of where Jean Grey was found in the movie; it seemed to be near a lake.
After thinking for a moment, Bai Luo asked, "Professor, do you have any idea where Logan or Jean might be?"
This time, Charles shook his head slightly and replied, "I’m not sure either, but I can sense that she has returned, perhaps in another form and state. She could be a level five mutant with potential and abilities far beyond our imagination."
Charles Xavier paused for a moment before continuing, "If things really come to the worst, and Jean's second personality awakens, the destruction she could cause to our world would far exceed that of the last battle in Water City."
A level five mutant is undoubtedly a nuclear bomb in the world of mutants.
Bai Luo understood better what "Black Phoenix" meant. In the third X-Men movie, Jean Grey awakened as the Black Phoenix, not only killing Cyclops but also Charles himself. Her destructive power surpassed even that of Magneto and Charles.
The most critical aspect was that Jean Grey's temperament would undergo a significant change. The term Black Phoenix did not describe a state but referred to another personality of Jean Grey, one that possessed incredibly powerful mutant abilities.
Of course, in various forms of media and anime, the concept of multiple personalities with different powers was already common.
However, for Charles and Bai Luo, Jean Grey becoming the Black Phoenix was undoubtedly a bad thing.
In the movie, it was Cyclops who searched for the missing Jean Grey, convinced that she was still alive. It was during this search that he encountered Jean transformed into the Black Phoenix and was killed by her. Now, Cyclops was long dead, and the one searching for Jean Grey was Wolverine—Logan.
Bai Luo couldn't help but ask, "Do you have any idea where Logan might be right now?"
Charles shook his head but then nodded slightly with a wry smile. "Somewhere in half of America."
Bai Luo couldn't help but smirk; that range was far too vast. Although Wolverine was somewhat of a celebrity, he had quite a bit of negative information associated with him and was not comparable to heroes like Tony or Bai Luo. Moreover, Logan was well aware of his "social status" and would take precautions when going out. Therefore, finding him through sightings wouldn't be an easy task.
Searching for someone in the vast expanse of America was akin to finding a needle in a haystack.
Still, Bai Luo nodded and said, "In that case, I'll have S.H.I.E.L.D. help investigate and see if they can find anything."
Charles nodded slightly. "I've also sent some teachers out to look for them; hopefully, they will all return safely."
Bai Luo and Charles exchanged glances for a moment before slowly stepping back out.
He stepped outside and found Lorna.
Lorna immediately noticed the unusual expression on Bai Luo's face. "What's wrong? Is something going on?"
Bai Luo shook his head. "It's nothing, but..."
"Did today's date get canceled?" Lorna was quite perceptive.
But Bai Luo shook his head again and smiled. "Whose? It's just that Tony will probably have to wait a bit longer. We need to make a trip to Washington first; I need to report some things to Nick Fury."
Lorna looked at Bai Luo with some suspicion for a moment. "Are you really okay?"
Bai Luo's thoughts were quite simple. Just as he and Charles had previously considered, it would be difficult for Logan to show up on his own. They had no way of doing anything about it, and although Bai Luo remembered that Laser Eye found Jean Grey by a certain lake, that was still just a search area. The water system from Strucker's base dam was extensive, and the last major incident involving mutants had directly destroyed the dam, causing significant repercussions. Where Jean had been swept away at that time was still unknown.
Therefore, rather than anxiously waiting around here, it was better to focus on their own "serious business."
For example...
Bai Luo said, "Don't worry. Have you ever tried flying?"
Lorna furrowed her brow. She snapped her fingers, and a steel plate whizzed in from somewhere, causing a series of gasps from the mutants nearby.
The steel plate came to a steady stop in front of her. Lorna stepped onto it, her hands surrounded by an Aurora-like glow. The plate quickly began to levitate, slowly lifting her entire body into the air.
With this display of skill, Lorna smiled proudly and said, "Is this what flying is? I can fly even higher."
Bai Luo shrugged and laughed. "Alright then, let's hurry to Washington."
With that, he formed a hand seal and another gesture, and his body soared straight up into the sky in the blink of an eye.
Lorna, wobbling on the steel plate, felt her smile freeze at that moment.
With books comes length; without books comes brevity.
Bai Luo's next actions went quite smoothly. They went to Washington to "report" the situation to Nick Fury. Given Nick's personality, he wouldn't provide any help or search efforts for a mutant who had nothing to do with S.H.I.E.L.D., but when Bai Luo mentioned the potential extreme threat and lethality posed by Jean Grey, Nick changed his mind. He didn't care whether an extraneous mutant lived or died; he was more concerned about what large-scale dangerous incidents might occur.
After confirming that Nick Fury would definitely take this matter seriously, Bai Luo and Lorna boarded the S.H.I.E.L.D. aircraft, Quicksilver, which sped from the United States to London.
Nick was already used to Bai Luo's self-serving behavior and chose to turn a blind eye to it.
After a trip to Washington with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Trident, Lorna Dane appeared somewhat sullen. Once they disembarked from the aircraft, she expressed her frustration, saying, "I saw Eric's wanted poster."
Bai Luo suddenly understood.
So this girl had seen her father's wanted poster.
He thought for a moment and said, "Don't worry. With Magneto's abilities, as long as the Avengers and X-Men don't intervene, few can capture him. Besides, he has Mystique by his side, so you don't need to worry about him."
However, Lorna interrupted Bai Luo at that moment, speaking in a detached tone, "I was just wondering why he hasn't been caught yet."
Bai Luo opened his mouth, unsure of how to respond to that statement.
Fortunately, at that moment, Tony's car arrived to pick them up, driven by Tony's soon-to-be-retired hefty former bodyguard.
