Chapter 157
In a Chinese tea restaurant in the metropolis, Louise walked in at a leisurely pace. Dressed in a sharp suit, her gaze briefly scanned the restaurant before settling on a man in the corner.
The man appeared somewhat mysterious, wearing sunglasses and slightly bowing his head as he sipped from a cup of tea placed on the table.
After a moment's thought, she stepped forward and sat down in the empty seat across from him. "Mr. Bai Luo? You’re the one who asked Elena to find me?"
The man sitting across from Louise, looking rather secretive, was indeed Bai Luo.
His attire was clearly chosen to avoid any so-called celebrity effect that might arise from being associated with superheroes. He wasn’t Tony Stark; being surrounded by people in public would be quite overwhelming.
He smiled slightly and said, "Yes—I thought Elena would come along with you."
Louise chuckled lightly. "She would have; after all, she’s known you for quite some time. I just didn’t bring her along. So… Mr. Bai, what do you need from me?"
Bai Luo smiled again and said, "I heard you are following up on an Arctic exploration project?"
Louise was a bit surprised to hear this from Bai Luo but quickly realized that as a member of S.H.I.E.L.D., he would likely have access to such information. She nodded and did not deny it.
Bai Luo also nodded, his smile gradually fading into a calm and serious expression. He spoke slowly, "The world is not at peace; we both know that. The Battle of Water City a year ago was not just an ending. The longer the calm lasts, the more it indicates that a greater storm is approaching. If you encounter someone during this project who is like us—those I refer to as 'us'—I hope you can convey a message for me."
Louise asked, "What is it?"
"Regardless of where you come from, if you love this planet, step forward and find us. We will tell you what you need to do."
Unable to help herself, Louise studied the man before her more closely. After a moment of contemplation, driven by her instincts as a reporter, she asked, "Who will I meet?"
Bai Luo smiled but did not answer the question directly. Instead, he stood up from his seat and said plainly, "Thank you, Louise."
With that, he turned and walked out of the tea restaurant, leaving Louise alone at her table, frowning and lost in thought.
Bai Luo stepped out of the tea restaurant and immediately dialed a number. Before the person on the other end could speak, he smiled and said, "There's a private gathering hosted by Tony tonight. Are you interested in joining me?"
The voice on the other end was Lorna's. She replied directly, "I heard he’s holding it in Europe."
Bai Luo chuckled, "It's currently ten thirty-seven in the morning. I’ll pick you up in New York, then we can fly to London. With S.H.I.E.L.D.'s new aircraft, we should just make it to his six o'clock dinner."
Lorna responded, "Be in front of me within half an hour."
Bai Luo hung up the phone and sprang into action. He found a secluded spot, swung his Talisman, and began to chant the incantation to take off.
This was his new Talisman—Flying Talisman.
Of course, he wasn't yet fully adept at using it; he wobbled during takeoff and even bumped into a clothes rack. Nevertheless, he successfully ascended, soaring over the entire metropolis toward New York. After the battle in Water City, seeing someone fly had become quite ordinary for the people of this world.
Thus, Bai Luo didn’t attract much attention.
For him, meeting Louise was merely a subplot. He certainly hoped that Louise could help him with Clark Kent, but becoming Superman was not something that could be accomplished with just a few words. It required time and reflection or immense external pressure. Perhaps only when Zod General descended would he truly choose to step forward.
However, Zod General's arrival was nowhere in sight. Even if he could persuade Nick Fury, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D., to take precautions early on, he couldn't compel Nick to secure a global defense against higher-level councils. After all, among civilians, superheroes enjoyed immense popularity, but among the world's elite, they represented "chaos," "loss of control," and "disorder." If most superheroes weren't under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s jurisdiction right now, they would have likely taken measures long ago.
Therefore, all Bai Luo could do at this moment was wait. Unless Zod General truly appeared, there was nothing more he could do.
While this was somewhat pessimistic, Bai Luo felt there was little choice.
Of course, for Bai Luo, once his business was concluded, today’s real adventure was just beginning. He hurried over to Charles' School for Gifted Youngsters to find Lorna. Leaning against the wall with an impatient expression, she remarked, "You're five minutes late."
In response, Bai Luo could only offer an awkward smile.
But Lorna continued, "Looks like I’ll have to wait for you a bit longer—the Professor is looking for you."
Bai Luo paused briefly but nodded and walked toward the campus not far away. He had been here many times before and knew it well. Soon enough, he found Charles Xavier waiting for him.
Charles appeared unchanged in Bai Luo's memory; he seemed only slightly older. Looking at Bai Luo, he said, "Twenty years ago and this moment feel like a dream."
Bai Luo nodded, "What's wrong?"
Charles replied, "It's Logan—it's Logan. I feel like he's about to find Jean. I don't know why, but I can no longer sense Logan's location. It's likely that some powerful psychic mutant is interfering with my search. Bringing back someone who should be dead, like Jean, might be a good thing, but... I feel uneasy."
Bai Luo asked, "Logan is going to find Jean?"
Charles nodded and said, "Jean Grey is the most promising mutant I've ever seen. She might even be the only level five mutant I know of."
In truth, Bai Luo, familiar with the storyline, knew that Jean Grey's return would bring disaster and misfortune. Her second personality had awakened, and Phoenix had transformed into the Black Phoenix—a persona of extreme ideology that had even killed Cyclops and Charles himself.
And now, Cyclops had died twenty years ago; it was Logan who was searching for her... So, would she kill Logan?
