Chapter Eighty-Nine: I Might Have Crossed Over
As for Bai Luo, the situation had exceeded his expectations.
At this moment, he had left the hospital that stood in the dark forest, but instead of returning to the woods, he found himself on an old street in an American town.
The world around him was a shade of gray, with something resembling ashes floating in the air.
This was the "outer world" of Silent Ridge that Bai Luo was familiar with.
Turning back, he saw the slightly ajar doors of the hospital and the somewhat dilapidated building itself.
The figure of the Loli Version of Bai Chu had long since vanished, and Steve Rogers, who should have been right behind him, was also nowhere to be found.
The street before Bai Luo was bleak and empty, with ashes drifting down like snowflakes from above.
He glanced back at the hospital but found that Captain America had already disappeared.
Clearly, they had once again been separated by layers of dimensional space.

Bai Luo felt a bit frustrated, but just then, he suddenly heard a series of footsteps approaching.
The sound stood out starkly in the silence of Silent Ridge.

The first person he saw was Bai Chu.
And it was the adult version of Bai Chu. She wore jeans paired with a black jacket, her figure looking much better than Bai Luo remembered. Her long black hair flew behind her as she ran, pursued by a group of humans clad in biohazard suits. They brandished various weapons, shouting incomprehensible words as they chased after Bai Chu.
Bai Chu appeared somewhat panicked, glancing back while hurriedly running forward. It wasn't until she nearly collided with Bai Luo that she realized there was someone standing in her path. In that first moment of realization, she even thought the man blocking her way was part of the group behind her.
However, the person in front of Bai Chu stepped forward, not only refraining from attacking her but instead facing the pursuing group of biohazard-suited humans.
Bai Luo acted decisively. Although he wasn't entirely sure if this scene before him was an illusion created by Alyssa, he felt compelled to intervene.
"Who the hell dares to touch her?"
Bai Chu almost stumbled at his sudden outburst.
Meanwhile, Bai Luo had already made his move. With both hands raised, one hand traced a Talisman in the air while the other pushed forward. In an instant, flames engulfed several of the attackers.
These biohazard-suited individuals were natives of Silent Ridge, trapped in its outer world and followers of its religion. To ordinary people, these ragged figures were terrifying; but to Bai Luo, they were hardly a challenge.
In a flash, he ignited the front line of attackers, causing those behind them to panic and retreat in terror, fleeing in disarray.
Bai Luo turned back to meet Bai Chu's wary gaze.
Bai Chu said, "You..."
She appeared somewhat puzzled, clearly feeling that the person before her looked familiar.
Bai Luo had been missing since he was nine years old, and after twenty years, his appearance had undoubtedly changed. Bai Chu had never seen what Bai Luo looked like as an adult, so it was no surprise that she wore such a confused expression.
Bai Luo stared at her for a moment, then glanced around at the environment.
At present, he had evidently appeared in the surface world of Silent Ridge.
However, theoretically, this should be impossible because only the hospital building remained in Silent Ridge; he could not have walked out of the hospital. If he had walked out of the hospital, it would mean he had left the current "Silent Ridge."
So… was he currently in an illusion created by Alyssa, or had he crossed over?
The existence of the child version of Bai Chu earlier was clearly meant to lead him here, drawing him into the surface world of Silent Ridge.
Bai Luo focused on the Bai Chu right in front of him, who seemed incredibly real. After contemplating for a moment, he tentatively asked, "Are you real?"
Bai Chu looked a bit dazed but remained cautious, taking half a step back. "Who are you? Thank you for helping me just now."
Bai Luo swallowed slightly. Although he was a traveler from another world, he felt that the possibility of having crossed time and space again was quite low. However, everything he encountered now must be related to Alyssa—what did Alyssa want?

"I'm looking for my brother. He has been missing for many years. I sensed his presence, so…" This Bai Chu seemed very real, much more so than the Loli version of Bai Chu that Bai Luo had seen before. She continued, "You are…"

The world, which should have remained eternally gray and lifeless, suddenly brightened.
It was a blinding white light, as if countless giant searchlights had been lit in the sky, their brilliant glow dazzling and intense. Bai Luo instinctively looked up and saw what appeared to be a massive shadow at the end of the bright light.

In that moment, Bai Luo recalled the records from the S.H.I.E.L.D. case files—something resembling a flying ship had descended and landed on Silent Ridge.
And it was after that event that Silent Ridge became a pit; this terrifying multiverse completely vanished from Earth, leaving behind only a solitary, horrific hospital.
The scene was terrifyingly real, so much so that even Bai Luo felt the oppressive fear emanating from above. At the same time, in every corner of Silent Ridge, piercing wails began to echo one after another. The pale ashes no longer fell from the sky; instead, the ground started to become mottled, revealing a world that seemed to be ablaze.
Bai Luo understood that this was the state of transition between the inner and outer worlds of Silent Ridge. However, this time, the transition did not complete; it seemed to be stuck, halting midway as the properties of both worlds coexisted.
Bai Chu, facing Bai Luo, was unsure of what was happening but sensed that it was definitely abnormal. She took a deep breath and said, "I appreciate your help, but I need to find my brother. I must locate him. You... this place is not safe; you are not a bad person, but it's best if you leave here quickly."
