Chapter Sixty-Nine: Alliance
Outside a military base in New York City.
Bai Luo stepped into a dimly lit hospital room, where only one other person sat besides him.
Emil Blonsky.
He was slightly shorter in stature, with a gaze that revealed an undeniable ferocity. He was a special forces soldier under General Ross, having faced off against the Hulk multiple times. General Ross had even subjected him to certain modifications in hopes of countering the Hulk, but the result was… he was sent flying by a single blow from the Hulk, suffering multiple compound fractures and barely resembling a human. Yet, his modifications had indeed served their purpose; otherwise, given such horrific injuries, he would have had no chance of survival, let alone sitting here in relative stability.
Emil Blonsky's thoughts were in stark contrast to those of Banner. While Banner viewed becoming the Hulk as an unacceptable and dreadful process, desperately seeking to rid himself of this mutation, Emil Blonsky saw it as an unparalleled gift and sought with all his might to become a being like the Hulk.
In the end, he succeeded. He became Abomination, the Hulk's arch-nemesis.
Unlike the Hulk, Abomination retained all of Emil Blonsky's intelligence, memories, and thoughts. However, this came at a cost; Emil Blonsky rarely reverted to his human form.
At this moment, Emil Blonsky was clearly unaware that he was about to experience the greatest turning point in his life, one that would grant him the power he had always desired. He sat on the hospital bed, staring at his own body in a daze until he heard footsteps and turned to see Bai Luo entering.
He took a slight breath, his voice somewhat muffled: "I recognize you—today on the streets of New York, you were with the Hulk, Captain America, and that woman in yellow—I heard from others what happened after I was injured by the Hulk."
"You all… possess extraordinary powers."
"Power? Are you referring to this?" Bai Luo chuckled. He didn't approach Emil Blonsky immediately but walked over to a metal cabinet on the other side of the room. He gently tapped it as if dusting it off, but that seemingly casual action caused the half-height metal cabinet to collapse instantly, shattering into pieces on the floor. "Or perhaps this?"
Bai Luo's smile remained unchanged as he approached Emil Blonsky's hospital bed after effortlessly destroying the cabinet. By then, Emil had already raised another hand. With a crisp snap of his fingers, a Yellow Paper Talisman appeared in his palm, glowing brightly before igniting into flames. As Bai Luo flicked his wrist, the fireball extinguished and vanished without a trace.
Emil Blonsky's gaze was firmly locked onto Bai Luo.
At that moment, Bai Luo presented him with two distinctly different forms of power. The first was a physical strength akin to Hulk's, while the second was an energy-based power that, in Emil Blonsky's eyes, resembled magic.
Emil Blonsky became Abomination due to his insatiable thirst for power; he desired the kind of strength that Hulk possessed. Of course, beyond that, there were also thoughts of conquering the world, but all of this stemmed from his extreme craving for true power.
It was this desire that drove him to eagerly embrace becoming a monster, for in his view, only real power was reliable. What form he took or whether he appeared different from others was utterly unimportant.
In the span of those few sentences, Bai Luo had already positioned himself in front of Emil Blonsky. He slightly bent down to bring their faces to the same level and asked, "Is it this kind?"
In that instant, everything Emil Blonsky saw suddenly changed.
The hospital room, Bai Luo, even the surrounding sounds and the smell of disinfectant vanished in an instant. He found himself standing by a strange grove of dead trees next to a chipped ancient well. It was dusk; the light was blood-red. The wind rustled through the trees, making leaves whisper like wandering ghosts—terrifying to the extreme. But just as quickly as this scene appeared, it vanished again. Soon, everything before Emil Blonsky returned to normal. At that moment, his gaze toward Bai Luo held an indescribable feeling as he rasped, "What exactly are you..."
"There are many kinds of power in this world. I possess many of them and may acquire even more diverse abilities and strengths in the future. However, there is one kind of power that I do not have."
Emil Blonsky opened his mouth as if wanting to say something but fell silent after a moment's thought, choosing instead to let Bai Luo finish—he wasn't a fool; Bai Luo had come here to speak with him at length and showcase these astonishing abilities for a reason.
Bai Luo smiled and said, "This kind of power is called 'Alliance.' A person cannot ally with themselves; even the strongest individual has limitations. But if two people, three people... or even more unite, they can become truly powerful."
Emil Blonsky genuinely did not expect Bai Luo to say such things to him. He found it hard to believe and asked incredulously, "You want to ally with me?"
Bai Luo did not answer the question directly but continued, "I understand what you crave: power and authority. This is a desire every man has. But I think you've seen today that there is more in this world than just Hulk and me. Even if you become stronger than Hulk, you still won't be able to achieve much—at most, you'll go from being an unnoticed flea to a big flea. But no matter how large a flea grows or how high it jumps, it will always be crushed."
Bai Luo's words contained both truth and deception.
However, Emil Blonsky remained silent for a moment before saying, "What you mean is..."
"I am indeed looking for allies, but I want to find a fool. You can continue with your plan, and I can assure you that you will possess at least the same strength as the current Hulk. However, I don't want you running wild after gaining that power. The premise of an alliance is that everyone involved has enough sense to know how to use their unique abilities."
Emil Blonsky said, "Sounds more like I'm working for you."
Bai Luo merely smiled. He hadn't been direct, but he had never hidden this point in his previous words. There was a fundamental difference between thinking it and saying it outright.
Emil Blonsky stared at him for a moment longer and asked, "What if I don't do as you say?"
Bai Luo straightened up and replied, "I will kill you—after you gain power comparable to Hulk's. You can choose not to believe that I can do this or choose to believe it. In a sense, I'm trying to prevent you from dying due to foolishness. But just as you think, the so-called 'alliance' I want to establish between us is not absolutely equal. You will work for me under certain constraints, but likewise, I will provide help or even more power to you.
"Regardless, the choice is yours. If you decide to form my 'alliance,' just find someone to give me your phone number—trust me, with just one number, no matter where you are in this world or whether there's signal, I can reach you."
That was Bai Luo's final word with the man. After that, he turned and walked out of the room step by step, leaving Emil Blonsky silently watching Bai Luo's retreating figure, speechless.
