Chapter Sixty-Two: I Smell Breaking News
Bai Luo's lips twitched as he said, "Why have I turned into 'Luo Luo' again? What kind of nickname is that? And is it really necessary for you to always add your two cents?"
Mizumura Memeko huffed, "You promised to help me regain my memories."
This time, it was Sadako who picked up on Mizumura Memeko's words, her voice as cold as ever. "Regaining memories isn't something that happens overnight. Just wait."
Sadako had a nearly instinctive authority over Mizumura Memeko. After hearing those words, the previously lively Mizumura Memeko let out a defeated "Oh" and fell silent.
But Bai Luo understood that Sadako was actually looking out for Mizumura Memeko.
Sadako had regained her memories, but they only brought her pain. She finally realized why Bai Luo had been reluctant for them to recover their memories; the reason they had become Vengeful Spirits was due to a painful past they could not bear to recall. For them, losing their memories might actually be a blessing.
Calming the turmoil within himself, Bai Luo chose not to delve deeper into that topic. Instead, he redirected his attention to Lorna and Natasha in the room, as they were the ones causing him the most trouble.
At this moment, Lorna was glaring at Bai Luo with fiery eyes.
As for Natasha, after a moment of confusion, she quickly regained her composure. In some ways, although Lorna possessed both queenly and delicate traits, she was still too young compared to Natasha.
Natasha didn’t take Bai Luo’s ramblings to heart. She merely took a slight breath and said, "I think Nick Fury will need a written report from you—Magneto is now a world-class supervillain. Capturing him could prevent many innocent deaths."
Bai Luo replied, "Don't worry about that. Back in Kansas City, I stopped one of his terrorist operations."
Magneto wasn't exactly a good person, but he wasn't entirely evil either. Given his considerable power, if Bai Luo were to go all out against him, it would be counterproductive; it would be better to leave handling him to someone else.
So he simply chuckled and nodded with an expression that said whatever you say goes. Finally, he added, "We should grab a meal together sometime!"
At this point, Natasha had already reached the door. She glanced back at Lorna in the room and said, "You might want to deal with your little problem first."
Lorna shot back, "You're the problem."
Natasha ignored Lorna's retort and opened the standard room door. However… standing outside was another person.
It was also a woman, possessing beauty that rivaled anyone in the room. The woman held a notebook and was raising her hand as if to knock on the door when she was taken by surprise as it swung open to reveal a spirited girl with short burgundy hair.
Natasha and Lorna undoubtedly did not recognize the person, but Bai Luo did. This person was none other than Elena Landon, a reporter from Planet Daily.
The moment Bai Luo saw her, his expression was nothing short of spectacular.
Natasha and Lorna were even more confused; the two girls almost simultaneously turned to look at Bai Luo, their eyes conveying a remarkably unified question—who is this?
As for our sister Elena, she was also bewildered at first. However, as a reporter—someone who had always aspired to be one and who lacked the protagonist aura of the Marvel Universe—her mind was quite active, and her thought process was unique.
In just two seconds, her expression changed multiple times: from surprise to astonishment, then to contemplation, and finally to a moment of realization. It was a textbook example of emotional transformation.
Then, this reporter from Planet Daily scanned the three people in the room once more before abruptly turning on her heel and leaving.
At that moment, Bai Luo thought about what would be on the front page of Planet Daily tomorrow—sensational! Twenty years ago, he saved Kansas City; a month ago, he saved Tony Stark at the Talismancer Hotel with two beautiful women in a three-way!
Elena's reaction was quick, and her mind was active, but she overlooked one thing: while Natasha might not have the keen instincts of a reporter, she was a super spy. Although she was initially stunned upon seeing Elena, when she realized that this stunning girl was sneaking away, her instincts kicked in, and she took off after her.
Elena had decent physical fitness; she had a well-proportioned figure. However, compared to Natasha, her physical abilities were lacking.
Bai Luo did not see the entire process from his position in the room, but he heard the sounds.
After a loud thud followed by Elena's startled scream, the sound of running stopped abruptly, followed by a series of curses from Elena.
Then… Natasha dragged Elena back into the room.
The agent in tight leather didn't seem out of breath at all as she tossed Elena onto the floor in front of Bai Luo and slammed the door shut behind her. "Who are you?" she demanded.
"She's a stalker," Bai Luo interjected without giving the sharp-tongued reporter a chance to speak. "She has been following me for nearly a month now, trying to expose my connection with S.H.I.E.L.D."
Natasha frowned, her unfriendly gaze landing directly on Elena.
Elena reacted quickly; unable to bear Bai Luo's scrutiny any longer, she pulled out an identification card from her chest—yes, from her chest. Bai Luo was momentarily stunned by how she reached into her clothing—it was quite an unexpected sight.
Elena paid no attention to Bai Luo as she raised the document in her hand. "S.H.I.E.L.D., right? The Department of Homeland Strategic Defense, Attack, and Logistics Support? I have permission; as long as I report my interview content first, they allow me to conduct a humane interview with Mr. Bai Luo."
"Bai Luo": "How could you possibly have something like this?"
"Natasha" took the proof from her hand and quickly realized that it was indeed real. She frowned slightly and asked, "Who gave this to you?"
"Phil Coulson. He claims to be an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D."
"Bai Luo" immediately understood, suspecting that "Coulson" had devised a roundabout strategy to save the day, intending for his old acquaintance, the beautiful woman, to extract information from him. After all, everyone is willing to share something with an old friend from many years ago.
Of course, "Bai Luo" was clearly an unexpected variable.
"Bai Luo" smiled and said, "Well, you've wasted your effort. Even if you manage to get something out of me, 'Coulson' won't let you publish it. He just wants to use you to pry information from me."
