Chapter Fifty-One: I'm Going to Show Off
The Chatty Sniper seemed intent on letting Tony Stark hear his conversation with Bai Luo, and he also wanted Bai Luo to hear Tony's voice, so he placed the two phones side by side.
This guy had definitely realized that Bai Luo was here for Tony.
Thus, Bai Luo was not shy about his intentions. He chuckled, "Who I am doesn't matter; what I want to do is what counts—Tony Stark, the unfortunate soul dragged into a family feud by his uncle, is now a prominent figure. Although no one cares about his life or death, he can't really die."
Upon hearing this, Tony could no longer hold back and said, "While I appreciate your attempt to save my life, could you please watch your words?"
Before Bai Luo could respond, the Chatty Sniper laughed and then slightly restrained his laughter. "I never intended to kill Mr. Stark. His life and death are in his own hands."
Tony replied, "What do you mean by 'in my own hands'? Right now, I’m stuck in a glass phone booth with two groups of people ready to fight each other!"
"No, you still don't understand. I'm not calling you to ask you to spare anyone." Bai Luo slowly stood up from his seat. He glanced at the imaging display on the plane, which showed the figure of the Phone Booth Killer. "I just found it amusing that someone was hiding in the corner with a sniper rifle, threatening someone on the phone not to hang up, so I called to see what kind of person you are and to tell you one thing."
The chatty sniper spoke in a low voice, "What do you want?"
"I just want to let you know that I'm here."
Bai Luo gestured for Natasha to open the hatch.
After hesitating for a moment, Natasha opened the hatch of the aircraft.
Meanwhile, Bai Luo had already stepped forward and began walking outside.
His voice continued, sounding eerily similar to that of the Phone Booth Killer, but now it carried an imposing sharpness: "Actually, I want to thank you for creating such a chaotic situation for me because now many people have forgotten who I am. Those who remember have been trying to figure out what kind of person I am and what abilities I possess. Moreover, many who never knew who I was should also come to understand what kind of person I am."
Standing behind Bai Luo, Natasha rose and watched his silhouette. She wanted to say something but ultimately remained silent, merely observing as Bai Luo walked toward the outside of the aircraft.
With a flick of his hand, a Yellow Paper Talisman appeared in Bai Luo's grasp without him noticing when it had materialized. Without looking at it, he tossed it into the air, and it transformed into a bright light that shot into the clear blue sky.
Bai Luo's voice continued, "So, I plan to make a grand entrance—of course, I saw you first. I could shoot you from behind or blow you up along with the ground beneath your feet, but you're quite an interesting person. It wouldn't be fun to just kill you like that.
"So, I'm calling first to say hello and avoid any mishaps in between."
Tony replied, "Hey, no matter who you are or whether you're serious or just talking big—are you interested in working for Howard Stark?"
The sniper said, "Are you really so sure that after all this nonsense, I won't kill Tony but will instead obediently do as you say?"
Bai Luo smiled and said, "Of course I'm sure, because you're not really a killer. You usually target someone just to satisfy your boring interests, and your goal isn't murder; killing is merely one of the means to achieve your ends."
This time, the sniper didn't respond to Bai Luo's words; instead, his tone suddenly shifted to shock: "I see you!"
The guy stood up from behind a sand dune and gazed in Bai Luo's direction.
He indeed saw Bai Luo. At that moment, dense clouds began to gather in the clear desert sky above Bai Luo's head, blocking out the sun and following his steps closer and closer to Tony Stark's location.
The scene was spectacular—the thick clouds in the sky contrasted sharply with the figures on the ground, making it impossible not to notice.
The Chatty Sniper looked at the stormy change unfolding before him, unable to hide his astonishment: "You're a mutant?"
"No, no, no," Bai Luo smiled again and dramatically declared, "I'm a Talismancer."
At that moment, Bai Luo hung up the phone.
Simultaneously, Mizumura Memeko shouted in Bai Luo's mind, breaking the atmosphere: "Hey, am I really just going to make a phone call?"
Just then, Natasha burst out of the aircraft and heard Bai Luo's last words. Immediately after, she saw Bai Luo throw out a Yellow Paper Talisman. The moment it was released, it transformed into a bright streak of fire that astonishingly pierced through the cloud-covered desert, bypassing the position of the Chatty Sniper and striking the side of the dune where Tony was located—the convoy of the Ten Rings Organization.
In an instant, an explosion erupted there that could be seen even from nearly a kilometer away.
The glass of the phone booth where Tony stood shattered instantly; he was knocked to the ground. Military helicopters in the air immediately turned to locate this sudden strike while both the Ten Rings Organization and military forces opened fire on each other.
Meanwhile, under Natasha's shocked gaze, Bai Luo had already "taken off." Although his flying posture was somewhat awkward, he shot up into the heavy clouds in an instant, tracing an arc through the air like a cannonball as he crossed nearly a kilometer to land in the center of the battlefield.
In the swirling dust of battle, he almost instantly drew fire from both sides. However, the bullets that struck his body could not shake him in the slightest.
On the other side, the sniper in the phone booth, having long abandoned his concealment, raised his weapon—not to attack, but to get a clearer view of that person.
To his surprise, the being who called himself the Talismancer turned out to be an Easterner. At that moment, his presence was astonishing; dark clouds in the sky seemed to gather around him as he moved. One hand was entwined with flickering arcs of electricity, while the other held a piece of yellow paper inscribed with intricate and unfamiliar runes. With a casual flick, that paper transformed into a bright lightning ball that could obliterate a Ten Rings Off-Road Vehicle on impact.
At this point, the Chatty Sniper's plans had been completely disrupted by Bai Luo. Yet instead of anger, he smiled as he observed the battlefield and the Easterner who appeared like a deity descending from above. He even chuckled, "Interesting, interesting. Not a mutant... but rather... a mysterious Eastern sorcerer?"
As Bai Luo had indicated, killing was merely a means to achieve his goals. With the situation on the field shifting dramatically, he found himself intrigued by both Tony and Bai Luo, prompting him to alter his plans and refrain from making a move today.
And Bai Luo... he clearly anticipated this outcome.
Bai Luo understood well that this sniper was neither a good person nor a bad one; keeping him alive was far better than letting him die.
