Chapter 45: Is He a Pervert?
The room was unusually quiet. Bai Luo sat with a few mutant children, all under twenty, and the atmosphere felt oddly heavy. The only bed was occupied by the unconscious Lorna, while Bai Luo, who claimed to be Lorna's fiancé, sat casually at her bedside.
Bai Luo was feeling somewhat down.
He speculated that Bai Chu might not be dead; perhaps she had fallen into some terrible situation or had coincidentally left Earth.
After all, this was a world where anything could happen, and Bai Chu had no real enemies or rivals. Even Bai Luo hadn't had the chance to establish any formidable foes before falling into a twenty-year coma. The likelihood of Bai Chu being caught in some uncontrollable chaos was far greater than the possibility of being taken out by an enemy.
But Bai Luo still needed to confirm the situation with someone who might know the details.
Charles, S.H.I.E.L.D... it didn't matter who.
Just as Bai Chu would search everywhere for him after his disappearance, Bai Luo would do everything he could to find that sister of his.
Bai Chu knew nothing about this unpredictable world, and Bai Luo could imagine her anxiety and helplessness during her search for him back then.
Bai Luo certainly hadn't anticipated that he would remain in a coma for twenty years. According to his original plan, he intended to leverage the power of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Stark Industries to establish a solid foothold in this world through financial means. He didn't seek to become a presence like Wayne Group or Stark Industries; he merely wanted to hold dual identities and influence.
This way, no matter what he wanted to do in the future, he would at least have a real foundation.
After that, he planned to bring Bai Chu over. While Charles's school was good, Bai Luo didn't want to just leave his sister behind.
But now... the situation had clearly changed.
Bai Luo sighed inwardly; this matter required careful consideration. According to Logan, Bai Chu had been missing for at least seven or eight years. Even if he was anxious now, it wasn't something that could be resolved in an instant.
Logan's side was still busy with their affairs, and at this moment, Bai Luo found himself feeling somewhat idle.
Just then, a soft sound came from the bed behind him, and Lorna Dane seemed to be stirring awake.
Bai Luo turned his head at the sound and caught sight of the beautiful Polaris Sister.
Her complexion was fair, and her dark green hair contrasted sharply with her bright red lips.
Bai Luo stared at her for a moment in silence, then reached out and pinched her cheek.
To be honest, it was quite elastic, and the sensation was nice.
Especially as Bai Luo did this, Lorna's brows furrowed slightly, making her look even more attractive.
Bai Luo then wore a childlike expression; after thinking for a moment, he decided to use both hands to tug at Lorna's face playfully.
Meanwhile, Rascal caught sight of this scene and hesitated before glancing at the Iceman beside him. In a low voice, he asked, "Is he a pervert?"
Sean Ashmore was staring intently at Bai Luo and Lorna, swallowing hard as he said, "It must feel pretty good."
“Hmm?!” Rascal exclaimed.
“Yes, Mr. Bai is definitely a lecher, but if he really is Lorna's fiancé…” Sean Ashmore began.
Just as Rascal was about to say something, a sudden commotion erupted near Bai Luo. A metallic ashtray on the counter beside him shot up into the air and came crashing down towards his head.
Bai Luo's reaction was instantaneous; he raised his hand and caught the object effortlessly without even lifting his gaze.
Looking down at Lorna, he wore a half-smile and asked, “Awake now?”
Lorna's brows twitched slightly before she finally opened her eyes, glaring at Bai Luo with fury.
In her hands, a swirling emerald light danced, causing all the metal objects in the room to tremble as if summoned, emitting a low hum. Some items even lifted off the ground, pointing directly at Bai Luo.
“Who are you?” Lorna demanded, her voice laced with anger.
At that moment, Rascal couldn't just stand by any longer. After all, Bai Luo had saved them and even helped capture Strucker. If Lorna truly engaged him in a fight…
Without hesitation, Anna Marie stepped forward. “Lorna—he's not our enemy. He just helped us fend off Strucker's men.”
Lorna's gaze flicked over to Rascal before shifting back to Bai Luo.
Bai Luo had already taken a slight step back, smiling at her as he said, "Bai Luo, this should be our first meeting, but you might have heard of me."
"Bai Luo," Lorna repeated the name thoughtfully. "I've heard of you."
Bai Luo smiled. "Yes, yes, yes."
"Magneto mentioned you to me; you're the one who helped him find me." Lorna referred to her father by name.
At this point, Bai Luo felt a bit uneasy.
Sure enough, Lorna's next words were, "You're just like Magneto; you're both jerks."
The girl sat up straight, her gaze sharp as she looked at Bai Luo.
Bai Luo's smile froze on his face.
Iceman Sean Ashmore seemed completely oblivious to the awkwardness of the situation. As Rascal quietly stepped back, he took a step forward with interest and asked, "Lorna, does he have an engagement with you—are you his fiancée?"
"No."
Lorna spat out those words through gritted teeth.
Bai Luo wasn't angry; he chuckled and said, "It's fine, it's fine. We can take our time to get to know each other."
At that moment, the voice of Mizumura Memeko echoed painfully in his mind: "Bai Luo, were you really thinking that before this big sister wakes up, she would flutter into your arms like a dove?"
Bai Luo hadn't thought that way at all. He had seen a lot, but his thoughts were quite realistic. Who was Polaris Sister? If he saved her once, it wouldn't mean that Lorna would come running to him with open arms; that was nonsense.
However, Bai Luo's reckless attitude also infuriated Lorna. The dark green light swirling around her fingers never faded.
Just then, Logan pushed the door open and walked in. His expression was not pleasant as he nodded slightly at Bai Luo, signaling him to go ahead, before turning to sit in the corner.
Bai Luo stood up. What he wanted to ask was naturally about Bai Chu's situation, but Strucker probably didn't know much either; otherwise, when Bai Luo had called him on Ghost Call earlier, he would have used it to threaten him.
As Bai Luo was about to leave the room, he paused and glanced back at Lorna. "I'm going to interrogate someone. Do you want to join?"
Lorna Dane stared at him for a moment and surprisingly nodded in agreement.
