Chapter Seven: The Bald Man
This town was no longer a place to stay. The fast-food restaurant murder case involving Bai Luo and Bai Chu had escalated, and almost everyone in town knew the two siblings. It was only a matter of time before someone came looking for them.
Thus, they began preparing overnight, packing various items.
At this moment, having a resourceful sister proved to be quite beneficial.
There was hardly anything that required Bai Luo's attention; he simply stayed in his room, contemplating how to spend his remaining two hundred and eighty points.
After much deliberation, he finally focused on two items.
The first was the Item Storage Talisman, worth one hundred points, and the second was the Power Talisman crafting method, priced at one hundred and eighty points.
The latter was a definite choice; no matter how many points he had, nothing was as reliable and stable as drawing talismans himself. That would ensure a steady output in the long run.
As for the Item Storage Talisman… it was undoubtedly useful but not necessarily something he could use right now.
Bai Luo thought long and hard but couldn't identify anything essential he needed to carry. He was going to meet Magneto, not venturing into the wilderness. If he spent one hundred points on something else, there were plenty of options available.
Just considering items worth one hundred points left Bai Luo feeling overwhelmed—Low-Level Demon Summoning Talisman, Overlooking Eye Talisman, Barrier Rune…
Even if he decided to split that one hundred points up, there were many ways to spend it, such as crafting materials for talismans or unique paper and pens—these items were considered rare over in the United States. Special Yellow Grass Paper, pens made from Old Goat Beard…
At this time, the influence of Chinese culture wasn't as significant.
So, Bai Luo opted to exchange for a bunch of low-quality talisman paper and inferior Talisman Pens. There was no choice; with the limited points he had, even if he wanted to trade for something high-end, it was beyond his reach. Settling for less still left him with a solid fifty points remaining.
Bai Luo pondered for a moment before exchanging twenty points for a basic Palm Thunder Talisman and ten points for the Wrapping Thunder Trick Talisman.
With twenty points remaining, he could adapt to any situation.
Creating talismans was Bai Luo's greatest secret. He wasn't a true mutant, and if the miraculous nature of his talisman-making were to be exposed in the current era of America, he would instantly become a target for everyone.
Therefore, Bai Luo planned to disguise himself as a mutant, meet with Magneto, and then seek out Howard Stark—who, theoretically, should still be alive at this time. Stark was a significant financial backer and could provide... cough cough.
Bai Luo shook off his wandering thoughts. Mystique had claimed that Magneto was in Kansas City when she parted ways with him, and she had been pursued by humans and Sentinel Robots along the way. Thus, the events that unfolded in the fast-food restaurant might not immediately attract government attention but could very well alert the Sentinel Robots.
He needed to be prepared for battle.
Locking his room door, he began attempting to draw talismans for the first time. Half an hour passed as he progressed from beginner to successfully completing his first drawing—a Power Talisman.
This was something that typically cost ten points to obtain.
Just then, Bai Chu knocked on his door and said, "It's time to go."
Bai Luo gathered his things, stuffing all the Old White Rabbit Milk Candy into his pocket and securely stowing away the talisman paper and pen before standing up. However, just as he was about to push open the door and step outside, he suddenly heard a voice.
"Bai Luo."
Feeling a sense of foreboding, he turned around. Through the pale moonlight streaming in from the window, he saw that someone had appeared in his room without him noticing.
It was a bald man.
His head shone brightly in the moonlight like a light bulb.
This unexpected visitor was an elderly man with an exaggerated bald head but possessed wise eyes.
Bai Luo immediately recognized who it was and said, "Charles Xavier?"
As soon as Bai Luo's words fell, he heard a voice—the prompt from the System.
[Detected mental dimension intrusion; System has intercepted it.]
[Interception successful.]
Bai Luo couldn't help but smirk; he hadn't expected the System to have such a mysterious function.
"Have we met before?" the Professor asked, unable to see through Bai Luo's thoughts. "You are a peculiar Easterners; I can't seem to penetrate your mind."
"Perhaps it's because I'm a Young Pioneer," Bai Luo quipped about his age, then continued, "We indeed haven't met before, but your reputation is quite loud, so... it's not surprising that I recognized you the moment I saw you."
Charles nodded thoughtfully and said, "Young Pioneer... I've heard of that. It's some sort of title for excellent children from the mysterious East, right?"
Bai Luo felt a bit annoyed and replied, "Then you must also know about the Chaoyang Masses."
To Bai Luo's surprise, Charles understood the reference and laughed, "I have indeed heard of it. The mysterious East is a wondrous land."
However, Charles then shifted the topic slightly, saying, "The life form beside you is also quite peculiar; is she a mutant as well?"
"You mean the Loli next to me?" Bai Luo wasn't surprised that Charles could sense the presence of a ghost. After all, ghosts have consciousness and mental activity, which Charles would certainly be able to perceive. "She can't even be considered a living person."
Charles nodded and said, "Recently, many things have emerged that we cannot comprehend—strange and bizarre. This might be an even worse disaster than the emergence of mutants."
Bai Luo chuckled to himself, wondering if this chaotic situation was related to his own crossing over.
But instead of dwelling on that matter, he said, "The Professor coming to me must mean you know I'm going to give my sister to you."
"I know, she is a very gifted mutant," Charles said, his smile radiating a certain warmth. "But I came to see you. I hope you can come to my school so I can meet you in person."
"Why?" Bai Luo asked.
"Because you are unique, both mentally and in terms of abilities—you are not a mutant, are you?"
Bai Luoxin thought, could this guy have figured out that she was a transcendent being with a halo?
However, Bai Luo soon realized she was mistaken in her assumptions.
"You possess immense potential, but you shouldn't meet Eric. He is a racial extremist who might lead you down an entirely different path."
