Chapter Six: The Amnesiac Memeko
There were no flashing lights, terrifying shrieks, or gushing blood; under the calm illumination stood a pale-faced Loli before Bai Luomian.
This Loli was actually quite beautiful, with long black hair, though her complexion was excessively pale, and her gaze appeared somewhat vacant and bewildered.
Under the influence of Bai Chu's abilities, she had to maintain this state visible to normal people.
Bai Luo exhaled and asked, "What is your name?"
"Mizumura Memeko."
The Loli responded quickly, appearing slightly dazed. She then flashed Bai Luo a grin that she thought was fierce but was actually rather silly: "I want to strangle you!"
Mizumura Memeko was indeed the Vengeful Spirit from the movie Ghost Call, a patient suffering from a proxy illness who died from asthma.
Bai Luo was not surprised. He said, "So… do you know why you are here?"
"Why should I tell you?"
Bai Luo glanced at her and asked, "Then why do you want to attack me?"
"I just want to kill someone."
"Do you remember how you died? Um… do you know how you ended up like this?"
Memeko fell silent for a moment and replied, "Why should I tell you?"
However, Bai Luo fell into deep thought. He pinched his chin and stared at the unwilling Loli for a while before asking a few more questions. He finally confirmed that Mizumura Memeko in front of him must be suffering from amnesia.
She did not remember how she died or how she ended up here. Aside from her name, she only had memories from the last seventeen years. Even her signature proxy illness, which had plagued her throughout her life, had vanished along with her memory. Killing was merely driven by some instinctual urge.
After pondering for a moment, Bai Luo smiled and said, "Hey, girl, why don't you come with me?"
Mizumura Memeko responded bluntly, "In your dreams."
Bai Luo said, "You see, even though my appearance might upset you, it's clear that you've lost your memory. Besides killing, you don't really have anything else you can do. And as for killing... regardless of the morality of it, even someone as useless as me can easily subdue you. How long do you think a 'human' like you can survive in this world if you continue down this path?"
Mizumura Memeko replied, "I..."
The Loli hesitated for a moment before lowering her head slightly and whispering, "I haven't lost my memory."
Bai Luo stroked his chin, gazing at the bewildered girl with a wicked glint in his eyes, and said, "Don't you want to regain the memories you've lost?"
This statement stirred something within the Loli. She lifted her head slightly; although her memories were unfortunate, for someone who had lost their memory, nothing was more important than knowing who they were, where their loved ones were, and what they had experienced—even if the answers ultimately led to sadness and pain. In the pursuit of their memories, they would undoubtedly be the most dedicated seekers.
Bai Luo took a breath and asked, "Do you really enjoy killing? Do you relish the splatter of blood and the sound of terrified screams?"
If Bai Luo's words were directed at a vengeful spirit like Mizumura Memeko with full memories, they would be meaningless. However, at this moment, Mizumura Memeko was in a state of amnesia; although she still retained some instinct for killing, she was essentially just a normal child.
Bai Luo's series of questions finally caused the hesitant Memeko to waver. She raised her head slightly; her previously fierce gaze now held a hint of confusion and wariness. After a long silence, she said, "But... I just wanted to kill you."
Bai Luo smiled and asked, "So did you kill me?"
Memeko stammered, "Well... but..."
Bai Luo thought for a moment and pulled out a Yellow Paper Talisman from his pocket. "This is a two-way contract talisman that can bind you and me together. If you're willing to follow me and become friends, we can use this talisman to bind us in a certain sense. That way, you won't have to worry about me tricking you, and I won't have to worry about you killing me again."
Bai Luo appeared sincere, but at this point, everyone probably realized that this rascal was revealing his claws. This talisman had been prepared long ago; he had exchanged twenty points for this low-level contract talisman.
However, its effects were real—it could bind two souls together and create an equal symbiotic relationship to some extent.
Although Bai Luo was trying to deceive the girl, he wasn't shameless enough to turn her into his slave. Moreover, if Memeko truly followed him, it might not be such a bad thing for her.
This wasn't an ordinary world of Ghost Call; it was the Marvel universe where ghosts weren't invincible—especially not an amnesiac Loli Vengeful Spirit.
After hesitating for quite some time, Mizumura Memeko ultimately agreed and completed the contract talisman with Bai Luo. At that moment of completion, Bai Luo distinctly felt the connection between himself and this Loli ghost; he even developed an inexplicable sense of closeness towards her—like that of family.
Memeko also managed to show a faint smile.
From then on, Bai Luo was accompanied by a chilling breeze every day.
As he looked at the sweet smile on Memeko's pale face, he suddenly thought—did this count as forcibly abducting a child bride? Goodness... or was it a ghost marriage?
But he quickly dismissed the thought; after all, he was just a child.
When Bai Luo stepped out after resolving the matter with Memeko, Mystique had basically finished explaining the situation regarding mutants to Bai Chu.
Bai Chu had also accepted it well; her capacity for acceptance was quite strong. After all, not every sister could manage to hold a family together after their mother died in childbirth and their father abandoned them.
She even managed to make a joke: "Hey little brother, your big sister is going to be one of the superheroes now. From now on, I’ve got your back."
Bai Luo watched and smiled faintly. He understood that the reason his sister had held on all this time without showing any negative emotions was that she still had him as a brother. Before Bai Luo regained all his memories, he was no different from an ordinary child.
And it was Bai Chu who made Bai Luo, who had crossed over empty-handed, feel a glimmer of warmth in this new world.
Who says a traveler must be all alone?
