From May 13th last year to May 13th this year, it happened to be the one-year anniversary of my acquaintance with Luo Qian. From the night when Liu Bing inexplicably took me to City South Bathhouse to a few days ago when she was killed at the Hongyun Hotel, it feels like I've had a dream. Now that I've woken up, I feel empty and lonely, and it doesn't seem as pleasant as I imagined. Liu Bing sitting in front of me didn't speak anymore, just stared at me. I picked up my beer and took a sip, looking out the window.
There wasn't a cloud in the sky, no breeze, it was scorching hot, the ground felt like it was on fire, some indistinct gray mist hung low in the air. The whole street felt like a burning brick kiln, making it hard to breathe. In the distance, a dog hid under the eaves, sticking out its bright red tongue. My thoughts involuntarily went back to last summer, and the whole scene felt like entering a time tunnel, pulling me back to the past...
"Is it delicious?" I enthusiastically put a piece of beef into Luo Qian's bowl and smiled at her. This was the first time I had asked Luo Qian out for a meal since getting to know her, and of course, the first choice was this Teochew-style beef hotpot restaurant. Ever since Liu Bing took me for a massage and I met Luo Qian, I had deeply fallen for this woman. She was very attractive, like an ice beauty, not very talkative but very patient to listen to others. At the same time, she exuded a sense of fragility that made people want to protect her. More importantly, she reminded me of my mother who had passed away many years ago. In her, I could always see the image of my mother from my childhood.
"Mmm..." Luo Qian carefully tasted it and said, "It's pretty good." She continued to chew patiently, then looked up and politely smiled at me.
"By the way, you mentioned last time that you work in something called ERP. What does that mean?" The atmosphere was a bit awkward, and Luo Qian seemed to be making small talk as she asked softly.
"The meaning of ERP is Enterprise Resource Planning in English. For example, the hot pot restaurant we're eating at now, from preparing funds to open the store, preparing raw materials, production, sales, and then calculating profits and other business activities, can actually be arranged through enterprise resource planning. We mainly do some system development and informatization related to these things. I don't know if you understand?" I said very patiently.
"I still don't quite understand," she said with an embarrassed smile, then showed a very apologetic expression. "I haven't read many books, sorry."
"Ah, it's okay. Didn't I say I would recommend some books to you last time? You can take a look when you have time." I took out a book from my bag, Sigmund Freud's "An Introduction to Psychoanalysis." "Here, this book is quite interesting."
Luo Qian frowned, "Do you think I have mental problems?"
"Haha, not exactly. This book mainly discusses the psychoanalysis of daily life, exploring the subconscious through the study of theories of slips, such as slips of the tongue, slips of the pen, forgetfulness, misplacement of objects, and other everyday phenomena. It may be a bit obscure, so it might take some effort to read." I handed her the book.
"Why are you recommending this book to me?" She took it and casually flipped through a few pages, then looked at me with sudden interest.
"Because I sense some repression in you. The value of this book lies in its ability to help eliminate such repression, which often exists in disguised forms. It helps uncover your forgotten and repressed instinctual impulses, guiding you to recall previously repressed impulses in order to overcome or conquer the strong resistance to remembering those repressed and forgotten facts." I replied earnestly.
She lowered her head and stirred the satay sauce in the bowl with her chopsticks.
"Do you know? Human males are born with the desire to kill their fathers and marry their mothers, also known as the Oedipus complex. Females are born with the desire to kill their mothers and marry their fathers, also known as the Electra complex," I continued.
"Electra... that name is really complicated, must be a foreigner," Luo Qian responded somewhat absentmindedly.
"Haha, that's right. This has to start with a Greek myth, or should I tell you the story? In ancient Greece, there was a king named Laius, who had a newborn son, Oedipus. There was a prophecy that he would kill his father and marry his mother. Shocked by this prophecy, King Laius ordered the baby to be abandoned on a mountain. However, a shepherd found him and gave him to the neighboring king as a son. Oedipus did not know who his real parents were. As he grew up, he accomplished many heroic deeds and won the queen, Jocasta, as his wife. Later, a plague struck the land, and he discovered that the traveler he had killed years ago was his father, and the woman he was now married to was his mother. Oedipus was filled with shame and anger, so he blinded himself and left Thebes, wandering alone. This event was later named the Oedipus complex, used in psychology to describe individuals with a mother complex, who compete with their fathers for their mothers and have a tendency to self-destruct to relieve their pain."
After pausing, I looked at her. I didn't know if she was interested in the story, so I confirmed with my eyes whether I should continue.
"And then?" Luo Qian asked expressionlessly.
"Another story is about Electra, the daughter of the Greek commander Agamemnon and Queen Clytemnestra. After a war, her father Agamemnon returned home but was killed by the queen and her lover, Aegisthus. Electra inspired her brother, Orestes, to enter the palace and kill her mother and her lover. Psychiatrists use this story of a daughter killing her mother to avenge her father as a metaphor for a girl's Oedipus complex in her psychological development. The Electra complex is also translated as 'father complex,' a concept from the psychoanalytic school. Sigmund Freud, the author of this book, believed that the Electra complex is an unconscious desire in girls aged 2-3, involving love for the father and contempt and hostility towards the mother. He also believed that this complex lasts a long time and is not easily sublimated. This is a famous tragedy from Greek mythology."
"So, according to this theory, you should love your father very much, right?" I asked with a hint of sarcasm.
"No, I want to kill him," she replied, raising her head and glaring at me fiercely...
