Yu Shenglin sighed, "I don't want to either, but if I don't go live, how can I prove my wife's innocence?"
"Your wife's innocence?" I scoffed. "Aren't you two still not married?"
"Soon," Yu Shenglin said, looking at me intently. "We're getting engaged next month."
"Oh really?" I wiped my tears and turned to leave.
Yu Shenglin paused for a moment before catching up to me. "Where are you going?"
"Home."
"I'll take you."
"No need."
I quickened my pace and walked out of the villa.
The sunlight outside was blinding, and I instinctively raised my hand to shield my eyes.
Yu Shenglin caught up and stood beside me. "Dong Xinran, you were pretty fierce just now; it scared me."
I huffed, "I've been training for years; of course I'm strong."
"Li Dawei is in for it this time," Yu Shenglin said, clicking his tongue with a sympathetic expression. "With that hit you gave him, he'll probably be in the hospital for half a year."
"I'm a doctor; I know my limits."
"You're a doctor?" Yu Shenglin looked at me in surprise. "I couldn't tell; you seem like just anyone else."
"You didn't ask," I shot back as I continued walking.
"True," Yu Shenglin admitted, scratching his nose as he walked alongside me. "So where's your hospital? I'll take you there."
"No need; I'll take a taxi home."
"Don't be so cold; we've fought side by side before," Yu Shenglin smiled. "I'm Yu Shenglin; let's get to know each other."
"No need," I replied, pulling out my phone to call a taxi.
"You haven't added me on WeChat yet," Yu Shenglin blocked my path, pulling out his phone and offering it to me.
I pursed my lips, took his phone, and scanned the QR code.
"Now that we're connected, let's keep in touch when you have time," Yu Shenglin said, a bright smile spreading across his face.
I paused for a moment, lowering my gaze. "There won't be a next time."
"What do you mean?" Yu Shenglin hesitated. "Do you think I'm not good enough for you?"
"That's not it." I shook my head. "We won't see each other again."
"That's not necessarily true." Yu Shenglin stepped closer, locking eyes with me. "Dong Xinran, we will definitely meet again."
With that, he waved goodbye and turned to leave.
I exhaled sharply and quickened my pace.
Once outside the villa, I reached the roadside.
As I raised my hand to hail a cab, I realized my right hand had gone numb from gripping too tightly.
I rubbed my wrist, silently lamenting my situation.
I had hit him too hard earlier and was only now feeling the fear creeping in.
But then again, it felt somewhat satisfying.
Li Dawei, that scumbag, deserved it long ago.
I sighed and opened the ride-hailing app to call for a car.
A black Maybach pulled up in front of me.
The window rolled down, revealing Li Dawei's face.
His head was wrapped in bandages, and his face was bruised and battered, looking quite pitiful.
"Xinran, get in the car. I need to talk to you," he said, clutching his arm with a pained expression. "My arm hurts a lot; take me to the hospital."
"Can't you just call an ambulance?" I shot back coldly. "I'm not your driver."
Li Dawei faltered and looked down. "Xinran, I know I was wrong. Give me a chance; let's talk this through."
"What is there left to discuss?" I scoffed. "Li Dawei, let me make this clear: I'm Dong Xinran, not some backup option for you to cheat on and then come back to whenever you feel like it. Do you understand?"
Li Dawei's face turned pale, his lips moved but no words came out.
I shot him a glance and turned to leave.
"Xinran," he called out, panic in his voice as he pushed the car door open and rushed after me. "I really know I was wrong. Please forgive me this once, I promise it won't happen again."
"Won't happen again?" I scoffed. "Li Dawei, do you have any shame? You've already gotten involved with Duranqing, and you still want me to forgive you? Why don't you just go die?"
