A sound came from the rear of the Submersible, and Leng Fengyang reminded A Yan and Luo Shanhe to stay alert. As the noise grew closer, a gigantic deep-sea creature, mutated by the Nuclear Waste Catastrophe, glided through the darkened waters.
It resembled a monstrous ruler of this tainted domain, its scales blackened and marked with strange patterns due to radiation. This created an ominous harmony with the increasingly bizarre deep-sea environment surrounding it. Its eyes, cold and sharp from nuclear influence, flickered with a ghostly green light in the almost nonexistent illumination, as if capable of piercing through the deepest darkness to catch any faint signs of life.
The mutated shark's body was enormous and distorted, every inch of muscle infused with unimaginable explosive power from radiation's twisted force. When it accelerated suddenly, the water seemed to be cleaved apart by an invisible blade, stirring up waves that shimmered with a radioactive sheen.
From its mouth—vastly expanded and wrinkled due to the erosion caused by the Nuclear Waste Catastrophe—protruded rows of razor-sharp fangs that glimmered with an eerie blue light. They resembled blades from hell, sending chills down one's spine at just the thought of them. Could this be a Megalodon? And a mutated one at that.
A Yan halted her pen mid-sketch of the oxygen flow diagram, her face pale as she stared at the massive creature slowly approaching the Submersible, terror evident in her expression.
"A-Feng, how's the Submersible's startup situation?"
Luo Shanhe asked, struggling to maintain his composure despite his overwhelming fear. Just then, a system alert chimed in Leng Fengyang's ear.
"Detected that the Submersible's startup button is rusted and needs to be cleaned before it can be activated."
Leng Fengyang's heart sank at this sudden turn of events, intensifying the already tense atmosphere. He fought to remain calm and rummaged through the maintenance box for possible tools to address this unexpected issue.
A Yan remained frozen in place, her gaze locked onto the encroaching Mutated Megalodon. The creature’s massive form flickered in and out of visibility in the water; each swish of its tail seemed to announce its threat.
"Don't panic!"
Leng Fengyang tried to infuse his voice with steadiness and strength to ease their anxiety. He continued, "A Yan, keep monitoring the Megalodon's movements; Lao Luo, keep trying to restore communication. I will work on getting this startup button functioning again."
Upon hearing this, A Yan and Luo Shanhe sprang into action while Leng Fengyang quickly scanned his surroundings. Fortunately, he found a somewhat sharp piece of scrap metal in the Maintenance Tools box that looked sufficient for scraping off the rust from the button.
Without hesitation, he approached the startup button again. During the rust removal process, he made every effort to minimize noise so as not to attract the attention of that terrifying creature. Holding his breath, he scraped away at the rust with the metal piece bit by bit; each scrape felt like a gamble against fate as he hoped to complete this daunting task before the Megalodon launched an attack.
Sweat trickled down his forehead and fell into the icy seawater below, disappearing instantly. His heart raced as he anxiously awaited results; finally, he cleared away all traces of rust from the startup button, revealing its original color beneath.
Taking a deep breath, he gently placed his finger on the button and silently urged himself: "Now!"
With a faint mechanical hum, the systems of the Submersible gradually awakened, lights flickering on and illuminating the previously dim depths of the ocean. Leng Fengyang let out a sigh of relief, but this was just the first step; the real challenge lay ahead.
"Lao Luo, is there any response from the communicator?" Leng Fengyang asked anxiously while checking the various functions of the Submersible.
Luo Shanhe shook his head, his face still pale. "No, it seems the signal has been disrupted by something. There's no response at all."
"Damn it!" Leng Fengyang muttered under his breath, knowing that now was not the time for complaints. He quickly began to operate the control panel of the Submersible and said, "Without guidance from the communicator, it looks like we'll have to navigate blindly."
Just then, the Mutated Megalodon seemed to notice the Submersible's movements. It suddenly accelerated, its massive body creating turbulent waves in the water as it charged toward them.
"Prepare for emergency ascent!" Leng Fengyang shouted, pressing a series of emergency buttons. The Submersible began to shake violently as it prepared for deep diving.
A Yan gripped her seat tightly, closing her eyes. As the Submersible jolted violently, she felt as if she were being lifted by a powerful force, followed by an overwhelming darkness and silence.
Luo Shanhe did not stop working; he continued searching for a way to restore communication.
Leng Fengyang took a deep breath, readying himself for blind navigation. He gripped the control stick tightly, his eyes fixed on the blurry display ahead, relying on the Submersible's sonar system to navigate through the pitch-black seabed.
The pressure around them increased gradually, accompanied by a buzzing sound as seawater pressed against the Submersible's hull. Each vibration quickened his heartbeat.
At that moment, the sonar detected signs of large movements ahead. Leng Fengyang's heart tightened; it was likely that the Mutated Megalodon was hot on their trail. He quickly adjusted their course, trying to use the complex underwater terrain to evade it. However, the Megalodon was exceptionally cunning, constantly adjusting its tracking angle and refusing to give up.
They had to find a way to shake it off! Leng Fengyang thought to himself, deciding to take a risk. He commanded the Submersible to surge upward abruptly and then dive sharply again, using this drastic rise and fall to confuse the Megalodon.
The seawater churned violently due to the Submersible's rapid movements, creating a chaotic visual field filled with massive bubbles that made tracking difficult for the Megalodon. However, this was only a temporary reprieve.
The Megalodon did not relent; it continued to rely on its astonishing instincts and speed to search for its prey amidst the chaos.
Leng Fengyang knew that this game of hide and seek couldn't last long. He had to find a way out quickly or use the weapon system of the Submersible to fight back; otherwise, they would all be buried in the vast depths of the ocean.

The system's prompt was a welcome surprise for Leng Fengyang. Could it be true?
He understood that in this perilous sea, the Submarine Torpedo might be the key to countering the relentless pursuit of the Megalodon and turning the tide in their favor.
Without hesitation, Leng Fengyang swiftly issued a command: "Immediately send the blueprint to the Synthesis Chamber and prepare the Torpedo launch device with full effort!"
The portable system responded instantly, moving with a life of its own as it quickly transformed every detail from the blueprint into real weapon components.
In an atmosphere filled with tension and hope, the mechanical arms of the system danced skillfully, precisely assembling each Torpedo component until a complete Torpedo emerged before him.
