The night wind swept through the mountain path as Ran Xing had been carrying his luggage towards the seal of the Trial Ground for half a day. Just as he was about to take a break, he suddenly heard some unusual movement not far away. With a flick of his fingers, he released a few strands of Evil Thought and saw a possessed villager, his face twisted in agony, with his Tiger Teeth transformed into fangs. Even some traits of the Evil Spirit were beginning to manifest on this person!
"Heavens, is the transformation almost complete? I've never seen anything like this!" Ran Xing's body tensed.
The creature before him seemed to recognize him as prey. Under the influence of the hunter's instinct, the possessed man dragged his legs forward, scraping against the ground as he approached Ran Xing.
Ran Xing quickly stepped back to evade a punch from the creature and immediately unleashed Vitality to freeze him in place.
"How is this possible!"
To his astonishment, the ice shattered, and the creature emerged unscathed.
It seemed he had no choice but to investigate further!
Without hesitation, Ran Xing charged at the possessed man, pointing a finger at his forehead. As their Evil Thoughts resonated with each other, a door leading to Mindset opened up, and Ran Xing dove right in.
Inside the Mindset, Ran Xing found himself in an environment reminiscent of what his teacher Nian Yueye had described during their practical training. A massive Hatred weighed down on the host, and amidst several guttural roars, the true form of the Evil Spirit finally revealed itself!
What a new face! It even wore armor!
Ran Xing's eyes widened; this creature was robust and muscular, far bulkier than the typical slender Evil Spirits! Unbeknownst to him, this was the newly emerged Nightmare Demon.
In shock, Ran Xing instinctively jumped back just as an explosion occurred, nearly injuring his legs!
The Evil Spirit wasted no time and immediately launched another glowing orb straight at Ran Xing's head.
"Just in time!" Ran Xing seized the opportunity to catch it with his Evil Thought. The sudden impact forced him back several steps. As he gradually converted part of that Evil Thought orb into his own energy, he barely managed to steady himself and then sent the glowing orb back.
With a loud explosion, smoke enveloped Ran Xing's vision. The Nightmare Demon charged through the smoke towards him, and they quickly engaged in a fierce struggle. The Nightmare Demon unleashed powerful punches that struck against Ran Xing's raised arms.
The sound of bones colliding echoed as it smashed into the ground, creating a crack beneath them—Ran Xing knelt on one knee, clearly shaken by this overwhelming force.
No, this wasn't the familiar Evil Spirit! Ran Xing immediately recognized something was off and quickly intensified his release of Vitality, generating a wave that pushed the Nightmare Demon back just enough for him to regain his footing.
"You've got some skills; let me have a taste!" Ran Xing declared as he prepared to take the initiative and confront this formidable foe.
As the smoke settled, Nian Yueye's sweat trickled down his forehead. Vitality surged into Sister Ranxing's body through Divine Fall. Once the infusion was complete, Divine Fall erupted with a brilliant light, gently landing in Shanquing's hands.
In that brief moment, Nian Yueye and Sister Ranxing exchanged glances that seemed to convey a warning or a plea for help. Nian Yueye instantly realized that Shanquing had already prepared a backup plan. However, Divine Fall quickly returned to its rightful place within Sister Ranxing's body, and in that instant, the light in her eyes dulled again, her head, which had slightly lifted, slowly bowed down.
"It seems Shanquing indeed has some grand scheme. Well then, let's see what tricks are at play," Nian Yueye closed his eyes, even as he heard the ominous winds swirling behind him, something rushing toward him.
"Very well, thank you, Nian Yueye," before Shanquing could finish speaking, two Nightmare Demons suddenly emerged from behind and knocked Nian Yueye unconscious, binding him tightly and dragging him away.
Just as Shanquing was about to sit down to rest, he suddenly heard a sound from outside accompanied by a gust of wind rushing toward his back. He immediately shielded Sister Ranxing with his body and reached out in the direction of the wind. A collision ensued, causing a strong commotion as both stepped back a pace, seemingly already aware of each other's intentions.
"What’s this? Have we become so estranged after just a few days?" Dust's familiar face gradually revealed a seductive smile tinged with malice as he looked at Shanquing.
Gui Mei reappeared beside Shanquing using her usual method, eyeing Sister Ranxing with the gaze of a predator spotting its prey.
"You're here without reason; it seems you're ready to set off," Shanquing raised his chin to look down at the slightly shorter Gui Mei, warning her not to harbor any thoughts about those behind him.
"Isn't it often said among heroes or in the marketplace that those who know how to adapt are wise? Since you understand this saying, I believe you know what you need to do next," Gui Mei didn’t rush to reveal specifics but slowly withdrew her hand that had reached for Sister Ranxing. Only when Shanquing also lowered his hand did she continue speaking.
"Is that all there is to it?" Listening to Gui Mei's words made Shanquing grasp the recent developments.
After he set out with Long Shan, they arrived at Skyline Mountain where Long Shan had been sending Evil Spirits to attack the populace, drawing heroes out of hiding.
"Long Shan has been quite successful; he captured a young hero who is now hidden like a dagger in the Trial Ground. He also brought along his research findings. We just need to wait for Long Shan's signal to see this formation come into operation. Do you understand now?"
Gui Mei smiled coldly as she observed Shanquing's impassive expression and reached out again to take away Ranxing's sister.
"Half-telling while showing your intentions is not wise," Shanquing interrupted her actions, insisting that Gui Mei continue speaking.
Gui Mei laughed heartily and continued explaining the information reported by Long Shan.
First of all, the defense setup at the Trial Ground consists of five elemental sealing formations powered by pure Vitality behind five halls. This formation can instantly seal off the Trial Ground from external threats and directly supply pure Vitality to everyone inside, effectively eliminating intruders.
Shanquing had already known this and listened quietly as Gui Mei continued.
Currently at the Trial Ground, Long Shan controlled Lan An and had placed all the array cubes in their designated positions. The final activation was expected in three days' time.
"What’s wrong? Are you worried about being dealt with on-site?" Shanquing scoffed as he looked at Gui Mei, who seemed to still have something crucial left unsaid.
"You seem quite knowledgeable about these matters," Gui Mei showed interest and lightly raised her arm, signaling Shanquing to go on.
"Those things require all five branch points to activate simultaneously in order to form a barrier sealing off the Trial Ground. If one point is destroyed, the barrier cannot be formed; being trapped there is utterly ridiculous." Shanquing scoffed again; it truly surprised him that Long Shan hadn’t even figured this out—he felt he had overestimated this partner.
Gui Mei nodded in satisfaction and praised Shanquing's abilities. With someone like him around, there was no worry about major issues. She then turned her gaze toward Ranxing’s sister and soon their eyes met again.
"Buddy, we don’t need to be so sensitive," Gui Mei looked down at Shanquing with a seductive smile. As comrades on the same front line, how could they proceed without showing sincerity?
"Perhaps it's time for you to bring out what you owe," Shan Qing stood up, having realized his task. Before he would hand over Ran Xing's sister to him, he needed Gui Mei's assurance.
Gui Mei clapped his hands, summoning a newcomer. With a face like jade and a slender figure, he resembled Gui Mei as if they were siblings. The newcomer approached politely and bowed.
"Shan Qing, I've heard much about you. I hope to learn from you," the newcomer introduced himself as Wu Wang, who, like Gui Mei, was ranked among the Ba Huang. Above him was Xing Chi.
Wu Wang continued with the arrangements. From the moment Shan Qing departed, he would take Ran Xing's sister back to Wangliang Mountain. Once the task was completed, Gui Mei would personally deliver her to Shan Qing. The rest of the arrangements for the journey had already been taken care of by Ba Huang Liu Hen, so there was no need for Shan Qing to worry.
"This seems rather formal," Shan Qing remarked, glancing at the two before turning to infuse Vitality into Ran Xing's body. Before long, he informed Gui Mei that Divine Fall had stabilized and there would be no unexpected incidents on the way.
"Very well, it seems it's almost time to set off," Gui Mei said mysteriously as he mentioned an acquaintance.
"Acquaintance? Don't joke with me. Since I left the Trial Ground, I haven't had any acquaintances there," Shan Qing retorted coldly. However, as he listened to Gui Mei's words, he quickly realized who this acquaintance might be.
Shan Qing set off, dust rising slowly and obscuring Gui Mei's view. Everything seemed to eclipse like a moment of a solar eclipse, gradually shrouding the world's light according to the plans laid out by Gui Mei and the other Ba Huang and Liu Hen, allowing Ning Yun to spread across the sky.
After an explosion, Ran Xing had been battling against the circular Mindset arena and the Nightmare Demon for quite some time when she finally spotted an opportunity. After dodging an attack from the Nightmare Demon, a glowing projectile struck a mirror-like surface and bounced back.
After such a prolonged struggle, Ran Xing had gradually worn down the Nightmare Demon's chest armor, revealing something resembling internal organs.
Ran Xing's eyes lit up as she began to release Vitality, casting Water Barrier: Ice Mirror Formation, filling the entire scene with mirrors similar to what she had just seen. The Nightmare Demon seemed somewhat enraged; as all the mirrors reflected Ran Xing's image, it lost its target.
With a furious roar, the Nightmare Demon attacked along the mirrored array set by Ran Xing, but it showed no signs of stopping. Instead, it continued attacking in an attempt to break through all the mirrors.
This played right into Ran Xing's hands. As she wielded Vitality, all the mirrors instantly gathered every Evil Thought energy ball shot by the Nightmare Demon into countless ice spikes that flew toward it. Just as the Nightmare Demon attempted to evade them, ice spikes pierced through its armor's cracks and into its body until it was completely impaled. Only then did the Nightmare Demon dissipate into wisps of smoke before a breathless Ran Xing.
Back in reality, the possessed citizen gradually regained consciousness. Upon seeing the imprint on Ran Xing's waist, he immediately collapsed beside her as if hiding a tremendous secret that remained unspoken...
