I finally remembered that I was not the Rookie Fairy in Nine Heavens; my true identity was the legendary and notoriously troublesome ancient divine beast—Golden Mane Roar.
According to folklore, thousands of years ago, a monstrous beast fought against two dragons and three flood dragons at Kunlun. The beast soared into the air like a blazing flame, roaring at the sky, causing the entire Kunlun to tremble.
This was Golden Mane Roar. Even five against one, the dragons barely managed to win, highlighting its ferocity.
I had no idea which predecessor the legendary Golden Mane Roar was, but I was eager to know how such a formidable divine beast had devolved into this frail form in my possession.
I bit my finger and leaned against Azure Serpent Lord.
Upon learning my true identity, he remained calm as if he had known all along. In response to my flushed face, he even bit his own wrist and offered me his blood to drink, his golden eyes seemingly filled with deep affection.
Could this be what they called Deeply Entangled Love?
But the most pressing issue at hand was still my lineage.
" A Qing, I want to find my master."
Though I said that, where could I possibly look for him? After all, who would abandon their Mount for three or four years? Should I sniff around like a celestial hound?
"Go to Penglai," Azure Serpent Lord suggested. "Even if you can't find Ksitigarbha, you can ask Bai Ze the Great Sage."
Oh, why hadn't I thought of that? Bai Ze had a compendium of spirits and deities that recorded the histories of all divine beings across the realms. He himself was an incredibly powerful divine beast, knowledgeable about both celestial matters and trivial details. Unfortunately, his pride had led him to be imprisoned by the Heavenly Emperor on Penglai Mountain, unable to leave for eternity.
When we arrived at the misty Penglai Mountain, Bai Ze was busy indulging in a life of pleasure.
"Bai Ze!" I called out with a smile as I approached him.
Upon seeing me, he fell off his wisteria chair. "Nan Ci, you finally remembered me?"
His words were ambiguous, so I needed to clarify that my relationship with Bai Ze was purely platonic.
At that time, I was known as the Golden Mane Roar of the Dragon Eater, while he was a scholar who ventured into dangerous territories to explore various monsters.
When he encountered me, I was at my most desperate moment. I had sustained severe injuries and was being chased by a giant python. Unknowingly, I had stumbled into the bustling city of Chang'an. With a monstrous appearance, fangs bared and face painted red, I walked down the street and immediately attracted the attention of humans. They threw eggs and cow dung at me, while children hung lit firecrackers around my neck.
I was truly terrified, only able to curl up and wail.
Bai Ze stood in front of me, his white robes flowing like an ethereal being. He sternly said, "She is a living creature just like you all; she has not harmed you. Why do you treat her this way?"
I was instantly moved to tears, thinking how fortunate I was to have found someone who understood me. Although I had a penchant for dragon brain, I had never harmed a single human.
After that encounter, I accompanied Bai Ze and we lived in harmony for over a hundred years until I met my master.
"Nan Ci, do you know that when Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva took you away, I couldn't eat or sleep? It's been a thousand years and you haven't come to see me. I thought..."
As Bai Ze recited his lamentations like Tang Seng, the Azure Serpent Lord looked at me with deep sorrow and said, "A Ci, you've suffered so much; it's truly my fault!"
I ran my fingers through his hair. It wasn't his fault; after all, I met him too late.
"A Ci," he said, grasping my hand, his golden eyes glistening with moisture.
Strangely enough, it had started to drizzle on Penglai Island. I remembered that this place was usually shrouded in mist, with rain falling only once every thousand years. What a coincidence that it would happen now...
Bai Ze also paused, looking at the Azure Serpent Lord with confusion, uttering two words: "Longqi!"
Wasn't it said that only the dragon clan weeps, causing the heavens to shed fine rain? Could it be that the Azure Serpent Lord...
