"Does that bet count?"
At night, Chu Xi and I lay in bed together, far apart with no physical contact, as if separated by a barrier.
Silence spread through the dark room, with only the sound of her quickly typing on the keyboard, which eventually stopped.
"Song Xu, I don't want to get married yet."
"Is it because of Liu Heyang?"
"Of course not! What does he have to do with it?"
She turned on the bedside lamp and sat up as if she wanted to argue with me.
I didn't say anything, with my back to her, unsure of how to face her.
"Song Xu, I'm angry."
Chu Xi Never give in. Saying this means allowing me to coax her, which is already her biggest concession to me. But this time, I suddenly lost my patience. I hardly slept all night, and when the alarm on my phone started vibrating, I fumbled to turn it off.
I also walked into the kitchen and got up to make breakfast for Chu Xi. Then I realized I was being too simplistic. The hot milk couldn't find its way into the cup, and I burned myself on the hot pot countless times. I doubted countless times whether I had cracked the egg into the bowl.
I rubbed my eyes hard until they were red and hot, but my vision remained blurry. I gave up. I sat on the sofa for who knows how long, only coming to my senses when I heard movement beside me.
Chu Xi Woke up without saying a word to me, dressed herself in silence. I only moved my fingers when I heard the sound of her changing shoes, looking at her in disbelief. I heard the crisp sound of the door handle being pressed before she finally spared me a few words before leaving. "Are you trying to pick a fight with me?"
"Okay, then let's break up." The window was closed, and the air in the room felt a bit stuffy. There was a faint pain in my stomach. Other than Zhong Yang bringing me a meal once, I haven't eaten anything else these past two days, nor have I had a drop of water.
I pretended to be natural and let Zhong Yang not worry about me. I told him that I know how to order from the food delivery app on my phone and can also call the nearby snack shop. He is easygoing and knows that I don't like to trouble others. After hearing what I said, he instructed me to take care of myself. I smiled and responded before hanging up the phone.
Then, facing a screen where even half of the icons couldn't be seen clearly, I tried to find the desired software for a long time based on memory, but still couldn't locate it. Finally, after a lot of effort, I found the switch for the Accessibility mode, but when making the payment, it failed several times in a row. In the empty house, my heavy sigh echoed.
I casually threw my phone onto the sofa, lay back in despair, and closed my eyes.
Suddenly, I felt relieved.
With this attitude, how can I be worthy of being with Chu Xi?
This week has passed by very quickly, and I have been feeling drowsy every day. Sometimes I would inexplicably lose focus, and when I come to, I would hear the noise of elementary school students playing downstairs after school, and then I realize that another day has passed. These days have been very quiet, except for Zhong Yang bringing me some things, no one has visited me.
That day, Chu Xi left without any mercy.
Such an arrogant young lady, even breaking up was just a notification.
Without me, she should be more at ease.
I forced a smile with a self-deprecating tone.
I gathered my emotions and prepared to move.
The phone on the sofa suddenly rang, probably Zhong Yang calling.
I can now basically adapt to moving around at home relying on my senses and memory. I feel my way along the back of the sofa and pick up my phone. "Hello?" My voice is a bit hoarse as I casually answer, put the phone on speaker, and continue tidying up the things on the sofa.
But no one has been speaking over there.
I sensed something was wrong, so I hastily put down what I was holding, picked up my phone, and held it to my ear.
"Song Xu, I'm at West Street Bar. I need you to come and pick me up right away!"
