As Jojo suddenly stopped dancing, a pout formed on her lips, and with a playful glance, she complained, "I'm done. It's always this song; I'm so tired of it."
Xue Feifei's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Good point! Isn't Little Bai good at playing the piano? Let's call him over."
She looked around but couldn't find Little Bai.
Ever since that day, Little Bai had become much more obedient, content to be the pet of the Master of Ceremonies. Yet today, something seemed to have upset him again.
The night at Penglai Guest was a stark contrast to the daytime heat, with stars twinkling brightly and a gentle breeze blowing.
From a distance, Xue Feifei spotted Little Bai in plain clothes, sitting motionless on a rock like a statue. She wondered how long he had been there.
Well, he was supposed to be playing the piano; instead, he was hiding here enjoying the scenery.
Just as she was about to scold him, she saw Little Bai raise his hand to wipe his cheek and then tilt his head back, his long hair flowing in the sea breeze, making him appear even more solitary.
A pang of sympathy struck Xue Feifei as she paused for a moment before approaching him. "Why are you here all alone?"
Upon hearing her voice, Little Bai quickly wiped away his tears. When he turned to see her, he immediately turned away without acknowledging her.
Xue Feifei snorted coldly and bumped into him hard enough that he nearly fell off the rock. He shot her an angry glare but dared not say anything, merely turning his head away in frustration.
Sitting down beside him casually, Xue Feifei asked, "Are you missing the capital?"
With a single, pointed remark, Xiaobai's body stiffened, and he instinctively bit his lip, falling silent.
"News from the capital has arrived. The young lord has ascended the throne, the Empress Dowager is behind the curtain, and the Prime Minister is assisting in governance," Xue Feifei said, casting a fleeting glance at Xiaobai. Noticing the restraint in his eyes, she sighed inwardly and withdrew her gaze.
The sound of Haitao was incessant; the vast sea stretched endlessly, and the world seemed boundless. Although nothing was visible, it felt as if there were endless landscapes to behold.
"The capital... it must be snowing, right?" Xiaobai spoke slowly, exhaling a breath that seemed to carry a thousand unspoken words.
"Snowing?" Penglai Guest asked eagerly. Living in a region that was perpetually hot with frequent downpours but never having seen snow, he couldn't contain his curiosity. "Does it really snow in the capital?"
Xiaobai paused for a moment before softly replying, "Yes."
Xue Feifei leaned in closer, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "What is snow like? Is it like sand? Why do people say it's white? Is snow really white? Does it taste good?"
Xiaobai looked at her in confusion for a moment. Seeing her innocent expression, devoid of any ulterior motives, a feather seemed to glide gently over his heart. His previous wariness faded away without him realizing it, and a rare tenderness crept into his tone. "Snow doesn't taste good. I remember when I was young, we would make snowballs and have snowball fights, even stuffing snow down each other's collars."
Talking about snow seemed to open up an endless stream of memories. Xiaobai chuckled self-deprecatingly and turned to look at Xue Feifei.
Xue Feifei's face fell with sadness as she said wistfully, "I’ve only heard my father mention these things when he returned from the capital. I asked him why he didn’t bring me back some snow, and he said it would melt. Is that true?"
Xiaobai smiled gently. "Yes, snow does melt. The cold winter will pass eventually."
"That year, my father also brought me a hairpin; he chose it specially shaped like a snowflake..."
The hairpin, could it be that one? Xiao Bai's heart stirred as he gazed at Xue Feifei in surprise. Noticing that Feifei had fallen silent, a wave of guilt washed over him. He cautiously said, "I'm sorry..."
"What do you mean 'sorry'?" Xue Feifei looked at him in confusion, her expression blank. Her long eyelashes fluttered like butterfly wings as she casually played with her hair. For a brief moment, Xiao Bai was entranced, feeling as if the girl before him was not his master but rather a lost spirit searching for her beloved hairpin. Before he could fully process his thoughts, Xue Feifei had assertively pulled him along.
"Hey, what are you doing...?"
"Come on, let's go so you can play the piano for me!"
