Li Lin held Xiao Xing tightly as they cautiously stepped deeper into the cave. A few pairs of eerie green eyes gradually came into focus, revealing mutated creatures resembling wolves but much larger in size. "Damn it, this is trouble," he muttered.
The Mutated Wolf Pack slowly advanced, their low growls echoing throughout the cave. Li Lin gripped his handgun tightly, cold sweat trickling down his forehead. "Xiao Xing, we need to find a way out."
Just as they were about to be overwhelmed, a sudden roar echoed from above, followed by a blinding light that illuminated the entire space.
"Li Lin! Grab the rope!" Liya's voice called from above.
Li Lin looked up to see a rope dangling from the cave's ceiling. Without hesitation, he grabbed it. "Pull us up quickly!"
The Mutated Wolf Pack let out furious howls and lunged at Li Lin and Xiao Xing, but it was too late. They were swiftly pulled up to safety, narrowly escaping danger.
"Thank goodness you’re okay," Liya sighed in relief, hugging both Li Lin and Xiao Xing tightly.
Old Ma wiped the sweat from his forehead. "We’re lucky we found this entrance; otherwise, I don’t know what we would have done."
Li Lin took a deep breath and surveyed the surroundings. It seemed to be an abandoned underground shelter, with walls covered in mottled marks and the air thick with a musty scent.
"We need to get out of here," Li Lin said. "Those mutated wolves could catch up at any moment."
At that moment, a raspy voice suddenly spoke up. "Wait, young ones."
Everyone turned alertly to see a ragged old man stepping out from the shadows. His face was lined with wrinkles, but his eyes shone with intensity. "You shouldn't be here."
"Who are you?" Li Lin asked warily, instinctively shielding Xiao Xing.
The old man chuckled bitterly. "I am Isaac, once a scholar. Now, well, just an old madman forgotten by the world."
Liya frowned. "Mr. Isaac, what exactly is this place?"
Isaac did not answer directly but instead fixed his gaze on Xiao Xing in Li Lin's arms. "Interesting—how did you find her?"
Li Lin was taken aback. "You know Xiao Xing?"
Isaac smiled mysteriously. "Come with me; I have something to show you."
Despite his doubts, curiosity compelled Li Lin and the others to follow Isaac deeper into the shelter.
Isaac led them to a spacious room, its walls covered in various strange patterns and inscriptions.
Lao Lei, sharp-eyed, immediately spotted a mural on the wall. "Is this...?" He pointed at a creature resembling Xiao Xing, astonished.
Li Lin followed Lao Lei's gaze and felt a chill run down his spine, instinctively tightening his embrace around Xiao Xing.
Isaac spoke in a low voice. "This is part of the Apocalypse Prophecy, which mentions that a powerful being will emerge. It will bring hope but may also bring destruction."
Liya asked nervously, "What does it refer to?"
Isaac looked at Li Lin and Xiao Xing, his eyes filled with complex emotions. "The prophecy states that the savior will possess star wings and will be able to guide all beings."
Li Lin's heart surged with conflicting feelings; he had never imagined he would be linked to such a grand destiny. "This... this is absurd."
At that moment, Xiao Xing suddenly emitted a low, rumbling sound, its body trembling slightly as if sensing the prophecy's content.
Li Lin gently stroked Xiao Xing, trying to soothe it. "Don't be afraid, little one; I'm here."
Isaac continued interpreting the mural. "The prophecy also mentions an unprecedented disaster approaching. Only the one with star wings can save this world."
Everyone fell silent, each person processing this astonishing information.
Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed from the corridor. Li Lin immediately became alert. "Someone's coming!"
In the next moment, a group of fully armed men burst into the room. The leader coldly said, "Hand over the data, Isaac."
Isaac's expression changed. "How did you find this place?"
The man sneered, "That's not important. What matters is that your research is coming to an end."
Li Lin and the Squad quickly assumed battle stances, while Xiao Xing suddenly let out a sharp cry, and its body began to glow.
"Watch out!" Li Lin shouted as a powerful surge of energy erupted from Xiao Xing.
The enemies were caught off guard by the sudden attack, and Li Lin seized the opportunity to lead the Squad in a counterattack.
During the battle, Xiao Xing displayed unprecedented strength; it seemed to be influenced by a prophecy, significantly enhancing its combat abilities.
After a fierce exchange of fire, Li Lin and the others successfully repelled the enemies, but they all knew that greater danger was approaching.
"We need to get out of here," Li Lin panted. "Mr. Isaac, you have to come with us."
Isaac hesitated for a moment but eventually nodded in agreement. "Alright, it's no longer safe here."
Just as everyone prepared to evacuate, a deep voice suddenly rang out, "Wait."
