Li Lin clenched his fists, gritting his teeth as he faced the tall, cold man. "Who are you? What is the plan?"
The man let out a cold laugh. "You'll find out soon enough." With a wave of his hand, the soldiers raised their weapons, aiming at the three.
At that critical moment, a fierce wind suddenly howled from the entrance of the passage. Li Lin reacted quickly, grabbing Liya and Xiao Xing, using the momentum to roll to the side.
"Boom!" The passage collapsed, and a massive sandstorm instantly engulfed the entire space.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Li Lin pulled Liya and Xiao Xing along, struggling to move through the swirling yellow sand. The wind and sand cut like knives against their faces. "Hurry! Run that way!"
The three of them stumbled through the storm, with sand obscuring all visibility. Li Lin held tightly onto Liya's hand, terrified of losing her.
"Ugh—" Xiao Xing suddenly let out a low growl, as if sensing something.
Li Lin's heart raced. "Be careful!" He abruptly threw himself over Liya.
A massive rock whizzed past overhead, grazing their scalps before crashing to the ground.
Liya's face turned pale as blood seeped from her right arm wound. "We can't hold on much longer."
Li Lin gritted his teeth. "We need to find cover." He scanned the area and spotted a pile of ruins not far away.
The three of them struggled toward the ruins, each step feeling like a battle against death. The wind howled, debris flew around them, and visibility was less than a meter.
Suddenly, Liya stumbled and fell to the ground. "Ah!" She cried out in pain, clutching her right arm.
Li Lin felt a surge of panic; he knew Liya's injury was worsening. "Hold on! We're almost there!"
Xiao Xing anxiously paced around the two, suddenly a strange light flickered in its eyes.
A gentle energy field spread from Xiao Xing's body, briefly warding off the onslaught of wind and sand.
Li Lin was taken aback for a moment, then quickly reacted, "What a great opportunity!" He scooped up Liya and dashed toward the ruins.
The three of them finally burst into a half-collapsed building. Li Lin swiftly scanned the surroundings and spotted a passage leading to the basement. "There!"
They stumbled down the stairs and arrived in a dark, damp underground space. With the faint light, Li Lin realized this seemed to be an abandoned Bunker.
"We're safe for now," Li Lin sighed in relief, carefully setting Liya down.
Liya's face was pale, and the wound on her right arm had begun to inflame. "I need medicine and water."
Li Lin felt a surge of anxiety. "I'll go find some." He turned to leave but was stopped by Liya's weak grip.
"It's too dangerous," she said softly.
Li Lin held her hand tightly. "I have to go. I promise I'll be back."
Liya bit her lip and nodded. Xiao Xing nestled beside her, gently licking her hand.
Taking a deep breath, Li Lin turned and plunged into the storm. The howling winds and cutting sands felt like knives; each step was agony as he fought through the pain, searching for any supplies among the ruins.
Finally, in an abandoned medical station, he found some medicine and bottled water. Overjoyed, he hurried back without checking for expiration dates.
However, when he rushed back to the Bunker, the sight before him froze him in place.
Liya lay unconscious on the ground while Xiao Xing anxiously circled around her, whimpering continuously.
"Liya!" Li Lin rushed forward, trembling as he checked her breathing and pulse.
At that moment, Xiao Xing suddenly perked up its ears and let out a low growl. Li Lin instinctively looked up to see several pairs of green eyes lurking in the shadows of the Bunker, watching them intently.
A group of mutated Sand Scorpions was silently closing in on them.
