The energy from Xiao Xing resonated with the device in the center of the room, causing the entire base to shake violently. Li Lin held onto Xiao Xing tightly, blue light flickering in his eyes as he stared directly at Black Blade.
"Your scheme ends here," Li Lin said coldly.
Black Blade grinned wickedly and raised his gun. "Kid, you're too naive."
The moment the gun fired, a blue energy shield appeared in front of Li Lin. The bullet ricocheted off, leaving a deep mark on the wall.
"Liya!" she exclaimed. "Li Lin, be careful!"
Just then, the ground shook violently. The ceiling began to collapse, massive stones crashing down.
"Damn it, it's an earthquake!" Black Blade cursed. "Retreat!"
The raiders fled in panic. Li Lin grabbed Liya's hand. "We need to get out of here too."
The two of them rushed out of the room, holding onto Xiao Xing. The entire base was thrown into chaos, with members of the Wasteland Watchers and surviving raiders scrambling everywhere, screams echoing around them.
"Over there!" Liya pointed to a corridor. "That might lead to the surface."
Li Lin nodded and led Liya and Xiao Xing toward that direction. A rumbling sound came from behind them as the tunnel began to cave in.
"Run!" Li Lin shouted.
They sprinted desperately, the sound of collapsing debris growing closer. Suddenly, Li Lin felt a sharp pain as his previous wounds reopened.
"Hang on!" Liya supported him. "We're almost there."
A glimmer of light appeared ahead. Gritting their teeth, they charged toward the exit. Just as they burst out of the tunnel, a tremendous crash echoed behind them as it collapsed completely.
Li Lin and Liya lay on the ground, gasping for breath. The surroundings were in disarray, and the entrance to the base was completely buried.
"We... we survived," Liya said, trembling.
Li Lin held Xiao Xing tightly in his arms. "Yeah, thanks to this little guy."
Xiao Xing let out a faint sound, curled up in Li Lin's embrace. It seemed drained of energy and looked utterly exhausted.
"Li Lin! Liya!" A voice called out from a distance; it was Alpha.
Li Lin struggled to stand up and saw Alpha and Rick running toward them.
"Thank goodness you’re okay," Alpha sighed in relief. "We thought you were trapped inside."
Rick's face was pale. "What just happened? That beast..."
Li Lin shook his head. "It's a long story. Let's find a safe place first."
The four of them trudged through the rubble with difficulty. After the earthquake, the landscape had changed dramatically. The once flat ground was now riddled with massive cracks, and new hills could be seen in the distance.
"This place has completely transformed," Liya murmured. "Where should we go?"
Li Lin looked around and suddenly noticed something strange. "Look over there."
He pointed to a distant area shrouded in a faint blue glow, which stood out starkly against the chaotic surroundings.
"What is that..." Alpha's eyes widened. "Could it be related to that device in the base?"
Li Lin nodded, "It's very likely that we should investigate this."
At that moment, Xiao Xing stirred in Li Lin's arms. It opened its eyes and stared intently at the blue halo.
"It seems Xiao Xing feels the same way," Li Lin said. "Let's go."
The four of them moved toward the mysterious area. As they got closer, they sensed a peculiar energy fluctuation.
"This feeling..." Rick frowned, "It's just like that device back at the base."
Li Lin nodded. "Exactly. I think we might be on the verge of uncovering a monumental secret."
Just as they were about to step into the blue halo, a sudden gunshot rang out.
"Damn it!" Alpha shouted. "It's the remnants of the raiders!"
Li Lin quickly pulled Liya behind a large rock. "It seems they've noticed something unusual here too."
Amidst the hail of bullets, the four were trapped behind the boulder. Li Lin glanced at Xiao Xing in his arms and then looked toward the mysterious blue area.
He knew that an even more thrilling adventure awaited them.
