Li Lin and the others left the abandoned city, with Xing'er closely following their footsteps.
The desolate wasteland stretched out beneath them, the sky overcast as if it might collapse at any moment.
"I always feel like someone is watching us," Li Lin whispered, glancing around warily.
Liya tightened her grip on the Medical Kit. "You feel it too? I thought I was just being overly sensitive."
Li Lin shook his head. "No, your instincts are right."
They quickened their pace, and Xing'er seemed to sense the tension, whimpering uneasily.
Suddenly, a faint rustling sound came from behind them.
Li Lin spun around, narrowing his eyes into a slit. "Looks like our little tail can’t hold back any longer."
Liya asked nervously, "What should we do?"
Li Lin's gaze swept over the surrounding terrain, a cold smile creeping onto his lips. "I have an idea."
They quickly moved toward a secluded valley, with Li Lin quietly explaining the plan as they walked.
The valley was littered with abandoned vehicles and massive rocks, providing them with excellent cover.
"Are you sure this will work?" Liya asked, a hint of worry in her voice.
Li Lin nodded. "Trust me, I didn’t waste my time in the military."
They quickly set up the trap and hid behind a rusty truck.
Time ticked by, and the air was thick with suffocating tension.
Finally, a shadow silently entered the valley.
Li Lin held his breath, waiting for the perfect moment.
The shadow moved cautiously, clearly unaware of the danger.
Just as it stepped into the trap's range, Li Lin yanked the rope with all his might.
With a loud crash, a pile of rubble cascaded down from above, instantly burying the shadow.
Li Lin and Liya rushed out from their cover to subdue the struggling Stalker.
"Who are you? Why are you following us?" Li Lin demanded sharply.
The Stalker struggled for a moment before finally giving in. "I... I'm just a scavenger."
Li Lin scoffed. "A scavenger? You look more like a scout for raiders."
The Stalker's pupils dilated in shock, clearly caught off guard by the accusation.
Liya pulled out a syringe from the Medical Kit. "If you don't tell the truth, I can't guarantee what's in this needle."
"Don't... don't use that! I’ll tell you everything," he trembled as he confessed that he was indeed a spy for the Raiders Group, tasked with following Li Lin and his companions.
"What do you want?" Li Lin pressed.
The spy's gaze fell on Xing'er. "That... that beast. The leader is very interested in it."
Li Lin's heart tightened, instinctively stepping in front of Xing'er.
"What do you know?" Liya demanded.
The spy shook his head. "I'm just a small fry; I don't know much."
He coughed a few times, seemingly suffering from internal injuries. "But... but I heard that thing might be related to the future of humanity."
Li Lin and Liya exchanged glances, shock evident in their eyes.
At that moment, the spy suddenly began to cough violently, blood spilling from the corner of his mouth.
"What’s wrong with you?" Liya exclaimed.
The spy struggled to breathe. "Poison... it's acting up... it's the group's rule..."
Li Lin frowned, "What else do you know? Speak quickly!"
The scout's breath grew weaker, and with his last ounce of strength, he said, "Tears of the Stars... it will guide... destruction..."
Before he could finish, his body convulsed violently and then lay still.
Li Lin and Liya exchanged shocked glances, both taken aback by the sudden turn of events.
"Tears of the Stars? What is that?" Liya murmured.
Li Lin shook his head. "I don't know, but it doesn't sound like something good."
They examined the scout's body but found no valuable clues.
"We need to leave here quickly," Li Lin said cautiously. "There are surely more raiders around."
Just as they were about to move, Xing'er suddenly let out a sharp cry.
Li Lin and Liya turned in surprise to see Xing'er's eyes shimmering with an unusual light.
"What's wrong with it?" Liya asked nervously.
Li Lin crouched down and gently stroked Xing'er. "I don't know, but I feel like it's trying to tell us something."
At that moment, a gentle breeze swept by, carrying a faint, elusive scent.
Li Lin suddenly stood up, squinting into the distance. "Someone is watching us."
Liya asked nervously, "Is it the raiders?"
Li Lin shook his head. "I don't know, but I have a bad feeling about this."
They packed their belongings and quickly left the valley with Xing'er.
Unbeknownst to them, on a distant high ground, a burly man was observing their every move through binoculars.
A cold smile crept across the man's lips. "Interesting. It seems this prey won't be easy to catch."
He picked up his communicator. "Tell the brothers to prepare for action."
As night fell, a crisis was quietly brewing in the wasteland.
