Li Xue drove back to the Li Family Villa. The villa was located in a secluded area in the eastern part of the city, surrounded by a tranquil environment. She parked the car in the garage, then got out and walked into the house.
Li Wenguang was watering the flowers and plants in the courtyard. When he saw Li Xue come in, he exclaimed in surprise, "What brings you back?"
"Dad," Li Xue smiled gently, "I missed you."
"Come on," Li Wenguang scoffed, "You're a busy person; when would you have time to miss me?"
"I really am busy, but I miss you even more," Li Xue said with a smile as she hugged him. "I truly do."
"Alright, alright," Li Wenguang chuckled, patting her shoulder. "You're all grown up now; still acting like a child."
"No matter how old I get, I'm still your daughter," Li Xue pouted playfully.
"Haha," Li Wenguang laughed heartily. "Okay, you're Daddy's good girl."
"Mm." Li Xue nodded with a beaming smile.
"By the way," Li Wenguang asked curiously, "what made you come back so suddenly?"
"Xiao Jin is about to take his college entrance exams, so I came back to check on him," Li Xue replied with a smile.
"Oh." Li Wenguang nodded and didn't say anything further.
As Li Xue walked into the house and was about to head upstairs, she heard a cold voice behind her: "What are you back for?"
Turning around, she saw Li Jin standing at the doorway of the living room, looking at her with a cold glare.
Li Jin was her younger brother, twenty years old, standing at six feet tall and handsome. However, the look in his eyes was filled with resentment.
"Xiao Jin..." Li Xue looked at him with mixed emotions.
"Hmph." Li Jin snorted coldly and turned to go back to his room.
"You brat!" Li Wenguang exclaimed angrily. "How can he speak to you like that?!"
"Let it go, Dad," Li Xue shook her head. "He's just in a bad mood."
"Even if he's upset, he shouldn't take it out on you!" Li Wenguang frowned. "You're his sister."
"I've made many mistakes before; it's only natural for him to hate me," Li Xue said bitterly.
"You... sigh!" Li Wenguang sighed, not saying anything more.
Li Xue smiled faintly and turned to go upstairs. She arrived at Li Jin's room and knocked on the door. No one answered.
Li Xue pushed the door open and walked in. Li Jin was sitting in front of the computer, engrossed in a game, seemingly unaware of her presence.
She approached him and softly said, "Xiao Jin, I bought the latest gaming laptop. It's been delivered to the study downstairs; you can check it out later to see if you like it."
Li Jin appeared not to hear her, continuing to play his game.
Li Xue sighed and turned to leave.
"Get lost!" Li Jin suddenly shouted, "I don't need your fake concern."
Li Xue stopped in her tracks, closed her eyes, suppressing the pain inside her. After a long moment, she reopened her eyes and gently replied, "Then enjoy your game; I won't disturb you anymore."
With that, she left the room.
Li Jin watched her disappearing figure, gritting his teeth in frustration.
Back in her own room, Li Xue immediately shut the door and slid down against it to sit on the floor, hugging her knees and burying her face in them.
I'm sorry, Xiao Jin, I'm so sorry...
She had made many mistakes; she felt sorry for everyone. But she truly didn't want things to be this way. She was also suffering and regretting everything, but it was all too late now.
Sitting on the floor, Li Xue fell into endless self-reproach.
As night fell and the moon climbed above the treetops, Li Xue remained motionless on the floor. It wasn't until ten o'clock that she finally stood up, washed up briefly, and lay down in bed to sleep.
She closed her eyes, and memories of the original owner and her family floated through her mind. The original owner's father, Li Wenguang, was the president of a publicly listed company, while her mother was a wealthy heiress. Their family was affluent.
The original owner was the only daughter, and her parents doted on her. She had a gentle and kind personality, showing filial piety and respect towards her parents, and showering love on her younger brother. Her life was quite happy, but she had one worry—her brother, Li Jin, despised her.
Li Jin was five years younger than the original owner and was currently in his senior year of college, about to graduate. While she cherished him dearly, Li Jin harbored a strong dislike for her, even to the point of hatred. The original owner couldn't understand why; she believed she treated him well, yet he seemed to grow more resentful with each passing day.
This troubled her greatly. She tried hard to improve their relationship, but the results were minimal. With that thought in mind, Li Xue sighed. She needed to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
The next evening, Li Xue returned home. Li Wenguang and Li Jin were in the living room watching television. She greeted them briefly before heading to her room.
As soon as she sat down at her vanity, there was a knock on the door. "Come in," she called out. The door opened, and Li Jin walked in.
Li Xue looked at him and smiled slightly. "Xiao Jin, is there something you need?"
Li Jin stood at the door, looking at her in silence for a moment before speaking up. "Mom wants you to come down for dinner."
"Okay," Li Xue nodded and stood up to head outside. Li Jin followed behind her without saying a word.
