Liang Chao was a seasoned player in the game of love, unfazed by the unexpected, moving forward with confidence. Beneath her open clothing, it felt as if countless ants were gnawing away at her last line of defense.
A cluster of delicate, silky foliage emerged under the bright lights, and Liang Chao wore a victorious smile as she lowered her head, her movements bold and decisive. The room was thick with an ambiguous atmosphere, their clothes strewn across the floor like remnants of a storm. The two figures intertwined, and YaYa felt a sharp pang of breathlessness, as if caught in a whirlpool that engulfed her entirely, pulling her into an overwhelming wave of comfort.
The phone lay discarded on the side, its screen dark, while the two entangled figures continued their intimate dance.
Sun Meng repeatedly called Liang Chao, but the phone remained off. Confused, she instructed Zhiqing and hurriedly grabbed her bag to rush to the clinic. Liang Chao only turned off her phone at night; otherwise, it would be quite disruptive if a call came just as they were getting into the moment, ruining the mood and leaving them both unhappy.
Over time, Sun Meng had come to understand this habit of Liang Chao. Whenever they were engaged in such activities, he had to turn off his phone; otherwise, he simply couldn't focus.
Driving Zhiqing's car still felt somewhat unfamiliar to Sun Meng, as it wasn't her own vehicle. She navigated through the stops and starts of traffic lights, growing increasingly frustrated. Despite all the extensive road construction aimed at improving connectivity, traffic remained heavy. Even after years of implementing family planning policies, the population still outnumbered that of many other countries by several times.
The car finally arrived at Liang Chao's clinic, but the door was closed. This puzzled Sun Meng. Where could Liang Chao have gone? After parking the car, she pulled out her phone to call again. The phone was still off. Remembering she had a spare key for the clinic in her pocket, Sun Meng decided she would wait inside for Liang Chao to return.
Exiting the car, she took out the key and opened the clinic's rolling shutter door. The sound echoed like thunder, startling both individuals on the bed.
Having just finished their passionate encounter, Liang Chao wanted nothing more than to lie still for a moment. However, YaYa had other ideas and held her down. Not yet satisfied, Liang Chao reached beneath the blanket again to caress YaYa's softness. The sudden noise from the rolling door startled Liang Chao, causing her to scramble up in a flurry to put on her pants.
Beside her, YaYa was equally flustered. At that moment, Liang Chao quickly steadied her and said something reassuring. In a hurry, YaYa began dressing too but stayed put inside without daring to move outside.
Summer clothing was light and simple; within moments they managed to get dressed in a somewhat haphazard manner.
As Sun Meng entered the room and plopped down into a chair, she couldn't shake thoughts about Ziya. She pulled out her phone to call Zhiqing, but then heard some commotion coming from inside.
Sun Meng rose from her chair, her gaze suspicious as she picked up a small mat from Liang Chao's desk, the one he used to take patients' pulses. She walked step by step toward the inner room.
"Hey! Honey, you're here!" Liang Chao suddenly appeared at the doorway of the inner room, shouting, which startled Sun Meng and left her momentarily frozen.
"Are you taking a nap in there all by yourself?" Sun Meng tried to peek inside, but Liang Chao wrapped his arms around her waist, smiling as he guided her back to the armchair she had just vacated.
"Who else would be in there? A ghost?" Liang Chao feigned calmness while eagerly pouring water for Sun Meng and asking her trivial questions that seemed unrelated.
As the saying goes, "When someone is overly attentive without reason, they are either up to no good or hiding something." Liang Chao was the epitome of a macho man; he never took the initiative to pour water for Sun Meng or engage in idle chit-chat without a motive.
"You haven't done anything to betray me, have you? Where's YaYa?" Sun Meng scrutinized Liang Chao with suspicion, hoping to uncover some clue from his typically composed yet now seemingly innocent expression.
"You’re just being paranoid. If I treat you well, you suspect me; if I ignore you, you say I'm cold. What do you want me to do? We’re married now; if we can’t trust each other, what’s the point of this relationship?" Liang Chao's expression shifted as he turned the tables on her.
"I was just asking! By the way, Ziya has been hospitalized. It's serious. I almost forgot to tell you!"
"Ziya is hospitalized? You idiot! Let’s go!" Liang Chao had intended to send Sun Meng away but was taken aback by the news of Ziya's hospitalization.
Genuine concern washed over Liang Chao as he didn’t think twice and hurriedly left the clinic with Sun Meng. He pulled down the roller shutter and rushed to his car, driving towards Second Hospital. To Liang Chao, Ziya was like a goddess; her aloof personality and distant demeanor captivated him. Perhaps loving someone didn’t mean possessing them but rather cherishing them deeply in one’s heart, silently watching over them and wishing them well—perhaps that was a form of happiness too.
Ziya heard voices calling out and people crying. She struggled to discern where the sounds were coming from when suddenly she felt herself lift off the ground, as light as cotton. She floated into a room filled with an aura of chill. Hovering in mid-air, Ziya saw several people inside and one person lying motionless on a bed, looking as if they were dead.
A nurse held up a syringe, preparing to administer an injection under the doctor's orders. Just then, someone pushed Ziya from behind. Losing her balance, she stumbled forward and fell directly onto the still figure lying on the bed.
The nurse, holding the syringe, pushed out the air bubbles and lowered her head to roll up the patient's sleeve, preparing for the injection...
Ziya moved her hand slightly, and her eyelashes fluttered. Her beautiful big eyes snapped open with a 'click,' startling the nurse so much that she dropped the syringe on the floor.
"What happened? Why are you so..." a doctor nearby, who was discussing the medical plan, scolded the nurse. But he was taken aback as he looked at Ziya, who had opened her eyes and was trying to sit up. He couldn't help but slap his forehead, thinking to himself: How strange, I just checked her and she was in a state of shock; how could she suddenly come around like this?
"Where am I?" Ziya asked in a hoarse voice, bewildered and at a loss.
"This is the Emergency Room. Do you feel anything unusual?" The three doctors and the nurse gathered around her, staring at Ziya as if she were an alien.
