Distance makes everyone busy remembering the good things about each other. As the saying goes, if someone far away is thinking of you, then you will surely dream of that person at night. 0

Ziya dreamed of Severe Cold, who appeared before her with a subtle elegance. In the quiet surroundings, music filled the air, and Ziya felt as light as a swallow, dressed in a snow-white gown like a beautiful bride dancing gracefully to the melody. Severe Cold wore a matching white suit, looking even more handsome and ethereal. His lips curled into an enchanting smile, and Ziya gazed up at him, unable to tear her eyes away from his wise gaze. 0

Ziya nestled tightly in Severe Cold's embrace, the music continuing to swirl around her as white petals floated down from above. It was so beautiful. She held onto Severe Cold as if afraid he might suddenly disappear. 0

Lost in the atmosphere of music, Ziya relied heavily on the warmth from Severe Cold's arms, her eyes half-closed in a dreamy state under his care. Suddenly, she felt emptiness in her arms and hurriedly opened her eyes; Severe Cold was gone. Before her lay a desolate landscape, and the white flowers in the sky had vanished. Instead, vibrant red roses surrounded her, creating a sea of crimson that was as striking as blood. A long red carpet stretched endlessly ahead, and from its direction walked a beautiful bride. 0

The bride Ziya saw was Sun Meng. She noticed that people had gathered around without her realizing it. Ziya stood in the middle of the carpet, looking toward its far end that seemed to lead into infinity. Sun Meng walked slowly toward that endless horizon amidst the blessings of many people. Where was Liang Chao? If there was a bride, there should be a groom too. Confused and anxious, Ziya looked around for Liang Chao. 0

Not seeing Liang Chao anywhere filled her with an ominous feeling. Ziya rushed toward Sun Meng; she needed to tell her that no one awaited her at the end—only a cliff as deep as a valley that would claim her life if she jumped… 0

Sun Meng wore a smile on her face, her eyes filled with happiness as she stared ahead. No matter how much Ziya shouted or pulled at her, Sun Meng stubbornly continued forward. The long wedding dress trailed behind her on the ground when suddenly it dripped with blood—one drop, two drops, three drops… In an instant, the wedding dress turned crimson. Blood… where did it come from? Ziya didn’t know; she followed the trail of blood down to where it flowed from Sun Meng’s neck. 0

No… Ziya stumbled and fell but quickly got back up. She grasped tightly onto Sun Meng’s wedding dress dragging on the ground; it had no resilience against her pull. With a harsh ripping sound, part of the dress tore away in Ziya's fingers while Sun Meng continued walking without looking back… Suddenly, blood gushed forth like a spring from the ground; in the blink of an eye, all the guests vanished, leaving Ziya alone in fear as she looked around and wanted to run… Her legs felt weak as she screamed… 0

With a gasp, Ziya woke up and sat up straight, drenched in sweat with beads of perspiration on her forehead. She looked out the window; pale moonlight seeped through the curtains, casting a hazy glow inside—a stark contrast to the vividness of her dream which felt so real. This dream had been recurring for quite some time; it seemed to have started shortly after returning from D City when she began dreaming about Sun Meng’s wedding. Each time she would see Sun Meng moving further along in this dream. What did this dream mean? 0

Rising from bed, Ziya couldn’t shake off the lingering images from her dream and found herself unable to sleep again. She turned on the wall lamp, flooding the room with light. The computer lay quietly on the desk; if she turned it on, she could see Severe Cold and tell him about her longing for him through video chat. 0

However, lost in thought and hesitating with her fingers hovering over the mouse, she didn’t log into QQ to check; it was only 10:15 PM—she had gone to bed quite early today. The natural rhythm of life had been disrupted since meeting Severe Cold; she longed to return to how things were before but found it hard to let go of that imposing figure in her heart. 0

Finally, Ziya clicked on Severe Cold’s QQ profile; his avatar was gray. He might have logged off or set himself to invisible status. Since their last argument, they hadn’t spoken on the phone either; Ziya had insisted on not logging into QQ and hadn’t chatted with him for quite some time now. 0
Just as Ziya was about to log off, a message from Severe Cold suddenly popped up. "It's impossible between us. The distance is our biggest barrier. It's easy to want to meet, but hard to get along. If there's a next life, I will love and protect you with all my effort." 0

"No... I can tiptoe to close the distance between us. Please don't say that!" Ziya's heart ached. The fear of losing Severe Cold made her forget her pride and self-respect. She hurriedly left him a message, hoping he wouldn't hastily end their long-distance relationship. 0

With a heavy sigh, Ziya felt a sense of loneliness wash over her. She took a tissue from the nightstand to wipe the cold sweat that had begun to bead on her forehead. As the sweat increased, so did her thirst; she craved water. Suddenly, her leg and elbow joints felt weak and painful. She slumped down on the edge of the bed, rolling up the sleeves of her nightgown to check if her elbows were bruised or injured somehow. Otherwise, why would she feel such sudden weakness and pain? 0

As she rolled up her sleeves, Ziya noticed large patches of red spots on her arms. What could this be? She tentatively pressed on the spots but felt no discomfort. Sitting on the edge of the bed in frustration, she sensed that the weakness from her joint pain was easing slightly. She mustered the strength to get up and headed to the living room for some water. 0

After filling a glass with water and turning around, she felt as if the sofa, fish tank, and potted plants in the living room were swaying. Was there an earthquake or something? Ziya steadied herself, realizing she couldn't take another step; otherwise, she would fall... Sure enough, when she took a step forward, she lost her balance and nearly toppled over. In a panic, she grabbed onto a nearby pillar for support, letting out a cold breath as sweat poured down again, soaking her nose. 0

After testing herself for a while, Ziya felt ready to move again and slowly made her way to the bedroom. As she approached the bedroom door, she heard what seemed like a text message notification. Hearing that long-awaited sound made Ziya blush; it had to be a message from Severe Cold since she had set that specific tone just for him. 0

Suppressing her eager joy, she wanted to delay checking the message and savor the happiness it might bring. Lying on her bed with her phone in hand, she eagerly opened the text. 0

"Our distance is too great; perhaps we only have this much fate together. Let's each find peace in our own lives." The message read: Severe Cold. Ziya froze; her phone slipped through her fingers and fell onto the blanket as silent tears began to flow like a small stream down her cheeks. She didn't even think to wipe them away; she just let them flow... Those days spent together in mutual support might have been the happiest time of Ziya's life. 0

Was it her fault? Had her pride hurt him? Severe Cold had repeatedly invited Ziya to his home, but she always refused. They had reached an impasse, and now Severe Cold had finally made up his mind to sever this endless attachment with Ziya. A hollow feeling settled in Ziya's heart as tears blurred her vision; everything before her seemed so unreal. 0

In desperation, Ziya frantically dialed Severe Cold's number, casting aside all pride and self-respect. She wanted to grasp onto him with all her might. When the call connected, however, all she heard was a clear Mandarin prompt: "The number you have dialed is turned off." 0
