Ziya looked at Sun Meng's distressed expression and understood what she meant. Sun Meng had the courage to face any hardships in reality, but asking her to confront an elderly Cancer Patient on the brink of death was a weight Ziya could deeply empathize with. 0

However, the hospital room was indeed cramped. After several inquiries from Liang Chao, the doctor provided a fitting response: they would have to make do for one night since they would be discharged the next day. Could they really let a cancer patient receive IV treatment in the hallway? With four people unable to find a solution, they reluctantly decided to endure for one night. Ziya, Severe Cold, and Zhiqing would rest at a nearby hotel while Liang Chao stayed at the hospital. 0

The already small ward felt even more crowded with two patients and their families caring for them. Reluctantly, Liang Chao arranged for Sun Meng and then went outside to rest on a chair. An elderly nurse kindly brought him a thin blanket, which was only slightly thicker than a towel, but it was better than nothing. Although it was March or April, it was still quite cold at night, especially in the corridor. 0

The family member of the Cancer Patient noticed that the elderly man showed no signs of waking up and seemed somewhat impatient. She leaned forward to glance at the buzzing medical equipment and sighed. 0

"Is your father going to be okay?" Sun Meng asked quietly. She deliberately lowered her voice, fearing that Liang Chao at the door might hear her and scold her. 0

"I don't know. You saw it; after he came out of surgery today, none of us could wake him up even when we shouted. If it weren't for this Heart Monitor still beeping, he might as well be dead," the family member replied with a tone of helplessness, her gaze fixed on the old man's lifeless face. 0

"Then you should rest for a bit! Maybe he'll wake up in the middle of the night," Sun Meng suggested as she turned away from the door, not wanting to hear the oxygen machine gurgling or see the old man's gray face. 0

"Uh, I hope so!" The family member said little else before pulling open the ward door and stepping out. 0

Inside the room were only Sun Meng and the elderly man lying on the bed, barely clinging to life. Liang Chao might have fallen asleep; otherwise, knowing that family member had left, he should have come in to check. 0

Sun Meng usually had no trouble sleeping, but now she couldn't close her eyes. She dared not turn over; if she did, she'd see that lifeless face. So she lay still until her eyelids grew heavy... In a daze, Sun Meng felt something moving in the adjacent bed; her instincts told her it was the patient's family member doing something. 0

Ignoring it, Sun Meng tried to sleep again. The noise from next door grew louder, making her feel frustrated. With an indifferent toss, she opened her eyes but saw nothing—just darkness. Even if she had seen that gray face, it would have confirmed that her eyes were open; yet she saw nothing at all. Feeling puzzled, Sun Meng wanted to reach up and check if her eyes were truly open. 0

Just as she moved slightly, a cold voice seeped into her ears: "It's time... your time has come..." As she listened to this eerie voice, a bone-chilling cold swept over her like a brisk wind brushing against her face—so real. 0

Sun Meng instinctively pulled the blanket tighter around her, curling up within it. It was cold, and that peculiar chill relentlessly seeped into her covers. Something felt off; there should have been some light in this hospital room. When she finally opened her eyes, however, all she saw was darkness, which was utterly baffling. As she pondered this, a faint presence brushed against her face, and Sun Meng strained to see who was so close to her. 0

In her mind, Sun Meng clearly felt that her eyes were open, but when she tried again to blink them open, she realized she had just been dreaming. She had thought about opening her eyes, but it had felt like she had done so. However, when Sun Meng truly opened her eyes, she immediately regretted it. At that moment, right in front of her nose, a pair of almost entirely white pupils stared intently at her. 0

A wave of suffocation washed over her; it felt as if a soft jelly had lodged itself in her throat, rendering her unable to scream. The cold breath of the figure directly in front of her sprayed across Sun Meng's face. She lacked the strength to resist this bizarre sensation and desperately tried to shake off the inexplicable feeling of being trapped, but it was difficult to control her thoughts. 0

The short figure that had been staring at her shifted away with that chilling aura. It didn’t do anything to Sun Meng but floated up instead. Now she could see why there was movement in the adjacent bed. 0

Surrounding the old man’s bed were many indistinct figures. The old man hunched over like a shrimp and exhaled a faint white mist from his mouth while his eyes rolled back… Sun Meng wanted to call out to Liang Chao outside… but the blurry figure seemed to sense her awareness and turned back to glare at her, saying, “Mind your own business… those who should leave will eventually go.” The breath from the figure was cold enough to freeze Sun Meng; its voice was soft yet chillingly penetrative, like a breeze that came and went. 0

Sun Meng lowered her gaze, not daring to meet its eyes. She trembled under the covers, shaking as if lying in a dead person's icy coffin. Who were these people? Sun Meng silently questioned herself as she struggled to close her eyes again. Yet she could still hear the old man swallowing something with a bone-chilling sound. 0

One sound, two sounds, three sounds—the old man's hunched body shook with each noise, pulling at Sun Meng's heartstrings. She had no idea how long this would last. It seemed like the struggle of those from the older generation before death; they fought through life only to wish to escape worldly matters and seek refuge in that legendary paradise. 0

In a daze, Sun Meng saw the old man let out a sigh of relief as if he had been freed from burdens and lay back on the bed with a thud. Everything seemed to return to calmness as the indistinct figures and the old man floated out of the hospital room… 0

In a haze of confusion and whispers, there were sounds of crying and talking at the door… When Sun Meng opened her eyes again, she saw many people in the hospital room. The old man's family surrounded his bed, waiting for something… 0

“Finally awake! We’ve been calling you for ages! Hurry up and get dressed; we’re going out,” Liang Chao said along with Ziya, Zhiqing, and Severe Cold—they all seemed to have been waiting for this moment when Sun Meng would wake up. 0
