Ziya and Sun Meng held their breath, palms sweating as they relied on the dim light of the corridor. They could hardly see the exact location of the stairwell, so they fumbled for their phones and turned on the flashlight mode. A beam of pale white light illuminated the area within their sight. They both swallowed nervously at the sound that echoed from around the corner. Nodding to each other, they suddenly jumped out from their hiding spot and directed their phone flashlights toward the source of the noise. 0

“Damn it! A big rat…” Sun Meng exclaimed in frustration. Ziya quietly wiped the cold sweat from her forehead; it was a scene that was both ridiculous and alarming. Scattered on the ground were empty air freshener bottles and some old newspapers, along with bits of torn paper… How could there be bloodstains on those scraps? Crouching down, Ziya quickly brought her phone closer to examine the torn paper, noticing that the bloodstains seemed to have dried up. 0

“Where did this blood come from?” Ziya felt a chill run down her spine as she stared at the dark stains. 0

“Whose blood is it? Let’s tear off the paper scraps and give them to Liang Chao to send to his friend. We’ll find out if it’s human blood or something else through testing,” Sun Meng thought herself clever, a hint of pride showing on her face. As she spoke, she folded up the stained scraps and tucked them into her pocket. 0

There were still some scattered items on the ground, but they didn’t have time to worry about those. The 14th floor felt entirely different from the others; it was not only cold but also carried an unfamiliar odor that seemed to invade their nostrils. 0

“Hmm… I was just about to say something when I heard hurried footsteps coming from the direction they had arrived. Who could be here at this time? Could it be that…” 0

“Shh!” The two quickly concealed themselves at the junction between the 13th and 14th floors, crouching down until they were completely hidden beneath the stairs of the 14th floor. Unfortunately, from below, they couldn’t see any figures above. They heard a creaking sound as a door opened; it seemed someone had pushed open a nearby office door. 0

“What if we go out?” Sun Meng whispered eagerly, desperate to know who was on the 14th floor. By now, they had turned off their phones, leaving them in complete darkness beneath the stairs. A strange chill enveloped them, likely due to the long absence of residents in this place—just like people said about a lack of warmth… 0

Ziya nodded silently, sensing that whoever had entered one of the rooms hadn’t come back out. They held onto each other cautiously as they carefully made their way up the stairs to the 14th floor, stepping lightly onto the corridor floor. 0

The corridor remained dark as ever; a limited beam of light streamed in from the balcony on their left, illuminating the hallway like a train tunnel. On their right was the elevator they had descended from earlier. The orange-yellow light inside flickered with a soft glow. 0

Liu was consumed by an inexplicable anxiety as she wandered alone in her office, restlessly waiting for an official notice. As for the mysterious disc that had suddenly appeared at home, her gaze shifted towards one person—only he had encountered Zhang Maocai while coming out of a hotel during an interview. 0

Liu, feeling idle, quickly made his way to the place where he used to work, hoping to find some clues that could prove his innocence. Before the incident, several editorial teams were operating on the 14th floor, including him—Lao Ran. 0

As he thought about this, Liu glanced around and noticed no one was present. He hurried toward the elevator, but upon reaching it, he realized that the double elevator was right there on the 14th floor! His heart sank with a jolt of panic. 0

During the adjustment period, the administrative department couldn't arbitrarily demote a manager; they needed to find numerous reasons to convince the affected personnel. As an office director, this position was already coveted, and her tendency to curry favor with those in power made her quite unlikable. Over time, her paranoia had grown. Now seeing the elevator stop at the 14th floor only heightened her suspicion that the administrative department had begun investigating her! 0

Taking the single elevator to the 14th floor, he found it empty. The corridor was dark and silent, which made Liu feel uneasy. Although a hint of anxiety lingered in his mind, he thought it would be better to destroy anything left behind by Lao Ran before the administrative department could investigate. 0

Previously, Liu had pondered that someone must have entered her home beforehand, deliberately trying to let Xu Ziming see something... But who was this person? Why were they targeting her? He turned on his phone to illuminate the doorplate marking the second editorial room. 0

Entering the office filled with dust and a musty smell, Liu noticed that the desk remained untouched in its original position. A thick layer of grime and dust covered its surface, forcing her to lean in for a closer look. 0

The floor was littered with paper scraps and dust accumulated everywhere; each step left a footprint behind. Approaching one of the desks, she brushed away some dust only to have it cling to her palm. The air was thick with choking dust particles as she pulled open a central drawer with all her strength. After rummaging through it for a while, she found nothing but more dust on her hands. 0

At that moment, a faint and ethereal laugh reached her ears. Startled, she spun around and caught a glimpse of a hem disappearing at the doorway. In a rush of adrenaline, she hurried over to check... 0

Li Mingxiang finished his tasks and suddenly remembered the two girls. He quickly dialed their numbers but received a message saying they were out of service area. Puzzled, he wondered why they would be out of service after just parting ways with them moments ago. 0

As she reached the elevator, she noticed that both the even-numbered and odd-numbered elevators were on the 14th floor. How strange, she thought to herself. She quickly pressed the button for the odd-numbered elevator, and soon the red indicator light flickered as it descended to the first floor. 0

Hidden to one side, Ziya and Sun Meng suddenly saw someone rush out of the doorway. The person looked anxious, glancing around but surprisingly not heading towards the elevator; instead, they ran down the hallway towards its end. 0

"Who is she..." Ziya still couldn't clearly see who was running. 0

"It's Liu! Hurry... something's about to happen." The two quickly sprang from their hiding spot and followed Liu in her direction. The sound of chaotic footsteps echoed in the corridor, and hearing the noise behind her, Liu panicked and dashed straight towards the balcony. 0

"Liu..." Ziya exclaimed in shock. The scene before her was even more alarming than when she had seen Liu that day. She shouted while extending her arm, sprinting alongside Sun Meng in an attempt to catch up with Liu. 0
