Ziya anxiously watched the cars and neon lights flash by outside the window, feeling as if time had come to a standstill. She picked up the phone and dialed the number Yuan Ye had left her, but a crisp female voice responded: "The number you have dialed is not in service..." followed by a harsh busy signal.
On the two-meter-wide bed, with a thick mattress and crisp white sheets, two bare bodies were entwined together. Zhang, the Chief Editor, thrust vigorously, while Nana writhed beneath him, her legs wrapping around his waist like creeping vines.
"Mm... faster... I can't take it anymore... harder..." Nana gasped and moaned. Zhang, the Chief Editor, responded like a soldier receiving orders, tilting his head back and thrusting even harder, sweat glistening on his forehead. The red marks left by Nana's nails on his back were vivid like roses.
Just as they were lost in their passionate play, the phone rang unexpectedly. "You jerk, how boring..." Nana pouted, clinging tightly to Zhang. He had no choice but to let the phone ring its tune while he continued to entangle himself with her.
"Alright, stop messing around. If Old Yuan needs me urgently, that would be bad. Let me see what it is," Zhang thought increasingly worriedly, the earlier thoughts instantly disrupted by the ringing phone. He still held some reservations about his old friend Yuan Ye, especially considering Liu Haoming was no easy opponent; his cold insights and approach to matters left Zhang quite impressed.
"Oh come on! What could possibly happen at this hour?" Nana's spoiled voice made anyone listening feel a chill run down their spine.
"Shh, be good..." Zhang raised his plump finger and picked up the phone, but his voice was still breathless from earlier activities. With Nana persistently clinging to him and his heart racing with concern over whether something serious had happened, he glanced at the screen to see it was Liu Haoming calling. He froze for a moment before hurriedly slipping on his shoes and throwing on a shirt.
"Hello..."
………………………………
Zi Anqing heard voices on the line and quickly handed the phone to Liu Haoming. He took it and switched the car to automatic mode, tucking the phone under his ear as he tilted his neck.
"This is Liu Haoming. Where are you?"
"I... I'm at home... something came up... so..." Zhang's voice was clearly flustered, causing Liu Haoming to frown slightly. His expression grew increasingly stern as he tightened his brows and looked ahead.
"Come to the News Agency quickly, there might be a situation."
"Uh... what kind of situation?" Zhang, the Chief Editor, panicked at once. This News Agency was his lifelong effort; he had finally brought in two investors to help establish it. It couldn't afford to face another crisis, especially since each incident required a significant amount of money to resolve.
"Hurry up and come, stop rambling," Liu Haoming said in an irritated tone. Without waiting for a response, he hung up the phone and handed it to his wife sitting behind him. A heavy silence filled the car. Ziya, who had previously been unfamiliar with her parents' friends and colleagues, only learned that Zhang, the Chief Editor, was Liu Haoming's friend after the incident at Lao Ran's house.
The car sped down the road with a whooshing sound. One thing puzzled someone: her parents' phones were all reachable, so why was hers busy? Remembering how Zhou Chen had been in trouble, Ziya recalled that he had been glued to his phone. There must be some secret on his device or relevant messages from that day. Where could her phone be right now? With that thought, she glanced at Anqing.
"Anqing Mama, after Zhou Chen's incident, did you see his grandfather?"
"Yeah... we did. Why do you suddenly ask about that?"
"Oh... it's nothing... um, can I use your phone?" Ziya didn't want to reveal too much of her thoughts just yet, so she deliberately changed the subject, hoping to check her parents' phone to see if it was similar to her own situation.
"Do you want to use your dad's or mine?"
"Yours!"
After receiving Anqing's phone, Ziya pressed the button and was about to enter a number when she noticed that Anqing's phone already had the number she wanted to dial saved in it.
