Qin Nannan followed Liu into the office, which seemed to be empty except for a bald man sitting at a table, staring blankly. He was holding a newspaper, his head bowed low. After entering, Liu casually glanced around, shot an annoyed look at the man, nodded at Qin Nannan, and quietly pointed at him before hurriedly exiting the office. 0

Qin Nannan had never met Lao Ran before; it seemed Liu assumed he and Ziya had already encountered him, so he left without making introductions. This office was a stark contrast to the one they had just seen belonging to a woman; it could only be described as chaotic. Since Qin Nannan entered, Lao Ran had kept his head down, not even glancing at him, which irritated someone who prided himself on his importance. 0

Qin Nannan deliberately dropped his backpack onto the desk with a heavy thud. Lao Ran seemed to sense someone had entered the office and slowly lifted his head, placing the newspaper haphazardly on a nearby shelf. His expression was strange, and his movements were slow and mechanical, as if he were burdened by an immense weight. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere. 0

"Is there something you need?" Lao Ran's cold and gloomy tone sent shivers down Qin Nannan's spine. 0

"Um, Liu brought me here; you must be Teacher Ran!" Qin Nannan said, shrinking his neck slightly and extending his right hand politely. 0

"Yes! Hello!" Lao Ran immediately grasped Qin Nannan's hand, sending a chill through him that made him flinch inwardly. Wow! Such cold hands! He quickly withdrew his hand. As he exchanged glances with this peculiar old man, Lao Ran deliberately avoided meeting his eyes. 0

Lao Ran appeared relatively young but was already balding. Under the light, his scalp glimmered faintly. The back of his head resembled that of a child with a ring of sparse hair neatly lying flat against it. 0

The two remained silent for a long time. Qin Nannan felt awkward, constantly rubbing his hands and glancing around aimlessly. Lao Ran mechanically sat down on a chair beside the desk and resumed reading the newspaper he had been holding. 0

"Teacher Ran, you need to tell me what I should learn; this..." Qin Nannan was growing increasingly bored, having scanned every corner of the office. He wanted to find Ziya but felt it inappropriate to leave this strange old man alone. 0

"What do you want to learn? I'll teach you that!" Lao Ran's icy tone left Qin Nannan momentarily speechless. 0

This person must naturally be quiet! Qin Nannan thought to himself. He took out his phone to check on Ziya's situation. Just as he dialed and held the phone to his ear, Lao Ran suddenly stood up and unexpectedly snatched the phone from him. 0

"Don't make that call; I know what you're doing. Don't tell anyone..." Qin Nannan was taken aback by the sudden theft of his phone, feeling an inexplicable anger rise within him as he noticed Lao Ran's expression—both mysterious and eerie. A chill swept over him. 0

"Don't be like that, Teacher Ran. Just give me your phone; I won't make any calls," Qin Nannan hurriedly reached out for Lao Ran's phone. 0

"She's here, did you know? Right here with us, shh!" Lao Ran's bizarre and erratic words felt unsettling, causing Qin Nannan to shudder in fear as she quickly retreated towards the door. 0

Seeing Qin Nannan trying to leave, Lao Ran dashed to the entrance and grabbed her, his voice turning into a strange, almost comical tone. "She's here, you can't go..." He finished with a creepy grin, watching as Qin Nannan pressed against the wall, too frightened to move. 0

Qin Nannan felt desperate and thought to herself: Damn it, what Ziya said last night was true! Oh my god! Without further ado, she flung open the office door and sprinted away. 0

"Is this how we arrange it?" Ziya hadn't expected her comment to provoke such a strong reaction from Li Mingxiang, who rushed off to the restroom. So when she saw Li Mingxiang approaching, she wisely chose not to mention the earlier topic and instead took the initiative to familiarize herself with the tasks at hand while humbly asking Teacher Li for guidance. 0

"Ghost! Bang!" Qin Nannan shouted loudly as she burst through the door, startling everyone in the office. They all stood up in surprise, staring at the rather handsome man. 0

"Are you okay?" Ziya exclaimed in shock, standing up and whispering a question. She quickly apologized to the staff who were giving her odd looks. "Sorry! He loves to joke." Everyone except Li Mingxiang silently returned to their work, as if Qin Nannan had never entered. 0

"I'm not joking; it's real..." Qin Nannan explained softly to Ziya but quickly fell silent upon seeing Li Mingxiang present. 0

"It's fine; you two chat. I'll be right back," Li Mingxiang said expressionlessly before stepping out of the office. 0

Li Mingxiang's position was right by the door, a good distance from their desks. Once she left, Qin Nannan lowered her voice again and said to Ziya, "Lao Ran is acting strange; you should check on him." 0

"In what way?" Ziya continued working without pausing at Qin Nannan's words. She lowered her voice as she spoke back while finishing up the layout assigned by Teacher Li. 0

"His expression is really odd, and then..." Just then, the door suddenly swung open, revealing a bald head that made both of them feel uneasy. A cold face appeared before Ziya and the speaking Qin Nannan. 0

"Young man, here! Your phone." Lao Ran said casually, glancing at Ziya, who was also looking at him. Their eyes met for a few seconds, and Ziya felt a chill from the cold gaze. At that moment, Li Mingxiang entered the room. She glanced at Lao Ran and nodded lightly in greeting before walking straight into the inner office. She picked up a stack of carbon paper and gently placed it beneath the fax machine. 0

"Thank you, Ran Teacher..." Qin Nannan hurriedly took the phone, her voice trembling slightly. 0

"You're welcome. Now that you're here, don't leave; focus on your studies," Lao Ran said with a strange smile, muttering something incomprehensible. 0

Ziya stopped her work and stood up to address Lao Ran. "Ran Teacher, do you live in the News Agency dormitory behind the back gate?" Lao Ran paused for a moment, his melancholic eyes quickly scanning the newly arrived intern before he lowered his head awkwardly. It seemed he wanted to say something but hesitated as he glanced at the people inside the office. 0

"I have to go now; you all keep busy..." He humbly nodded to everyone in the office, backing away while pulling the door handle to exit. This left Qin Nannan shaking her head in frustration, turning her gaze toward Ziya, who also looked puzzled. 0

"Is there something wrong with Li Teacher's Ran Teacher?" Ziya asked casually while organizing a stack of carbon paper. 0

"He's an honest person, diligent in his work without any tricks up his sleeve. Sigh! The more straightforward someone is, the more they suffer," Li Mingxiang said with a helpless sigh, her tone sympathetic. 0

"Is he feeling wronged or something?" Ziya still didn't understand Li Mingxiang's hint, which only deepened her concern. 0

"There are some things and some people that it's better for you not to inquire about, lest you bring trouble upon yourselves," Li Mingxiang hesitated for a moment before delivering this shocking statement to Ziya. 0
