On the third day after Xu Lei left, Sister Sun fell ill. The sickness hit her like a mountain collapsing, and she suddenly looked several years older, frail and worn. 0

The symptoms were strange and varied, making it difficult for the doctor to prescribe her any effective medication. 0

At one moment, she complained of a headache; at another, it was tinnitus or a ringing in her ears. It felt as if there were a thousand cicadas buzzing in her head, rhythmically singing, sometimes high-pitched, sometimes low, shifting from one side to the other. 0

Xu Lei had not returned yet. 0

In the end, she spent hundreds of dollars and came back with a large bag filled with black, red, and green pills that looked like cattle medicine when spread out in her palm. 0

Sister Sun frowned at the colorful pills in her hand. Just looking at them made her feel nauseous. But knowing that not taking the medicine could worsen her condition, she forced herself to hold the pills in her mouth and swallowed some water. 0

The pills wouldn’t go down easily; some dissolved instantly, bitter and hard to swallow, causing her to vomit everything in her stomach. 0

"I can't take these pills," Sister Sun refused the doctor's prescription. "Bring me a comb." 0

Wang Ce went to fetch the comb and handed it to Sister Sun. 0

"Help me a bit," Sister Sun said, feeling completely drained of energy. With Wang Ce's assistance, she leaned against the headboard while he used the comb to brush her hair. 0

As Wang Ce brushed through her hair slowly, Sister Sun felt much better; the headache subsided and the ringing in her ears faded away. 0

"Is Xu Yan still obedient?" Sister Sun suddenly wanted to see the child. Before she got sick, she hadn’t been able to take care of Xu Yan properly, and now she wanted to check if he was behaving well. 0

Wang Ce went to bring the child in. 0

As soon as they reached the doorway, the child burst into loud cries. No matter how Wang Ce tried to soothe him, he continued to wail. It was clear that the child did not want to come inside; as soon as he turned away, he stopped crying altogether. 0

Sister Sun was very angry, feeling frustrated as she cursed, "Damn little brat, your mother is still alive, stop whining!" 0

"Wang Ce, the child is still small; he just isn't used to the smell of medicine." 0

Hearing Wang Ce say this, Sister Sun thought it made sense. If adults couldn't stand the smell, it was likely that a child wouldn't either. She forced a smile and said, "Then don't bring him in here. Just take care of him properly." 0

Wang Ce settled the child and hurried over when he heard Sister Sun shouting from inside. 0

Sister Sun said, "I won't take these medicines anymore. Throw them in the trash. Go buy a few things from the pharmacy like I told you." 0

Wang Ce discarded the medicine and followed her instructions, buying various types of medication—topical, adhesive, oral, and ointments. 0

After dozing off for a while, Sister Sun woke up slightly and began to worry. What if the child grew up to like Wang Ce and didn't want her anymore? 0

She drifted in and out of sleep, feeling very tired. 0

Wang Ce mentioned that the doctor at the pharmacy had specially increased the dosage of the sleeping medication to help her sleep better since her illness was caused by lack of sleep. 0

While being able to sleep was certainly a good thing, it was frustrating to feel like she was only half-asleep. 0

In her drowsy state, Sister Sun felt as if Xu Lei had returned. 0

In a haze, she thought she saw Xu Lei kissing someone. She struggled to open her eyes wider to see clearly and realized it was just the clothes rack in the room that she mistook for Xu Lei. After a while, she noticed the door opening slowly, just like in that nightmare she had when she dreamt of a door creaking open silently. 0

But there was no one outside. There wasn't even a breeze; the door just opened in such an eerie manner. 0

Sister Sun thought to herself that she must be having another nightmare again. 0

Strangely, every time she had a nightmare, her mind was particularly clear, as if she were seeing a ghost in broad daylight. However, her entire body felt paralyzed, her heart racing with fear, then sinking heavily. This unique thrill of terror was something she only experienced while watching horror movies. 0

But when she watched horror films, she was fine. Now, she was sick, and sick people couldn't handle fright. 0

The door opened. 0

To Sister Sun, it looked like a still painting. 0

Suddenly, amidst the quiet atmosphere, the sound of a child's giggle broke through. Then a pair of chubby little hands reached out from the doorway. The child crawled quickly, as if summoned by some force, heading straight for her bedside. 0

Sister Sun looked at the child and was certain that this child was not Xu Yan. 0

The child crawled to the edge of the bed and suddenly disappeared. 0

Sister Sun shook her head vigorously, trying to wake herself up, but it was futile. The more she shook, the heavier her head felt. 0

Abruptly, she sensed the blanket covering her move slightly. It was being tugged in one direction. She widened her eyes to see something burrowing into the blanket at the foot of the bed. Then she heard the giggling again—was it the child laughing? 0

Sister Sun opened her mouth to call out Wang Ce. However, the sound only swirled in her throat; it was merely a shout within her consciousness. In reality, not a single sound escaped her lips. 0

Next, she felt something crawling on her stomach. A piercing pain spread through her, as if a hand were tearing at her belly, trying to burrow inside. 0

The pain made her convulse all over, curling up like a shrimp as she rolled around on the bed. With all her strength, she threw off the covers and was horrified to see a child covered in blood, long fingernails digging into her abdomen— 0

"Ah..." 0

Sister Sun screamed desperately as she rolled off the bed. Someone rushed in quickly and grabbed her tightly, asking urgently, "Sister Sun, what happened?" 0

Xu Lei had indeed returned. Dressed in a sharp suit, he looked weary from travel, yet his handsome face bore the same unwavering determination as always. 0

Xu Lei was truly a remarkable figure, strikingly handsome and exuding the same charm he had in his youth. The passage of time had only deepened his maturity and allure. 0

Sister Sun clung to his arm, her brow furrowed in pain as she buried her head deeply in the crook of his elbow, unwilling for him to see her sickly appearance. 0

"I'm fine, just a bad cold," she said weakly, not daring to lift her head. 0

"A bad cold isn't a big deal; you just need to rest well," Xu Lei replied, wrinkling his nose at the strong smell of medicine in the room. "What do you want to eat?" 0

"Now that you're back, I feel great. I don't want anything," she said. 0

Xu Lei looked at Sister Sun and noticed how much older she seemed after just a few days apart. She now resembled a weary woman in her fifties, her eyes vacant and her forehead dull, her complexion far from healthy. 0

"Then you should rest well. I'm going to take a shower." 0

"Okay." 0

Sister Sun wished for Xu Lei to leave quickly; only when he was gone could she gather herself, comb her hair, and pull herself together. She wanted him to think she was fine, just dealing with a minor issue. She was genuinely afraid he would leave her alone to stay at the company. 0

Xu Lei went to take a shower. 0

Sister Sun began to comb her hair. 0

To her surprise, the comb was quite effective; after just a few strokes, her head felt less heavy and remarkably clear. It was as if someone had given her an invigorating boost of energy, awakening her spirit and revitalizing her completely. 0

Perhaps it was because Xu Lei had returned. 0

Sister Sun sighed, reflecting on the countless men she had encountered in her life. In comparison, only Xu Lei truly mattered to her. 0

It was Xu Lei who had captured her heart, prompting her to plot against Coral. 0

Thinking of Coral stirred something within her—a vague feeling she couldn't quite identify. Whether it was guilt or something else entirely, she couldn't say for sure. 0

Xu Lei was Sister Sun's remedy. 0

He had come back from his business trip, and with astonishing determination, she had risen from her sickbed. 0

Sister Sun stepped out of the bedroom and called out several times for Wang Ce, but there was no response. Puzzled, she made her way to the bathroom. 0

Inside, Xu Lei was taking a shower. 0

The sound of water splashing filled the air, but amidst that noise, Sister Sun suddenly heard laughter. 0

The laughter came from the bathroom. 0

Sister Sun knew Xu Lei was showering alone; how could there be laughter? Unless someone else was in the bathroom—who could that be? 0

Wang Ce wasn't there, and the child was also absent. 0

The child could be said to be sleeping. 0

Wang Ce was in the bathroom— 0

Thinking of Wang Ce in the bathroom, Sister Sun couldn't remain calm. She rushed, stumbling toward the bathroom. 0

Bang—The bathroom door swung open. 0

Xu Lei was drying his hair with a towel, surprised to see Sister Sun, who looked weak and almost unable to stand due to her illness. 0

"Where's Wang Ce?" 0

"Are you okay? Didn't Wang Ce go to the supermarket?" Xu Lei set down the towel, making sure his waist towel wouldn't fall off, and hurriedly stepped forward to support Sister Sun. "Why did you come out when you're sick?" 0

Wait! She had clearly heard someone talking and laughing in the bathroom just a moment ago. Sister Sun paused, looking suspiciously into the bathroom, wondering if someone might be hiding behind the door. 0

"What are you doing?" Xu Lei thought Sister Sun seemed dazed and suspected she might have a fever. He reached out to touch her forehead; it was cold, not like someone with a fever. 0

"Xu Lei, are you hiding something from me?" 0

"What do you mean?" Xu Lei felt that Sister Sun was seriously ill and babbling nonsense. 0

"Was there someone with you in the bathroom just now..." The rest of her sentence remained unspoken; it was clear she didn't trust Xu Lei, which led to all her doubts. 0

"You need to take your medicine." Xu Lei half-dragged, half-supported her to sit on the sofa, then went to get some pills, pouring them into his palm. He handed her a glass of water and said, "Take your medicine." 0

"Medicine..." Sister Sun looked at the pills and then at Xu Lei, pondering: This medicine probably has issues. Given the voices she had just heard, Xu Lei didn't dare explain clearly; taking this medicine might just help them. 0

"Take your medicine." Xu Lei forcibly placed the pills into Sister Sun's mouth and then poured a glass of water down her throat. 0

"Cough... cough..." Sister Sun's chin was drenched, and her collar was soaked. She trembled as she grasped Xu Lei's arm, gasping for breath. "You... you want to kill me, don't you?" 0

"Why would I want to kill you? Killing you would be too easy. I want to watch you die slowly; that's far more entertaining," Xu Lei gritted his teeth, enunciating each word carefully. "Now that you're scared, think about how you treated Coral back then." 0

"You know everything?" 0

Xu Lei sighed. "If you want to keep something a secret, don't do it in the first place. You revealed everything while you were talking in your sleep." 0

"I... talked in my sleep..." 0

"Yes, just half a month after we got married, you started talking in your sleep, begging Coral to spare your life." 0

"That long ago, and you could endure it..." Sister Sun felt utterly hopeless, increasingly convinced that the medicine Xu Lei had given her was poison, already coursing through her veins and affecting her organs. Perhaps in the next moment, she would succumb to its effects. 0

"Of course, a gentleman's revenge is never too late. Why should a woman make things difficult for another woman? How you treated Coral back then, I will repay you tenfold," Xu Lei sneered, glancing at Sister Sun slumped on the sofa. "I want to see you die slowly; I want to witness your utter despair." 0

At that moment, Wang Ce walked in from outside. 0

"She... was also involved in the conspiracy to poison me?" 0
