Ding Li felt that something was wrong.
The problems began when Ye Chenfeng left her alone in this vast, sparsely populated Vocational University. She was suspicious of two people: Ye Chenfeng and Chen Peiling.
At the same time, a simulated story began to take shape in her mind.
Ye Chenfeng had once liked her, but that was before he met Chen Peiling.
Now that he had Chen Peiling, it was natural for him not to continue liking or loving her. Yet, in reality, she still existed in Ye Chenfeng's memory; she lived half a Purple City away from his school and had even been to his home.
Ye Chenfeng's parents knew her, Ding Li, as their son's girlfriend.

There were many ways to make her disappear.
Ye Chenfeng was clever and calculating; he didn't want people to call him a modern-day Chen Shimei. He had to choose the best method that would serve both purposes against himself.
Chen Peiling mentioned that her uncle was at Four Hospitals and suggested that she might have other relatives at this Vocational University. Then, she arranged for two female students to tell scary stories nearby, deliberately letting Ding Li overhear them, creating psychological pressure that could lead her to act irrationally.
The school arranged for a doctor to conduct an examination, and the results naturally indicated that she had depression.
With these thoughts in mind, Ding Li began to hate Ye Chenfeng. She planned to pack her things and rush back to Guhua County overnight, vowing never to return to Purple City and promising to forget Ye Chenfeng along with everything related to him.
Once Ding Li had this idea, she proactively contacted Ye Chenfeng, telling him she was fine and even deliberately set a time for their next meeting.
Packing up was simple; for larger items like bedding that she couldn't take all at once, she stuffed a few personal belongings into a bag and walked out of the dormitory. Unfortunately, just as she reached the door, the shuttle arrived. Without hesitation, Ding Li got on the bus, specified her destination, and sat down to doze off.
Ye Chenfeng sensed something was wrong with Ding Li. He hung up the phone and rushed over to the Vocational University without delay.
The campus of Vocational University was quiet, and both teachers and students let out a sigh of relief. They had finally sent Ding Li, who was suffering from severe depression, away for treatment. The destination was Purple City Fourth Hospital.
Ye Chenfeng arrived a moment too late.
"How could you all casually decide someone's fate?" he exclaimed angrily, trembling as he pointed his finger, unsure of whom to blame.
Purple City Fourth Hospital! This must have something to do with Chen Peiling; she had mentioned that her uncle worked at Four Hospitals.
Unable to catch the vehicle that took Ding Li away, Ye Chenfeng hurriedly contacted Chen Peiling.
He called her phone, but no one answered, and the call automatically disconnected. Ye Chenfeng continued to dial, growing increasingly frantic.
But the worrying news came true.
Chen Peiling was missing.
Back at school, Ye Chenfeng asked everyone he encountered about Chen Peiling, but those he questioned shook their heads, claiming not to know her.
It was impossible; a living person couldn't just vanish in the school without anyone recognizing her. Ye Chenfeng rushed to the library, where fortunately the librarian was locking up. It was already time to close, and he needed to secure the doors before heading back to the student dormitory for some rest.
Ye Chenfeng asked if the librarian knew Chen Peiling.
The librarian's hand trembled, causing a set of keys to clatter to the ground with a sharp sound.
Ye Chenfeng noticed the change in the librarian's expression; his body shook slightly in response.
The librarian's name was Ye Feng.
Ye Feng said that Chen Peiling was indeed Senior Sister, and she had already died, having jumped from the top of the library, landing right where Ye Chenfeng was now standing. He also mentioned that if you didn't believe it, there were still traces of blood in the cracks of the stones.
Startled, Ye Chenfeng jumped back and looked up at the darkened top of the library. When he returned his gaze, Ye Feng had vanished; he had left in a hurry.
Ye Chenfeng felt helpless and useless. Recently, he had been busy with other matters and hadn't been able to fully comprehend The Ghost-Quaking Scripture, leaving many pages unread. Feeling at a loss, he thought about Ding Li being in danger, which made him anxious and uneasy.
He shared this with his roommates in the dormitory.
Su Bei, Shen Binghan, and Qin Keqing all agreed to accompany him to take a look.
With the help of his roommates, Ye Chenfeng no longer felt alone. The four of them sneaked out before the school closed at ten o'clock and headed straight for Purple City Fourth Hospital.
Ye Chenfeng felt compelled to go; he lacked the confidence to face the ghosts of Purple City on his own. Now that Ding Li had gone missing, he shared what he had learned about Ye Feng and Chen Peiling during their encounter at the library.
The three of them widened their eyes and gaped at Ye Chenfeng as if they had seen a ghost.
"What’s wrong? Don’t scare me like that."
Su Bei, with a serious expression, focused intently on Ye Chenfeng and said, "Ye Feng and Chen Peiling were a couple; they met in the library..." He hesitated, unsure whether to continue.
Shen Binghan chimed in, "Are you scared? If you're scared, let me continue—Ye Feng and Chen Peiling were truly a match made in heaven. All the teachers at school thought highly of them. But soon after, someone from Ye Feng's family came and scolded Chen Peiling, even telling her that Ye Feng wanted to marry his girlfriend. That very night, Chen Peiling jumped from the top of the library."
Hearing them talk about how Chen Peiling was really dead made Ye Chenfeng shake his phone and say, "How is that possible? I just tried calling her; although she didn’t answer, it did go through."
Qin Keqing sighed and said, "Of course it went through; Ye Feng recharged her phone for two and a half years during a promotional event."
A chill crept up from Ye Chenfeng's tailbone to the back of his neck. He shrank his shoulders and asked, "So, is Ye Feng married to his girlfriend now?"
Shen Binghan, Su Bei, and Qin Keqing all replied in unison, "He’s dead."
Ye Chenfeng was stunned, then burst into exaggerated laughter. "Hahaha, you guys are such jokers! Don't scare me like that. I saw him lock the library door with my own eyes, and he personally told me about Chen Peiling."
"I think we should skip the Four Hospitals tonight. Can we not be brave and just cancel?" Qin Keqing said with a frown.
Shen Binghan nodded in agreement. "Tonight feels too eerie."
Ye Chenfeng felt like they were playing a prank on him; he still couldn't believe what they said about Chen Peiling and Ye Feng.
Chen Peiling had gone to school with him and to the barbecue stand—Ding Li said she wasn't human, and the barbecue owner claimed to have seen Chen Peiling.
It was all a mess.
Su Bei suddenly had a realization and looked at Ye Chenfeng with disdain. "Ye Chenfeng, Ye Feng committed suicide at nine o'clock in the library. He was the librarian, but that was a long time ago. The library closes at nine-thirty; it was his routine. So, whoever you saw as Ye Feng was either not human or a ghost. Or maybe you've already heard about Ye Feng and Chen Peiling's story and are just trying to scare us here?"
The taxi was booked by Qin Keqing.
The driver, hearing the older kids tell ghost stories at that moment, reminded them, "Don't talk about people during the day or ghosts at night."
Ye Chenfeng thought the driver believed in spirits; he noticed a string of talismans hanging in the driver's cabin, including ancient coins and an exquisite charm pouch.
The driver also noticed Ye Chenfeng looking at those items and joked, "When you're out and about, anything strange could happen. So I hope these things my friend helped me find keep me safe!"
Su Bei, Shen Binghan, and Qin Keqing all silently glanced at those items.
Ye Chenfeng knew that what they were talking about couldn't be false.
The misunderstanding between them stemmed from mutual suspicion, each thinking the other was trying to scare them. However, the truth was, he had never heard any stories about Ye Feng and Chen Peiling.
Qin Keqing felt that tonight was too eerie, and the pitch-black night was certainly not suitable for exploration. She insisted on turning back and even paid double for the fare. Everyone agreed to return, except for Ye Chenfeng, who hesitated.
In the end, he was forcibly escorted back to the school by the three of them.
Once back in the dormitory, the first thing Ye Chenfeng did was delete Chen Peiling's phone number. Then he continuously dialed Ding Li's number, but her phone was turned off.
Su Bei, Qin Keqing, and Shen Binghan had all fallen asleep.
Ye Chenfeng was still deep in thought about what had happened with Chen Peiling and Ding Li.
If Chen Peiling was a ghost, then Ding Li's words would hold some truth. But did Su Bei and the others really need to scare themselves? Besides, Ye Feng had also mentioned that Chen Peiling died by jumping off a building.

Unable to sleep, Ye Chenfeng went to shake Su Bei awake.

A chill ran through Ye Chenfeng. He actually had a good impression of Chen Peiling, but he never expected her to be—
Su Bei continued to mumble in a dreamlike state, "Her uncle wanted to break this legendary madness curse, so he became a psychiatrist."
Ye Chenfeng had nothing to say. He crossed his arms and continued to listen as Su Bei said, "People with a history of mental illness cannot handle stress. Chen Peiling was triggered by Ye Feng's incident and suffered an early mental breakdown, jumping off a building."
Su Bei was too tired; her body swayed and she fell asleep in a curled position.
Ye Chenfeng had to help cover her with a blanket before returning to his own bed, where he opened The Ghost-Quaking Scripture to continue his research.
The words in The Ghost-Quaking Scripture grew smaller and smaller until they became a blur of black—his phone vibrated, shaking him from his drowsiness. He grabbed the phone and saw a familiar number on the screen. It was 11:30 PM. He answered, asking, "Who is it?"
The other party seemed to hesitate. After a few seconds, a reply came: "It's me."
Hearing the voice, Ye Chenfeng was startled; the phone slipped from his hand and fell to the ground. He jumped up in shock, causing the entire bed to shake. Su Bei, who had been lying beneath him, cursed loudly, "Ye Chenfeng, don't you have a girlfriend? What are you messing around for?"
Ye Chenfeng was jolted awake. The phone had indeed fallen on the floor, the screen cracking with spiderweb-like fractures. When Su Bei heard that his phone had dropped, she grumbled as she got out of bed to pick it up and handed it back to him before yawning and going back to sleep.
Ye Chenfeng took the phone but suddenly hesitated to look at the screen. He was afraid of what he might see—
