Ma Yan shrugged off the incident of her phone falling into the toilet. "It’s just a phone," she said, telling Ye Chenfeng and Shen Binghan to go rest in her room while she would make do with a nap in the shared living room.
"You have no idea that my phone is brand new? It's an Apple iPhone 5."
Ma Yan, who had already turned to leave, paused at this remark. With a scoff, she turned back to mock, "You must have bought a knockoff! Are you really expecting my little brother to compensate you for a cheap imitation that fell into the toilet?"
"Knockoff? Who told you mine is a knockoff! I think you’re the one who’s a knockoff, a discarded version that everyone else has tired of." The tall woman retorted sharply, hands on her hips, refusing to back down.
Fuming with anger, Ma Yan stepped forward and yanked the tall woman's hair, cursing, "Don’t think I don’t know what you did during the day, bringing people into my room and making a mess. That crumpled paper all over the place? That was your doing, wasn’t it? You have the nerve to ask someone to pay for something nobody wants."
The tall woman was furious as well. In retaliation, she grabbed Ma Yan's clothes and tore them open, exposing her underneath. Ye Chenfeng and Shen Binghan were taken aback, their hearts racing as they caught an unexpected glimpse.
This was their first time witnessing such a scene—women fighting bare-skinned, pulling hair and tearing clothes. The atmosphere was charged with heat as onlookers laughed coldly, as if watching a circus act.
The tall woman had the upper hand, pinning Ma Yan down and swiftly removing her underwear. Ye Chenfeng and Shen Binghan were at a loss; they wanted to help Ma Yan but hesitated, worried about making things worse given her state of undress.
The two women rolled around in front of the two young men with little regard for privacy, wrestling from the bathroom into the living room and back again. They were equally matched fighters, hair disheveled and bodies marked with numerous red scratches.
Ye Chenfeng and Shen Binghan were wide-eyed, astonished by the fierce brawl before them. Was it true that long nails were meant for fighting?
As the two women continued their fierce struggle without yielding an inch, Ye Chenfeng and Shen Binghan decided they could no longer stay. Taking advantage of the chaos, they quietly made their way to the door.
"Hey there, you two fresh faces trying to sneak out?" A woman in a spaghetti strap nightgown approached them. Her curves swayed enticingly as she walked closer.
Ye Chenfeng glanced at Shen Binghan.
Shen Binghan clasped his hands together in prayer. "Amitabha, Benefactor, are you looking to spar with Little Monk?"
"Hey! I didn't expect the little master to be so knowledgeable. Do you have this?" The Strap Dress Woman gestured as if counting money, her provocative gaze unabashedly fixed on Shen Binghan. In her eyes, this young man was quite appealing; although he seemed a bit foolish, he had his charming qualities.
"Benefactor, the Little Monk's fortune is lost. But even without the fortune, the Little Monk has plenty of capital. As long as Benefactor is willing, I can make you feel incredible," Shen Binghan replied.
"Oh my, such confidence! I want to see what you can do to make me feel incredible," she teased.
The Strap Dress Woman reached out to pinch Shen Binghan's chin, but he skillfully dodged her hand and maintained his stance, saying, "If you want to spar with the Little Monk, you need to negotiate with my manager and pay a sparring fee before we decide whether to start."
Upon hearing Shen Binghan's words about the Little Monk, the Strap Dress Woman paused for a moment before bursting into exaggerated laughter. She pointed at Ma Yan, who was pinned to the ground by the Tall Woman, and said, "Ma Yan is really something! Flirting with a little monk and talking about managers—hahaha..."
Ye Chenfeng listened to Shen Binghan's words in shock. He had always thought of Shen Binghan as a simpleton from the mountains. He never expected that after a little hint about being a star's manager on their way here, this foolish boy would position himself as one.
The Little Monk truly had talent; wanting to flirt with girls and needing a manager for negotiations was indeed absurd.
The Strap Dress Woman laughed uncontrollably, her laughter somewhat eerie and inexplicable. It was as if she had been hit in a ticklish spot and couldn't stop. Meanwhile, Shen Binghan remained unfazed, his hands pressed together in prayer. Although he wasn't chanting anything audible, his lips were moving.
The two fighting women and those watching were all stunned by the Strap Dress Woman's manic laughter.
The fighters got up from the ground while those observing stepped forward to stop her but continued laughing heartily.
Smart Ye Chenfeng realized that the problem lay with Shen Binghan. He must have used some trick that made the Strap Dress Woman laugh uncontrollably; if this continued, she would be in trouble.
"You foolish boy, stop it! If this goes on, she might die," Ye Chenfeng urgently pulled Shen Binghan aside while speaking.
"She is a bad tiger," Shen Binghan coldly glanced at the Strap Dress Woman and sighed heavily. "Never mind, this place isn't suitable for us; it's better we leave. The air outside is fresh."
As Shen Binghan opened the door to step outside, the Strap Dress Woman's laughter abruptly ceased. Stopping her laughter, she began to foam at the mouth and rolled her eyes before fainting.
In an instant, the naked woman disregarded her clothes and rushed to save the woman in the tank top, pinching her acupoint, fetching water, and creating a chaotic scene.
Shen Binghan looked up at the pitch-black night sky and sighed, "I understand now why Master chose to hide in the mountains. I realize that those women traveled thousands of miles to find him; it turns out Master has his own extraordinary qualities."
Ye Chenfeng did not grasp the meaning behind Shen Binghan's words as they walked out of their shared apartment and down the stairs. The street was quiet, devoid of the daytime clamor, leaving an eerie stillness. A mouse squeaked as it emerged from a nearby drain, scurrying toward a trash bin in search of food.
"What is your zodiac sign?" Ye Chenfeng asked.
"Rat."
"Me too. Since Master is unsure of my birth date, he decided to consider the moment he found me as my birthday. I am a little rat." His eyes sparkled with complex emotions as he gazed at the mouse, unable to resist moving closer.
Ye Chenfeng realized that Little Monk was about to lose his mind, staring blankly at him. A shout from behind startled both him and Shen Binghan, who were heading toward the trash bin. They turned to see Ma Yan, fully dressed, waving at them.
Ma Yan had a fantastic figure, and her alluring curves lingered in Ye Chenfeng's mind. Even with her clothes on, those images remained vividly etched in his thoughts.
"You two shouldn't leave; all the sisters hope you'll stay," she said.
Ye Chenfeng actually wished to stay because there was nowhere else to go at that moment. They could only wait until tomorrow to find the beautiful woman who needed help and explain what had happened before they could proceed with their next plan to find Su Bei at Men'er Gou.
Shen Binghan replied, "No, we should find another place to stay for the night."
Ma Yan came downstairs with an apologetic smile. "I'm really sorry for putting you in an awkward position."
Ye Chenfeng said to Ma Yan, "It's fine. I just wanted to suggest that you keep your distance from them and find a cleaner environment."
"Do you think we are unclean?" Ma Yan stopped in her tracks, looking disappointed as a flicker of sadness crossed her eyes.
Shen Binghan clasped her hands together. "Sister, have you found any leads on what we were looking into?"
"Maybe!" Ma Yan seemed prepared as she pulled out a note she had been holding and handed it to Ye Chenfeng. "You can go to the address on this; it's where they live. You should be able to find them."
Ye Chenfeng took the note, glancing at his watch—it was already eleven at night. Even if they wanted to search now, it was too late. They would have to wait until tomorrow. Shen Binghan was reluctant to stay at Ma Yan's place, so the two of them had to come up with another plan.
Ma Yan didn’t insist on keeping Ye Chenfeng and Shen Binghan there. She watched them walk away, shaking her head with a sigh before heading back inside.
"She's a good woman; why does it have to be like this?" Ye Chenfeng lamented with a sigh.
Shen Binghan replied, "From the moment a person is born, their fate is determined; anything is possible."
"Let’s go."
Not far from Ma Yan's place was a large area designated for relocation.
In the relocation zone, there were still many houses that hadn’t been demolished yet.
Though they looked dilapidated and seemed ready to collapse, they wouldn’t fall immediately. Ye Chenfeng and Shen Binghan temporarily took refuge in one of the relatively intact low buildings.
The empty room was occasionally visited by mice and cockroaches scurrying around.
Ye Chenfeng particularly disliked cockroaches.
However, Shen Binghan watched them with interest, tearing pieces from her steamed bun and tossing them for the insects to eat.
After playing around for a while, Shen Binghan listened as Ye Chenfeng talked about his family, sharing stories about his beloved grandmother. Thinking of her own background made his nose tingle with emotion. After chatting for a bit, they both grew tired and curled up to sleep.
In this desolate and particularly chilly place, Ye Chenfeng found it hard to fall asleep peacefully for a long time.
Seeing this, Shen Binghan suggested he recite a certain scripture. It felt somewhat comforting, and soon he was overwhelmed by drowsiness—he couldn’t resist it.
Ye Chenfeng fell into a dream.
He found himself engulfed in darkness, where a pair of green glowing eyes were watching him intently. He felt terrified and ran away, but then he heard a sharp cat's meow—the green glow chased after him.
In a panic, he flailed his arms and legs, drenched in sweat until Shen Binghan called him awake.
Ye Chenfeng told Shen Binghan about his nightmare. The green glow was large and frightening, and he could still hear the cat's cries.
“A cat catching a mouse means you’re the mouse; dreaming of a cat isn’t a good omen,” Shen Binghan remarked.
Shen Binghan, however, seemed unfazed; he could sleep anywhere. Just as they had been talking, he fell back asleep again. Ye Chenfeng couldn’t help but envy his remarkable adaptability.
As he gazed at Shen Binghan sleeping, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he resembled an innocent young man just stepping into society. Yet his approach to tasks was completely contrary to that appearance.
In any case, Shen Binghan had taken root in Ye Chenfeng’s mind. He was not just an ordinary Little Monk; their meeting felt more like fate than mere coincidence, as if he had come specifically for him.
