"You should tell me, because I feel like you're not happy attending your friend's wedding. Is there something going on? If so, I can help," Jiang Chen said with a faint smile.
The young woman scrutinized Jiang Chen, as if trying to see through his very soul. But no matter how she looked, he didn’t seem like someone of any particular status.
"Are you trying to hit on me?" the young woman suddenly asked.
"Uh, you're overthinking it. If you don't want to talk, just pretend I never asked," Jiang Chen replied, shaking his head in exasperation.
"Isn't that just your way of flirting with beautiful women? I've seen plenty of tricks like yours," the young woman remarked.
Jiang Chen chose not to respond further. Since she was unwilling to share, he wouldn’t push her. This matter had nothing to do with him anyway.
Seeing that Jiang Chen had stopped engaging with her, the young woman stood frozen for three seconds before catching up to him.
"Can you really help my friend?" she asked as she ran up beside him, feeling utterly helpless and left with no choice but to trust Jiang Chen this once.
"First, tell me what the situation is, and then I'll consider whether I can help," Jiang Chen said.
"I don’t know the specifics. I grew up with Pingping. After graduating from middle school, my family moved to Great Britain, but Pingping and I still kept in touch. Recently, she contacted me saying she was getting married, but her tone lacked any joy. I knew something was off. After pressing her repeatedly, she finally stammered out the details: she’s being forced by the Feng Family. If you're from Southwest Province, you should know about the Feng Family; they are our Underground Leaders in Southwest Province and wield immense power. Actually, Pingping's family isn’t an ordinary one either. It puzzled me that with their status, they wouldn't need to bow to the Feng Family. But Pingping said the Feng Family has changed; it seems they've allied with a martial arts force. If she refuses to marry Feng Dong, the Feng Family will wipe out her family," the young woman explained.
This young woman was named Yang Er; the Yang Family used to be a prominent family in Southwest Province before they immigrated to Great Britain.
"What martial arts force would dare meddle in worldly affairs?" Jiang Chen asked.
"I'm not sure about that. I've heard it's a martial arts force from the Ten Thousand Great Mountains. Pingping's family can't handle them; they must be quite powerful. Can you help Pingping?" Yang Er looked at Jiang Chen with hopeful eyes.
"A martial arts force from the Ten Thousand Great Mountains? This is getting interesting," Jiang Chen chuckled softly.
As far as Jiang Chen knew, there were only two major forces from the Ten Thousand Great Mountains: Divine Medicine Valley and Corpse Refining Clan. Of course, there were smaller factions too, but they were insignificant in his eyes. Now that Corpse Refining Clan was stirring again, Jiang Chen suspected that this backing found by the Feng Family was most likely Corpse Refining Clan.
"What do you mean by 'interesting'? If you can't help, just say so instead of being cryptic," Yang Er said, feeling displeased at Jiang Chen's playful demeanor.
"It's just a small matter. Come on, take me to see what's going on," Jiang Chen smiled. If the backing of the Feng Family was indeed Corpse Refining Clan, it would save him some trouble.
Seeing Jiang Chen's nonchalant attitude left Yang Er astonished.
"Just you alone?" Yang Er asked.
"A mere Feng Family is nothing I can't handle by myself," Jiang Chen replied with a grin.
"Forget it; I thought you had some sort of powerful background! If you go after the Feng Family without any backing, you'll die without even knowing how," Yang Er shook her head, thinking Jiang Chen was just boasting.
