Chapter 468: Human Skin Puppet (Part 31) 0

I stopped my exploration and speculation about Gousi, and a heavy silence filled the car. I had to adjust my thoughts and emotions, trying to think positively. To be honest, although Gousi and I had not built any emotional bond, I understood his character well. A man of iron and steel like him just gone like that was truly hard to accept. 0

The night spread out with a life of its own, enveloping everything in its mysterious colors, making it impossible to escape no matter where you were. 0

Gousi's residential area looked beautiful, grand, and magnificent under Baymax's gaze. Nestled between mountains and water, the villa area exuded a sense of tranquility, luxury, and serenity. Each villa had its own entrance and dedicated driveway, which merged into a three-lane main road that then connected to a six-lane road leading into the city. 0

Qin Jian's driving skills were exceptional; he maneuvered through the night as if flying. I felt no bumps at all while sitting in the car, and gradually my eyelids began to betray me, wanting to close in sleep. 0

What was wrong with me? Unable to sleep at night, leaning against the car made me feel drowsy. Was this a form of dependency? I forced myself to keep my eyes wide open; I must not fall asleep. I tried to stay alert, looking out at the stars dotting the sky. Those weren't stars; they were lights. We were perched on a mountainside, gazing down at the distant view—it was breathtakingly beautiful. 0

Gousi's home appeared amidst my anxious anticipation. Qin Jian and I got out of the car, and I pointed towards Gousi's house. Our gazes converged on the dark door that lacked any light. 0

Why was there no light? Had he gone to bed early? 0

As we approached the entrance, a security guard from the villa came out. 0

Qin Jian presented his identification. The guard glanced at it without showing much surprise but respectfully nodded and said, "You police officers have it tough," before allowing us to pass. 0

We walked in, but after just a few steps, I felt something was off and couldn't help but murmur, "Isn't it strange for police to come to a villa area at this hour?" 0

Hearing this, Qin Jian abruptly turned around and quickly headed back toward the guard. Sensing something was amiss, I hurriedly followed him. 0

The guard looked surprised as we returned and asked, "Aren't you two going to Number Three Family's place?" 0

Qin Jian repeated the question, "What happened at Number Three Family?" 0

"Ah, the male head of Number Three Family died a few days ago. The female head is under protection; some people came to take her away." 0

Under protection? Looking at Qin Jian's expression seemed to say: How come I didn't know about this? 0

But I found this matter strange. Who took him away? The security guard shook his head in confusion, saying that the person seemed to have some sort of authority. They didn't have the power or obligation to stop someone from taking him, especially since the other party held a stamped certificate. 0

Having been taken away, it's no wonder no one went to see Gousi's body. I suddenly felt anxious and uncomfortable, wishing I could rush into their house to find out what had happened. Qin Jian was asking the security guard which department the mental hospital belonged to, and whether the hospital's head had left any records. 0

The results of the inquiry were shocking. The notes provided by the security guard, after Qin Jian's meticulous questioning, turned out to be false information. It meant that he had been taken away by someone of unknown origin, and his whereabouts were unknown. 0

Qin Jian, the security guard, and I rushed towards Gousi's home. The door was ajar, and the lights inside flickered like ghostly flames. The furnishings were in complete disarray; the previous elegance and grandeur had vanished, leaving the entire place in chaos. It looked as if it had just experienced an earthquake, with everything turned upside down. 0

I closed my eyes slightly, my body and nervous system in a state of stillness, trying to sense deeply—then I caught a fleeting glimpse of a slender figure darting past quickly, followed by sounds of crashing and screaming, along with heavy, hurried breaths. After a while, a group of people in white coats appeared. They rushed to restrain the screaming individual, regardless of her struggles and bites, simply focusing on controlling her. The loud bang of the door interrupted my moment of sensing. 0

The connection broke off abruptly as if someone had cut off the power supply; in that instant, my mind went blank. Soon after, I opened my eyes to see the security guard standing there with his hands hanging low, looking dejected and pale, cold sweat dripping down his face without uttering a word. 0

The security guard was guilty of serious negligence. Qin Jian dialed a number at the bureau to start searching for a vehicle with a specific license plate number. 0

As I recalled my encounters with Gousi —the sound of his laughter and voice echoing in my ears—I realized he was no longer among us. Life is unpredictable; it truly leaves one feeling helpless. Qin Jian and I meticulously searched through the house inch by inch when suddenly a soft jingling sound came from within. 0

Identifying its source, I decisively knelt down and reached for something that had fallen on the ground—a Rosewood Cabinet. 0

The cabinet was meant for displaying antiques; some had shattered upon hitting the floor while others had broken corners. Qin Jian glanced around and said to me, "The scene inside doesn't look like it was caused by human actions; it seems more like some sinister force overturned everything." 0

Qin Jian was right; none of this could have been done by human strength. My gaze fixed on the antiques scattered on the floor as I nodded and said, "Yes, she has been here." 0

"Who?" 0

"The one who wore the Human Skin Plastic Model." I stood up and handed what I had found to Qin Jian. 0

Qin Jian instinctively reached out to take it with surprise etched on his face, his eyes wide as if he were watching a projector showing something terrifying on my face. 0

"This place needs to be cordoned off; we might need outside assistance," I reminded him that this was a mobile phone but definitely not one belonging to anyone in Gousi's family—it was far too ordinary for such a luxurious villa. 0

Qin Jian examined the phone with concern, wiping where I had just touched it with a cloth. "Yes, I've already requested help," he said before scolding me, "In the future, don't recklessly reach for these pieces of evidence." 0

Qin Jian glanced at his phone and said to me, "This is a terrible phone. How did you figure that out?" 0

I thanked him for his earlier warning, but his comment puzzled me. It was true; I had clearly heard the ringtone. Otherwise, how would anyone know there was a phone under the Redwood Cabinet? 0

Seeing my confusion, Qin Jian nodded. "Perhaps it was your subconscious sensing energy at work." 0

He had a point, but what was I supposed to do about my phone? 0

"Let's see if we can fix it when we get back." 0

As he spoke, I had already walked into another room, which was the bedroom shared by Yu and Gousi. Qin Jian quietly followed behind, being careful not to disturb my contemplation. I needed absolute silence while sensing; any noise could disrupt my focus and have an impact on me. 0
