Chapter 467: Human Skin Puppet (Part 30) 0

Ling Juan and I were both bewildered. Chen Pi had checked out, and Qin Jian seemed unaware of it. Oh no! It appeared that Chen Pi was quite cunning; the information we had was outdated. It seemed we would lose track of Chen Pi again. Reluctantly, I kept my eyes fixed on Door 6, when suddenly I remembered the commotion coming from Door 5. I decisively asked the landlord to open the door, stating that if there were any issues, they could come to me. 0

Seeing my determination, the landlord had no choice but to take out a jingling set of keys and unlock Door 6. 0

As soon as Door 6 opened, I rushed inside first. The room was pitch black, and there was a faint odor reminiscent of decaying flesh. I reached out but couldn't find the light switch; it was the landlord who came in and turned on the lights. As he did so, he muttered, "The tenant left suddenly; it will take some time to clean up..." 0

Before he could finish his sentence, he was taken aback by the sight before him. The room was a complete mess, especially the bed which had numerous bloodstains. Ling Juan, being a forensic student, instinctively took out her sampling tools to collect evidence from the bloodstains. 0

I stopped the landlord and the aunt from entering while Ling Juan and I meticulously searched every corner of the room. 0

The bed was stained with blood, and there were clothes scattered everywhere. Based on these bloodstains, Ling Juan suspected there might be a corpse or someone injured in the room. So we carefully examined every inch of the space. 0

After our search yielded nothing, we were exhausted and sore. 0

Ling Juan asked if we should notify Qin Jian. I thought it unnecessary; she could take the samples back for testing to determine the blood's origin. 0

"That's all we can do..." she said reluctantly, glancing around for anything suspicious. 0

I grabbed her arm: "Stop looking. They're still outside; we can't keep them waiting." 0

We stepped outside together, and I instructed the landlord not to rent out Room 6 again and to preserve the scene since there were things that needed police investigation. The landlord nodded obediently, his previous arrogance replaced by fear as he watched us leave with the frightened aunt. 0

It felt like a wasted effort. Sighing, I decided to call Qin Jian to inform him of our findings. 0

Upon hearing the situation, Qin Jian ordered me to take Ling Juan to the station for testing her blood samples. 0

Before we received any results from the tests, all three of us—Qin Jian, Ling Juan, and I—shared a similar thought: this blood belonged to Chen Pi. 0

However, to our surprise, the test results revealed otherwise. 0

The blood was human but did not belong to Chen Pi. 0

There were no corpses or injured individuals in the room; the source of this blood was truly bizarre. With Chen Pi's whereabouts still unknown, Qin Jian regretted not having found an excuse to detain him earlier. His words indirectly reminded me of something else. 0

Wasn't Chen Pi in a car headed to Riverside Family when an accident occurred that killed an uncle? Shouldn't you have asked that driver about it? 0

A single sentence jolted him awake from his dreams. Qin Jian immediately contacted a friend at the transportation bureau to get the driver's phone number. After dialing, he realized that the person was a Didi driver, and the number couldn't be easily reached. Since the driver was indeed a Didi driver, it meant that he had an employer-employee relationship with Chen Pi. 0

That lead was cut off. 0

Qin Jian dropped Ling Juan off at her dormitory and then took me back to my place, stopping for coffee along the way. 0

The café was still the same old place, with the same familiar atmosphere. The server greeted us warmly as Qin Jian and I chose a particularly quiet corner to sit down. 0

I declined coffee, and when Qin Jian ordered something nice for himself, I shook my head. "I don't want strong coffee; I'm afraid I won't be able to sleep." 0

Qin Jian understood; he had been struggling with insomnia lately, all due to anxiety over several bizarre death cases. 0

"Long-term insomnia is really bad for you. The sleep period around three in the morning is when the liver detoxifies, and from five in the morning until nine after breakfast is when the intestines and stomach detoxify, which is also when bowel movements occur. If you suffer from insomnia for a long time, it can lead to bodily dysfunction and eventually cause illness." 0

Qin Jian was surprised by my words. "Oh! When did you start studying health preservation?" 0

"I read it in a book at a friend's house." That book was at Gousi's place. Thinking of Gousi made me think of his wife, Yu. What would happen to Yu now that Gousi was gone? I suddenly felt an urge to check on her but hesitated, feeling it might be too impulsive. 0

With both Gousi and Gou San gone, what business did I have going there? 0

But after pondering for a while, my curiosity got the better of me, and I urged Qin Jian to come with me to see Yu. 0

"Yu, your Gousi's wife?" 0

"Yes." 0

Qin Jian checked the time; it was ten-thirty at night. He asked, "Is this a good time to go?" 0

"Should we change plans?" I thought perhaps he was worried about Chi Xinrong being alone and scared, which made him hesitant. 0

Qin Jian took a sip of coffee, casually wiped his mouth, and glanced at his phone again. It seemed he had made up his mind; suddenly standing up, he waved his hand at me and said, "Let's go take a look." 0

I truly didn't expect Qin Jian to change so quickly; he had been indecisive just moments ago but was now ready to go. 0

Initially reluctant myself, I felt my enthusiasm sparked by his determination and quickly agreed—who was afraid of whom? 0

On our way to Gousi's luxurious villa, Qin Jian asked many questions about him. I simply mentioned that he dealt in antiques and that he was quite wealthy—his beloved woman throughout his life. 0

Once, due to an unexpected event, I coincidentally met Gousi while helping with an exorcism. 0

I estimated that if something happened to Gousi, it would be Yu who was the most heartbroken. Unfortunately, I had been busy with other matters and hadn't gone to visit her. 0

"The body of Gousi is sealed in the funeral home. Only immediate family members can pay their respects; no one else can see it. As far as I know, it seems that no one has visited his body so far," Qin Jian said. 0

How could that be? I couldn't believe Qin Jian's words. Yu was Gousi's only relative; if she hadn't gone to see him, could something terrible have happened? Seeing my mood suddenly drop, Qin Jian comforted me, "Perhaps Yu is just too sad and unwilling to face this matter. Just like that Mr. Wild Ghost, a person can avoid certain things and people in reality. They might assume that this person is still alive and will return someday, deliberately isolating themselves from the real world to avoid being disturbed, locking themselves in their own world under the pretense of waiting for a loved one. In truth, they are unwilling to confront reality." 0

Listening to Qin Jian made me even more worried about Yu's current situation. I should have brought Ling Juan along; girls communicate better with each other. With Ling Juan's particularly lively personality at home, she would definitely be helpful. I had concealed some details about Gousi's situation and hadn't fully confided in Qin Jian. 0

Firstly, Gousi was actually a Tomb Raider. Secondly, he had some unspeakable dealings with Gong Elder. Thirdly, he was also a kind-hearted person who had used the money obtained from tomb raiding for charitable deeds. However, no matter how much good he tried to do, that money was still ill-gotten gains, and the reason for his untimely death was related to his tomb raiding activities. 0
