Chapter 46: Grudge Sixteen 0

My name is Ma Qi, and I am an ordinary Mortician, speaking on my own behalf. 0

Though I walk the path of the Underworld, I make my living in it. My unique ability, an extraordinary sixth sense, coupled with some inexplicable events that have occurred in my life, led Qin Jian to invite me to be his partner in a special case investigation team. We are currently on the rooftop of the Sixth Psychiatric Hospital in City A. 0

What unfolded before us was terrifying. Li Mingliang was forcefully dragging Zhang Xian toward the wall near a dangerous area. Climbing that wall would mean crossing the boundary between life and death; one step back meant survival, while one step forward meant certain death. If they both fell, it would result in a gruesome end. 0

“Dr. Li, please calm down and don’t do anything foolish,” Qin Jian pleaded, frustrated that he hadn’t brought anything to stop Li Mingliang. He tried to reason with her, hoping to soothe her raging emotions. 0

At that moment, I couldn’t help but shiver at the cruel smile on Li Mingliang’s face. 0

This was the true face of the renowned Chief Neurologist, a figure of fame and power. If she had been just a bit more patient and discreetly exploited her professional position to manipulate Zhang Xian, perhaps her true nature wouldn’t have been revealed so quickly. 0

Just then, as if fate conspired against us, a light drizzle began to fall from the overcast sky. 0

The fine rain created a misty atmosphere, shrouding our surroundings in a haze. Li Mingliang ignored the rain and continued to drag the unconscious Zhang Xian. 0

Zhang Xian had no strength to resist; her head hung low, arms limp at her sides, eyes glazed over, and her face ashen—she was nothing more than a lifeless puppet being dragged along by Li Mingliang. 0

Li Mingliang was a Psychologist who understood hypnosis and had sedated Zhang Xian with a large dose of tranquilizers. 0

Qin Jian spoke up, but Li Mingliang treated his words as if they were nonsense, continuing to pull Zhang Xian toward the wall. He was furious yet helpless; she warned him with a firm grip on Zhang Xian's neck that any attempt to approach would cost Zhang Xian her life within moments. 0

Qin Jian stopped in his tracks, and I followed suit. I heard him shout angrily, “What have you done to her?” 0

Li Mingliang let out a cold laugh and turned to look at us. The wall was just a step away; it was about three bricks wide. If she managed to drag Zhang Xian up there, it would seal both their fates— 0

Below the wall lay an abyss deep enough to shatter bones! 0

“You’re meddling in affairs that don’t concern you. I haven’t done anything to her; she is exactly as she is now. What can you do about it?” Li Mingliang gripped Zhang Xian tightly, her eyes filled with malice and indifference. A mocking smile curled at her lips; at that moment, there was no trace of the so-called kindness she was supposed to embody—only cruelty and viciousness radiated from her. 0

In a moment of desperation, Qin Jian suddenly exploded with anger, shouting at me, "Ma Qi, do you want to see this scene? I can't believe you don't know her true intentions. Is this the truth you want to see?" 0

I pinched a talisman between my fingers and, without paying attention to Qin Jian's complaints, began to chant an incantation. The incense burned beautifully, and a wisp of smoke quickly dissipated into the air. Ignoring the danger posed by Li Mingliang just half a step behind me, I laughed heartily and said, "Doctor Li, do you think she would agree to this?" 0

Li Mingliang sneered and replied, "She... she has been injected with a large dose of sedative and is currently drowsy..." 0

I disregarded Qin Jian's eye roll and looked directly at Li Mingliang with a faint smile. "It's not Zhang Xian I'm talking about; it's that girl behind you." 0

Li Mingliang seemed skeptical upon hearing this. She let out an exaggerated laugh, "Kid, I don't know what kind of expert you think you are, but I'm not easily scared." 0

Suddenly, another "person" appeared on the scene. It wasn't just Li Mingliang who was unconvinced; even Qin Jian felt bewildered. He nervously whispered, "This trick won't work; she's already gone mad." 0

I shook my head noncommittally and continued, "I'm not trying to scare you; let her face you!" When I said this, I didn't even look at Li Mingliang. My demeanor was calm and confident, successfully drawing Li Mingliang's attention. 0

"What do you mean? Who... who is she?" 0

The rain intensified, soaking my shoulders alongside Qin Jian's. Li Mingliang and Zhang Xian had droplets of water clinging to their hair, which slid down and disappeared, naturally forming a circle around them. 0

I scratched my nose casually as if discussing everyday matters. "Li Aihong, a long-haired beauty in a white floral dress, smiling sweetly as she calls out to you: 'Mommy, stop! Don't add any more burdens...'" 0

At the mention of Li Aihong's name, Li Mingliang shuddered all over, her eyes widening in shock. Her expression changed as her damp hair clung to her forehead, making her look haggard and worn. 0

"How do you know my daughter's name? How do you know she loves to smile and wears a white floral dress?" Li Mingliang questioned with a quivering voice that made my nose tingle. Damn it, I—Ma Qi—was feeling emotional; I really didn't know if I would burst into tears at Li Mingliang's sorrowful plea. 0

"No one told me; she's right beside you." As I spoke, I flicked my fingers, causing the incense smoke to swirl above Li Mingliang's head with a life-like agility. I then chanted another incantation: "Go forth, command!" 0

A wisp of ethereal smoke shot into the nostrils of the unconscious Zhang Xian. 0

In the next second, Li Mingliang was startled by Zhang Xian suddenly opening her eyes wide. 0

"You... it's impossible. How could you wake up after such a heavy dose?" Her voice trembled with emotion as she tightly grasped the awakened Zhang Xian, trying to pull her towards the wall. Qin Jian, feeling anxious, took a quick step forward—just as I grabbed him. At that moment, Li Mingliang climbed up the wall, closing in on the awakened Zhang Xian. If he took one more step, everything would be lost. 0

I held onto Qin Jian as the awakened Zhang Xian suddenly called out, "Mom..." 0

Li Mingliang's eyes widened, filled with tears and bloodshot, trembling as he asked, "Who... who are you?" 0

The awakened Zhang Xian smiled gently, reaching out to wipe away the tears rolling down Li Mingliang's cheeks. "I'm Aiwen, your daughter. Mom, please don't cry. You have so many patients who are counting on you to live." 0

Li Mingliang could hardly believe it, allowing the awakened Zhang Xian to caress her face while murmuring, "Is it really you, Aiwen? Is it really?" 0

"Mom, it's me. I came back to see you. How can I feel at ease if you think this way?" 0

Li Mingliang broke down in tears, embracing the awakened Zhang Xian and crying out, "Aiwen... my daughter... Aiwen... do you know how much I've missed you?" 0
