Chapter 418: Turning Danger into Safety
Chi Xinrong nodded, casting a deep glance at Qin Jian before glancing at me. "You two have a good chat. I'll go inform the attending physician that you're awake," he said, then swiftly left the room.
"I felt something was off when I saw you leave with Gong Elder. Not long after, someone told me you were drunk and got into a fight with some people in a private room. I rushed over to check, but it turned out to be false. Just as I was about to turn back and question the person who reported it, I was suddenly ambushed. Someone hit me on the back of my head, and then I blacked out. When I came to, I found myself in a dark, damp room filled with mice. You know how much I hate mice. Being stuck in that hellhole, unable to tell day from night, it wasn't until I heard someone next door that I started banging on the wall for help."
"Lao Qin, that was me! It was me! Lao Qin, you've suffered. Do you know who attacked you?"
Qin Jian shook his head, unable to see clearly.
"Don't guess; I know who it is."
"Who?" Qin Jian asked.
"It's Gong Elder."
"No way! He's retired and a mentor to many at the Station. How could he do something like that?"
Perhaps Gong Elder used to be good but was corrupted by some evil force and changed as a person. Now he is also in a precarious situation, so what goes around comes around; this saying isn't without merit.
Qin Jian asked what had happened, but I couldn't reveal too much. Then he told me he had an odd dream while unconscious.
Strange dreams are commonplace for me, but it was Qin Jian's first experience with one.
Moreover, I appeared in this strange dream of his.
Just then, Chi Xinrong returned with the doctor, prompting Qin Jian to fall silent.
After the doctor finished the examination and left, Chi Xinrong unceremoniously ordered me to leave. We had talked for quite a while, and it was time for Qin Jian to rest.
Qin Jian was reluctant and insisted on finishing what he had to say. Only then did Chi Xinrong, somewhat displeased, refrain from pushing me out. I stayed put while she insisted on leaving to check if there were any fresh fruits outside, planning to buy some.
Qin Jian didn’t stop her. Watching her go out, he continued with the previous topic. He had dreamed of me appearing while he was fighting someone—a strange figure whose face he couldn’t make out. The person was indeed bizarre.
Qin Jian felt that the person lacked warmth, making him feel cold as well, and he couldn’t shake off the strange figure’s entanglement. When I appeared, I pressed a talisman against him, which shimmered with golden light, startling the strange figure into a shriek before it fled.
What I experienced wasn’t a dream; it was something that truly happened to both of us just moments ago when an unclean evil entity had possessed him and nearly strangled me.
Qin Jian looked astonished as he examined his hands, utterly perplexed.
At that moment, Qin Jian's phone rang. He struggled a bit to reach it since it was on the lamp stand. I handed him the phone, and as he answered, his expression changed dramatically.
Seeing his reaction, I sensed something was wrong; something must have happened.
Sure enough, after hanging up, Qin Jian told me that Gong Elder had gone mad, lost control, attacked the guards, and had run off without a trace.
What was meant to come would always come!
I thought to myself that this time Gong Elder's target could only be Qin Jian without a doubt.
Then I shared my thoughts with Qin Jian. Time ticked by in silence in the hospital room where only he remained. When Chi Xinrong returned with fresh fruits, it was already eleven o'clock in the morning.
Don’t ask me where I was; all I knew was everything happening in Qin Jian's hospital room was crystal clear to me.
Chi Xinrong came and went; she had just entered when she left again shortly after.
The sound of squeaking wheels echoed through the air, accompanied by the heavy thud of footsteps.
A fully armed Male Doctor, wearing a large mask and an oversized white lab coat, slowly approached Qin Jian's hospital room.
This was a medication cart used by hospital nurses, which came to a stop at the door of the ward. The masked Male Doctor first retrieved an enormous syringe from the cart, filling it with a blue substance. The eyes above the mask reflected a fierce intensity as he headed straight for Qin Jian's bed.
At that moment, Chi Xinrong was nowhere to be found. The ward was eerily quiet, save for the heavy breathing and footsteps of the Male Doctor who had entered Qin Jian's room.
As the Male Doctor reached the bedside, his gaze grew even more menacing. He raised the syringe high, aiming for Qin Jian's temple, ready to strike. In a flash, the person lying in bed suddenly threw off the covers and leaped up, using the blanket to ensnare the upper half of the Male Doctor.
Just then, chaotic footsteps approached from outside the room. The first person to rush in was also a fully armed police officer.
The person who had jumped from the bed was not Qin Jian; it was me, Ma Qi.
Gong Elder had been successfully captured but was struggling desperately.
The police could not get close; Gong Elder possessed incredible strength, emitting roars that sounded inhuman. He resembled a frenzied beast, and despite being covered above his head, he managed to upend the bed, turning the entire ward into chaos.
I ordered everyone to leave and faced the rampaging Gong Elder alone.
With hand gestures and incantations, I chanted: "Dust returns to dust, earth returns to earth, wandering souls depart, command!" At that moment, Gong Elder broke free from my trap, revealing a terrifyingly grotesque head. As I recited my soul-collecting spell, he let out an ear-piercing howl.
Then dark smoke began to pour out from his confinement. Voices of men, women, and infants emerged from it. Damn Gong Elder had consumed infant souls and flesh to achieve immortality, relying on countless spirits to sustain his hollow body and mind.
The unwilling souls trapped within Gong Elder were finally released. They swirled around him before rushing into his nostrils, mouth, and eye sockets. The cries of agony filled the air as Gong Elder smoked and collapsed like an empty shell onto the ground, instantly vanishing into nothingness.
This scene unfolded so quickly that those blocking the doorway were left dumbfounded.
If there were no police present, this situation would be quite difficult to handle. Someone like Ma Qi would definitely stir up trouble, making a living person disappear without a trace.
I was exhausted, having just defeated Gong Elder. My body felt weak and limp, and I leaned against the wall, not wanting to move another inch.
At this moment, Chi Xinrong showed her emotional side. With a quivering voice, she asked, "Brother Qi, are you okay?" Her concern touched me deeply.
I assured her that I was fine, as long as she didn't jump to conclusions about my relationship with Qin Jian.
"Brother Qi, stop it. Qin Jian told me that you saved him in his dreams."
"Can we drop it? I just want to sleep." Even after defeating Gong Elder, the pressure in my heart hadn't lessened because the Evil Sorcerer lurking in the shadows was still unaccounted for. After several consecutive searches, I had lost sleep—not just a little, but severely.
Qin Jian would be discharged from the hospital in half a month.
