Chapter 414: The True Culprit Behind the Scenes 0

To be honest, Gong Elder is not something to fear. What worries me is the "person" behind him, that hidden "person," as well as Gao Sheng, who has been nurtured by Evil Arts. 0

I am concerned about Qin Jian. Feeling anxious and unable to sit still, I turned to Gousi and said, "It's not that I don't want to stay with you; I'm just worried about someone else." 0

Gousi replied, "Don't worry about that. I know who you're concerned about—it's that guy with the surname Qin. Even though I seem carefree, I've already arranged for someone to protect him at the hospital." 0

I couldn't help but appreciate Gousi's meticulousness. He thought of things I hadn't considered and accomplished what I couldn't. 0

Regarding Qin Jian, I must thank Gousi. But before I could express my gratitude, he preempted me: "Come on, since we're brothers, there's no need to keep thanking each other. Besides, I don't like hearing those surface-level expressions of gratitude. We should help each other out; our common enemy is Gong Elder." 0

"How do we overthrow him? Gong Elder has deep roots in the Station. The directors and deputy chiefs he promoted are not easy opponents. Right now, he's not being monitored; he's enjoying..." 0

Thank you, Master understood what I meant. As a police officer, he knew how deep the waters were in that place. Otherwise, how could a retired officer wield such influence? Not to mention the scum he privately supports. 0

The lighter in Gousi's hand clicked repeatedly, as if he was contemplating or brewing some thoughts. 0

For a moment, the room fell silent until she appeared and broke the stillness. She smiled and added hot water to her teacup. Seeing the tea dilute, she suggested, "Why don't we brew another cup?" 0

I shook my head. "No need." Then I kept glancing at my phone for the time. 0

Thank you, Master noticed my anxiety and suggested, "Why don't you make a call to check?" 0

That was a great idea. I nodded and got up to head toward the balcony. 0

Stepping out of the living room onto the balcony was refreshing; I really liked this open space with its beach chairs and flowers. The lighting was excellent. If I could lie back on a beach chair during a nap with my eyes closed, it would truly be one of life's great pleasures. 0

The floor-to-ceiling windows were made of all-glass steel; I flicked my finger against them and found they were thick bulletproof glass. It seemed that in the world of the wealthy, there was always a sense of vigilance. Gousi must have been wary of dark-minded individuals trying to harm him, hence the heavy security measures. 0

I dialed Chi Xinrong's number. She answered quickly and was delighted to hear from me. She told me that Qin Jian had woken up and asked me to guess who he mentioned first upon waking up. I urged her not to keep me in suspense and to tell me his current condition. 0

Chi Xinrong informed me that Qin Jian was recovering well; surprisingly, his first words upon opening his eyes were not directed at her but at Ma Qi. 0

I joked, of course, that I, Ma Qi, was Qin Jian's savior and a good brother. Chi Xinrong let out a cold snort, seemingly jealous. It was as if she thought I was unworthy and that Qin Jian was no better; she had taken care of him with all her heart, yet he didn’t even remember her. 0

Sigh! Women truly are incomprehensible creatures. 0

After asking about Qin Jian's condition and learning that he was doing well, I was eager to see him immediately. I planned to hang up the phone and head to the hospital, but it seemed Chi Xinrong sensed my intention to end the call and hurriedly said she had something else to tell me. 0

I asked her what it was. 0

Her voice suddenly dropped, taking on a mysterious tone. She recounted that at the moment Qin Jian woke up, a very thin man stood quietly at the door of the ward, watching them. She described the man as frightening, with a pale complexion and an oddly unsettling appearance. The gist of it was that when this person appeared, the temperature in Qin Jian's room plummeted, creating an extremely cold sensation. 0

A ghost keeper? 0

I quickly asked Chi Xinrong what happened next. She admitted she was scared and didn’t dare to look at the person for long but discreetly pressed the emergency call button. Soon after, nurses and doctors arrived, but by then, the man had vanished without a trace. 0

Was it an Evil Sorcerer or Gao Sheng? 0

Hearing this from Chi Xinrong made me anxious; I could hardly wait to be by Qin Jian's side. 0

I then informed Gousi and Thank You, Master about my plan to go to the hospital. Gousi suggested that Ma Ge drive me there, while he would consider my intention to visit my mother at Ten-Mile Temple. 0

I longed to see my mother's spirit and wished for her to appear in my dreams. Yet for some reason, while other spirits could seek my help, neither of my biological parents had ever reached out to me. 0

I understood Gousi's point; if I chose to detour to Ten-Mile Temple, it would be acceptable. However, Qin Jian's safety was paramount. I couldn’t selfishly prioritize seeing my family over his well-being. Besides, my mother had already been blessed by the elders at Ten-Mile Temple, which was quite significant. 0

Thus, I decided to visit Qin Jian first and would arrange a time later to go to Ten-Mile Temple. 0

As I sat in the car, thoughts of talismans crossed my mind. Unfortunately, all my talismans were with Zhang Xian, so I would need to make a detour to Zhang Xian Clinic to retrieve them before heading to the hospital. Having those talismans would be essential for any unforeseen circumstances. 0

I didn't know Ma Ge very well; honestly, I wasn't keen on getting too close. However, with Gousi's instructions weighing on me, I couldn't refuse him outright. It worried me that good intentions might be mistaken for foolishness. 0

Thank You, Master heard that I was leaving and wanted a ride home as well. Business at his shop had been good lately; he left everything in his store under his son Xie Ke’s care. Xie Ke had recently started dating someone new and might have been worried about offending old customers due to his lack of experience running the shop alone. No matter how much Gousi urged him to stay, he insisted on leaving without any way to change his mind. 0

First, Ma Ge returned Thank you, Master, then he circled around half of City A to Zhang Xian Clinic. 0

There was no conversation along the way. I spent most of the time staring out the window. The weather was nice, with a warm sun, a colorless sky, green Street Trees, and the bustling market all passing by in a blur outside the car window. 0

When we arrived home, Thank you, Master got out of the car and only said one thing to me. He wished me well, and I told him to take care since I might need him as a witness later. 0

The car sped along for a little over half an hour until we reached Beishi Road Xian Clinic. 0

Seeing Zhang Xian Clinic reminded me of what happened last time, and I felt unsettled. The car stopped, but Ma Ge didn’t get out. I walked alone to the entrance and noticed the clinic was eerily quiet, with Zhang Xian dozing off at her desk. 0

As I approached, I flicked my fingers against the roll-up door, which made a loud clattering noise. The sound startled Zhang Xian, and she nervously stood up. It wasn’t until she saw it was me that she let out a sigh of relief. “I thought I encountered a ghost. What brings you here?” 0

“Do you think I shouldn’t come? I’m here to pick something up.” To be honest, I didn’t have a good impression of Zhang Xian. She always seemed to present one face while hiding another behind it, as if there were unspeakable secrets lurking in her hypocritical world. 0
