Chapter 88: The Mysterious Person 0

"Stop the car!" Qin Jian shouted, but no matter how loudly he yelled, it was futile, and the car didn't stop. 0

Qin Jian struggled to suppress his rising emotions and stabilize his restless mindset. He changed his tone and said to me, "Lao Qi, saving a life is better than building a seven-story pagoda. If Sha Doctor and Gong are in trouble, you can't just stand by and do nothing. In this situation, you have to help them; Rongrong and I are powerless." 0

"There is someone who can help." 0

"Who?" 0

"Your Wild Ghost Hypnotist." 0

"I almost forgot about that person. Fine! If you’re unwilling to help, then I’ll have to seek him out." 0

"Qin Jian, listen to me carefully. It’s not that I don’t want to help; it’s that they aren’t cooperating. Everything has its causality. I suspect they’ve done something wrong. What do you think?" 0

"Ma Qi, shut up! Sha Hong has been recognized as an advanced practitioner for years. She hasn’t even retired yet; the hospital can’t function without her. Her achievements and hard work are evident. How dare you say she’s done something against her conscience? I won’t agree with that, and I’ll keep arguing with you." 0

"I understand. Some things and some people can’t be judged by appearances." Ignoring Qin Jian's warnings, I said the words that pierced Chi Xinrong's heart and declared firmly, "Open the door; I’m getting out." 0

"Are you done making a scene?" Qin Jian scolded me and then reprimanded Chi Xinrong, "Everyone should just keep quiet; we still need to figure out what to do next." 0

Chi Xinrong didn’t listen to Qin Jian and actually stopped the car, coldly saying, "Get out." 0

This place was far from my rented apartment, and there were no late-night buses; taxis rarely passed by here. However, Ma Wu Funeral Home wasn’t far away. I hadn’t been there in a long time and didn’t know how Fatty was doing now. Ignoring Qin Jian’s advice, I pushed open the car door and insisted on getting out. 0

Qin Jian was worried about Chi Xinrong going back alone, so he naturally wouldn’t get out of the car with me. 0

Watching the car drive away made me feel much lighter. With my hands in my pockets, I determinedly walked forward in the direction I needed to go. The streets appeared desolate and empty in the night; each shuttered shop quietly watched me, a homeless wanderer returning at night. 0

The flickering neon signs tirelessly flashed their brilliant lights but lost their charm in the absence of attention. Suddenly, I really wanted a drink; at that moment, I felt the loneliest night of my life as I walked on. 0

Childhood memories surged to the forefront of my mind like the morning sun, those were the days I cherished the most. It was a world just for me and Fatty; although we had no money, we were happy. I teased him, joked with him, and there were also Grandpa's stern reprimands. 0

I knelt on the ground for three hours, standing under the sun until I felt dizzy, nearly collapsing. It was all because of my teasing; Fatty's complaints had made Grandpa angry, resulting in my harshest punishment. At that time, I was truly happy. 0

My youth was wasted; if I had known that time was a butcher's knife, I would have lived it fully, at least making something of myself during those youthful years. Lost in daydreams, I couldn't help but smile foolishly. If someone had seen or heard me at that moment, they might have thought I was a homeless person or a madman. As I looked up and laughed, the fleeting headlights of a passing car illuminated a sign: Liu Chao Shou Wonton Shop. 0

The scene from before flashed in my mind. Right, I needed to go to the hospital; I wondered how Li Luwen's mother was doing now, and what about Zhang Xian? I took out my phone to call Qin Jian but frowned at the thought of Chi Xinrong and simply put my phone back in my bag. 0

A car approached silently and stopped beside me, startling me as I realized it was a taxi. 0

"Are you getting in?" the driver asked expressionlessly. 0

I leaned in to look inside; it seemed there was someone sitting in the back seat. It was too dark for me to see her clearly, but she appeared to be a woman dressed entirely in black. 0

"Is someone with you?" I straightened up, unwilling to impose. Besides, I wanted to reflect quietly on whether it was my fault or Dr. Sha's that led Chi Xinrong to yell at me and kick me out of the car. 0

The driver rolled down the window. "This lady is delivering late-night snacks; she requested that you join her, which is why I stopped." 0

"Oh, thank you." Goodness, kind people are so rare these days; they might as well be an endangered species. Just imagine walking alone on an empty street with no one caring about you when suddenly a good Samaritan invites you into their car. 0

Not only can the car take you where you want to go, but it also offers warmth beyond your imagination. It would be strange to refuse such an offer, especially since it was late autumn—the cold wind stung my face. 0

I hesitated but ultimately succumbed to Driver Brother's persuasion and got into the car. 0

As I settled in, I thought it was odd for this lady to be delivering late-night snacks at this hour—after all, it was already past one in the morning. However, I lacked the courage to voice my curiosity. After all, she had kindly invited me along; perhaps having another person would give her more courage. It would be ridiculous for me to ask where she was delivering snacks at such an hour. 0

I didn’t ask anything and soon found myself too exhausted. Once inside the car, I felt a comfort that made me want to drift away. Before long, sleep overtook me as I sank into the seat; the rhythmic sway of the vehicle felt like my mother rocking me in a cradle. I savored that moment and fell asleep. 0

In my dreams, I found myself back at the Wonton Shop—strangely enough—not at Gong Elder's house. If only I could dream of his home and its ghostly things; perhaps there would be some good fortune there. The key issue was that I didn’t dream of Dr. Sha’s home but rather of the Wonton Shop instead. 0

I was the only one in the entire shop; there were no bosses or staff around. In front of me was not a grand dish of Wonton, but rather an exquisitely crafted Square Box. 0

What could be inside the Square Box? 0

I looked around, but it was futile since I was all alone. Was it my overwhelming loneliness that led me to dream this, or was there another reason? For a moment, I didn’t dwell on it. The Square Box was enticing, tempting me to open it. 0

Finally, I mustered the courage to touch the Square Box. It radiated warmth, reminiscent of freshly cooked food. 0

My stomach grumbled slightly; surely there must be something to eat inside the Square Box. I slowly opened it, and a unique aroma instantly wafted out from the crevice, filling the space above my head. I inhaled deeply; what a delightful scent. 0

This was Wonton made with rich broth, and I was determined to savor it. Just as I prepared to pick up my chopsticks to eat, I realized I couldn’t find them. How strange! The Wonton sat in front of me, yet there were no chopsticks. Was I supposed to eat it with my hands? 0

Reluctantly, since I was alone, I knew that if I wanted to eat the Wonton, I had to find some chopsticks. I stood up, knowing that there must be chopsticks and other utensils in the back room, and headed that way. The place felt familiar to me; I navigated easily to the back room and quickly found the chopsticks before returning. 0
