Chapter 87: Infested with Evil Energy
The sight of Sha Hong when I activated my Demon Eyes was truly terrifying. Her head was a bloody mess, her eyeballs gouged out, and blood and saliva were leaking from her mouth and nose, making her look like a corpse. I shouted, "Stop!"
I released my aura with a furious roar, scaring the Infant Ghost that was toying with the nerves in her brain. The other Infant Ghosts, intimidated by my presence, quietly vanished.
"Seven, who are you shouting at to stop?" Sha Hong asked nervously. The retreat of the Infant Ghosts eased the pain in her temples. She stood up anxiously, glancing around.
"You can't see them. What I want to ask is whether you've done something wrong that has led to being tormented by so many Infant Ghosts." As I asked this question, I secretly calculated and frowned. It was strange; according to Sha Hong's fate, she should have reached her end long ago.
Her heavy karmic sins had diminished her lifespan. But what could have caused her to still be alive? And what about the object hanging around her husband Neck's neck? If she had something to ward off evil, the Infant Ghosts wouldn't have come after her.
"Seven, don't joke with me. Look at how dedicated I am; I've delivered countless babies. Some have grown up to become doctors, some scientists who manufacture airplanes, and others have gone abroad for further studies—there are countless examples! How could I possibly have done anything wrong?"
"Auntie, if you don't tell me the truth, I can't help you."
Sha Hong's emotions flared as she retorted sharply, "Seven, I've told you everything I can. I really haven't done anything wrong! Sigh! The reason I brought you here is to solve the problem, not for you to interrogate me!"
"Auntie, you're a doctor; you should understand the principle of asking questions to get to the root of an issue. If a patient doesn't reveal the true cause of their illness, can you treat them?"
"That's nonsense! The medical profession is sacred; how can it be compared to your superstitions?"
I was at a loss for words. I shut off my Demon Eyes and severed the connection to that world. In my heart, I thought: Sha Hong, you're stubborn and your time is short; don't blame me for not saving you. I stood up in shock, suppressing my anger as I called out to Qin Jian and Chi Xinrong in the inner room, "It's fine now; we can go home." After calling several times without response, Sha Hong angrily stormed into the bedroom and didn't come out again.
I had no choice but to approach the door and knock. Chi Xinrong opened it and gestured inside, indicating that they were in a fierce struggle and couldn't be disturbed. Then she stepped out and closed the door behind her. Not seeing Sha Hong in the living room, she asked, "So? Did you figure out what her problem is?"
"Yes, she's unwilling to cooperate."
Chi Xinrong looked at me with disbelief, raising an eyebrow and saying, "How is that possible? She has the same nightmare every night, dreaming of a house filled with all kinds of children. They look terrifying, with missing arms and legs, blood everywhere, crawling around in chaos. Every time she wakes up scared, she can't go back to sleep. That's the main reason for her insomnia."
"Yes, she's being haunted by the Infant Ghost."
Chi Xinrong covered her mouth, her beautiful eyes widening in shock. "Ah! That's scary."
"If she cooperates and tells me the truth, perhaps I can help her escape this disaster. The key issue is that not only is her problem serious, but Elder Gong also has issues."
"Is that true? What should we do?"
"You've witnessed some strange and unclear events before, so these matters are indeed troublesome. Unfortunately..." I glanced towards Sha Hong's bedroom and continued, "She isn't cooperating. According to my usual calculations, her Shouyang should have ended long ago. I don't know why she's still here."
"You mean she should have..."
"Yes."
"That's impossible! Are you sure you aren't mistaken?"
I heard footsteps and quickly shushed her, realizing the door was about to open. I hurriedly closed my mouth and stepped aside, pretending to be nonchalant as I looked around.
Sure enough, the door opened.
Qin Jian walked in front, a smile on his face.
Gong Xing followed closely behind, saying as he walked, "That was a thrilling game; it's been a long time since I've played so excitingly."
"Yes, if it weren't so late, I would have kept going with Gong."
"Oh, it's almost time. Are you all ready?" Gong Elder asked me.
I nodded and smiled, "There's nothing much to do."
"Oh." Gong Elder seemed a bit disappointed as he glanced at Sha Hong's bedroom door before turning his attention back to Qin Jian. "Qin, you and Rongrong are a perfect match. When are you getting married? Please invite this old man, whose half body is already buried in the ground, to eat some wedding candy. It would bring me some good luck to live a few more years."
Chi Xinrong didn't hold back and replied generously to Gong Elder, "Soon, Uncle Gong. Make sure you come when the time comes."
"I will definitely come."
We walked toward the door in unison. Qin Jian and Chi Xinrong exchanged glances. The former nudged me slightly, and I pretended not to notice as I strode confidently toward the already opened door.
Gong Elder politely saw us off at the entrance while Qin Jian and Chi Xinrong bid him farewell. I had already descended the stairs.
As we exited the villa unit of Gong Elder, Qin Jian kept asking, "Lao Qi, what's going on? You came here tonight just to help Sha Doctor, but you didn't do anything at all."
"Didn't do anything? I observed the feng shui of their house." I looked up at the darkened floors and continued walking briskly ahead.
Chi Xinrong and Qin Jian got into the car a beat later, both clearly exhausted, yawning as they started the engine.
Qin Jian was still curious about why I hadn't done anything.
"Sha Doctor is hiding a lot of things. Some people and some matters shouldn't be judged by appearances."
"What exactly do you want to know? You're asking this and that while helping others. Can't people have some privacy? Am I supposed to tell you all my secrets?" Chi Xinrong scolded me with emotion, and I couldn't be bothered to respond. I crossed my arms and pretended to doze off.
Qin Jian didn't get angry; instead, he patiently continued, "Lao Qi, you’re not very familiar with those people. They've already gone inside. Didn't you notice something was off?"
"And what if I did? Should I announce loudly, 'Doctor Sha, you're being haunted! Do you want me to help you exorcise the ghost?'" I shot a cold glare at Qin Jian and replied irritably.
"Well, she really is being haunted. Li Luwen is fine now; could it be her mother?"
"The issue with Doctor Sha Hong has nothing to do with Li Luwen from start to finish; it's her own problem. Also, Elder Gong has issues too."
"Stop the car..."
Qin Jian shouted, and Chi Xinrong slammed on the brakes in anger. "What are you yelling for? You can't stop here."
On the road, it was just the three of us, along with a face full of urgency. The dim streetlights cast a faint glow on the pavement, leaving heavy shadows in the areas they couldn't reach, as if ghosts were lurking there. My gaze fixed on that shadowy spot while my mind pondered what Qin Jian meant by calling for a stop.
