Chapter 70: The Kite Dream 0

Finally, I could lie down on the bed. 0

Mito, with a serene expression, looked enchanting with every smile and frown. 0

In a daze, I seemed to dream of my mother, who was humming a lullaby while patting the blanket. The drowsiness grew stronger, the light dimmed until everything around me faded into a hazy darkness. 0

"Brother Qi, come chase me, chase me!" 0

The kite soared higher above my head as Mi Huan jumped and ran quickly, her hands holding onto the kite string, her face beaming with joy. I chased after her, sweating profusely, but I still couldn't catch up to Mi; she floated like a drifting cloud, rising with the kite and disappearing into more clouds. 0

I shouted loudly, "Mi..." Suddenly waking up with that call, I realized Mi was not beside me. A wave of unease washed over me; I feared the kite dream. I had once promised to make a kite for her myself but had given up on that thought due to the recurring kite dreams. In the end, she had an accident because of that strange kite that should never have appeared. 0

I got up, pulled back the blanket, and went barefoot to check on Mi. Holding the key in my hand, I unlocked the door and saw Mi leaning against the wall, quietly crying. 0

"Mi." I firmly grasped her shoulder; she turned to look at me. To my surprise, she was not Mi at all but the ghost I had saved. "Who are you?" This time I truly woke up, opening my eyes as a blinding light streamed in through the window. 0

It was already bright outside. I yawned and remembered that Mi had been sleeping beside me last night; she should be in the mourning hall now. 0

I picked up my phone and saw two missed calls—one from a heavyset person and one from Qin Jian. 0

I dialed Qin Jian's number. 0

"Ma Qi, I've found out about Wei Min's husband. He runs a shop, one of which is near Ma Wu Funeral Home." 0

"It can't be that coincidental! Are you sure?" 0

"Absolutely. Let's go take a look; the sign says Leishi Car Shop." 0

Ma Wu Funeral Home's Bridgehead car shop is called Leishi Car Shop; could Qin Jian's Leishi Car Shop be that one? With doubts in my mind, I hurriedly dressed and went to the kitchen. Mi's porridge-making skills were getting better; I wolfed down a bowl of porridge and rinsed the bowl and chopsticks under the faucet before hastily heading out. 0

Qin Jian guessed that I hadn't had breakfast. He brought some soup dumplings with him, and after eating one, I burned my mouth and got a blister on my cheek, so I didn't dare to eat any more. As the car drove away from my place, he didn't head straight to the destination but instead took a detour around the city. Only after I pressed him did he finally tell the truth. 0

"Rongrong wants to take a ride to clear her mind." 0

"She’s too playful; it can't be that simple." 0

"It seems you have a misunderstanding about Rongrong. You two are quite compatible; why not spend some time together and see?" 0

"Qin Jian, don't drag me into this. Why don’t you spend time with her?" I snapped while fastening my seatbelt. 0

"That's not the same thing; you can't just force people together." 0

"Is that so? Well, let me tell you, I'm not suitable for her at all." 0

"Forget about Rongrong for now. Where's Mi Touqi?" 0

"What do you want?" 0

"Nothing much, just wanted to remind you that the things hanging in your room should be destroyed by her seventh day." Qin Jian knew I had many pictures of Mi hanging up, but I didn’t like him meddling in my personal affairs. I frowned and didn’t want to say much. Seeing that I was silent, Qin Jian glanced at me again and asked, "Didn’t sleep well last night?" 0

"Are you done yet?" I replied angrily. 0

Qin Jian was taken aback and chuckled bitterly, "You’ve turned into a dog; your fur is standing on end." 0

"You haven't reached my level yet, so you wouldn't understand. We are buddies, sure, but I don’t want you interfering in my personal matters." As we approached Chi Xinrong's place, I felt increasingly anxious about how to face someone like her. "Lao Qin, you go pick her up; I'll take a taxi," I said as I prepared to jump out of the car. 0

Qin Jian shouted, "Hey, are you crazy?" 0

"If you go pick her up, then I'm not going. I'll just go back and sleep." It wasn't that I didn't want to see Chi Xinrong; it was just that I felt Qin Jian was trying to play matchmaker, and it seemed like he was bored and looking for trouble. 0

"Alright, alright, I won't go. I'll give her a call." Seeing my firm attitude, Qin Jian had no choice but to relent. He then stopped the car; we were only two blocks away from Chi Xinrong's place. Listening to him on the phone, he said, "Rongrong, I'm afraid I can't make it right now. Ma Qi and I have something very important to do, so what do you think?" After a brief pause, he hung up. 0

The car turned around and headed straight for Ma Wu Funeral Home. 0

It was barely three minutes after leaving Ma Wu Funeral Home when I had to turn back again. In the midst of my mixed feelings, Qin Jian broke the silence and asked, "Shall we check out the store today?" 0

"No, let's go directly to the car shop." 0

"Has Pang not contacted you?" 0

I hadn't returned Pang's call, nor did I mention to Qin Jian that he had called. 0

As we passed by Ma Wu Funeral Home, I spotted Peng Hai standing by the counter, engrossed in a mobile game and having a great time. 0

"Aren't you going down to see how your business is doing?" 0

"I've handed everything over to Pang. I don't have the energy to deal with it right now." 0

"Rarely do you let go like this." 0

"I seem to have heard someone say that you have to let go in order to gain." 0

"Haha..." Qin Jian laughed exaggeratedly. Before his laughter could fade, we had already arrived at Bridgehead Car Shop. 0

"Ma Qi, you have a way with women. I'm dropping you off now; go find out the details about Leishi Car Shop. I'll head over to the skewer shop to reserve a table. Chi Xinrong is coming; today we're treating her, but she'll be paying the bill. Since we're not missing out on a free meal, I'll secure a spot while you sort things out and give me a call." 0

"Got it." 0

Though he said there was no problem, I still felt uneasy. My store was right across from us, yet I didn't have time to check on it and instead was heading to this Leishi Car Shop for something completely unrelated. 0
At the Leishi Car Shop, there was a row upon row of brand new Electric Vehicles in various models. In the back, on a sofa, leaned a woman—the charming sales clerk who loved to flirt with handsome passersby. She wore a fitted, stylish autumn dress that accentuated her long legs clad in black stockings. She lay languidly on the sofa, her body tilted and her alluring gaze wandering, embodying a scene of springtime longing and helpless desire. 0

So engrossed was she in staring at her phone screen that she didn’t notice my arrival until I tapped on a car, causing it to make a sound. Startled, she looked up and, upon seeing me, her expression shifted from annoyance to delight. "It's you," she exclaimed with a beaming smile as she stood up gracefully and walked toward me. 0

She seemed unbothered by the possibility of her boss catching her in such a relaxed state. 0

"Am I not allowed to come here?" I asked. 0

"Of course you can! We have plenty of styles in the shop. That old clunker of yours should have been sold off as scrap ages ago." To be honest, that old motorcycle had already been disposed of for fifty bucks. Now I relied on Qin Jian; he had a car, and wherever he went, I followed. 0

However, after seeing all these vehicles in the shop, I really wanted to get an Electric Vehicle. The thought lingered in my mind. I considered buying one, but after deducting rent from my budget, there was hardly any money left. I thought about borrowing from Qin Jian and immediately called him. When he heard I wanted to buy an Electric Vehicle, he burst into laughter on the other end of the line. 0

"Stop laughing; this is serious business!" I retorted. 0
