Chapter 14: The Path of Return 0

"I like crowds; I don't mind getting sweaty," Qin Jian revealed his true nature. I thought he would never go to such places again, to experience the coldness of being away from the crowd, the Deathly Aura. 0

"When I get home, the first thing I'll do is take a shower, the second thing is sleep, and the third thing..." 0

"Ma Qi, look, you've forgotten the most important thing." 0

"What?" 0

"To flirt with girls, and don't forget to help Yu move on." It was clear that Qin Jian cared a lot about Yu. I wondered if I told him that Yu was actually decades older than him, would he still feel the same way? 0

"Of course, what I just said doesn't count. I need to change it: the first thing is to help Yu move on, and then bribe the Ghostly Enforcer." This was true; Yu had been dead for so long that the Underworld had long since lost her file. To get her information back on Yan Wang's desk, we had to resort to old methods—bribing the Ghostly Enforcer in charge of New Soul records. This was something I could only ask Qin Ye to handle. 0

Qin Jian stopped the car and asked as he closed the door, "Do we really have to bribe the Ghostly Enforcer?" 0

"Absolutely." Seeing that he was heading to a supermarket, I quickly added, "Get a bucket of instant noodles; my stomach has been singing an empty city plan for a while now." 0

"Are you sure?" Qin Jian grinned mischievously, revealing a set of white teeth. "I was going to treat you to a big meal. Since you like instant noodles so much, I'll save on a meal and go buy you some instead." 0

I replied, "Hey, you didn't tell me you were going to treat me..." 0

"He didn't hear that, did he?" Yu Se whispered from her corner in the shadow of the car. 0

"Yu, don't come out; the sun will hurt you." 0

"It's fine; I just want to see you a little longer." 0

I was taken aback, pointing at myself and asking her, "Me?" Could it be that you have fallen in love with me? 0

"Well, Ma Qi, you might still encounter trouble. I can't help you; I'm sorry." 0

"What do you mean? I escaped from the Ghostly Trap. Don't pretend you didn't help me." 0

Yu smiled sadly. "Ma Qi, if there is a next life, will you love me?" 0

As expected, she really had fallen for me. I stammered a bit, feeling awkward. "I'm sorry, but my heart belongs to someone else." 0

Yu fell silent, looking downcast. 0

I turned to look out the car window at the bustling crowd. Qin Jian was striding over with the things he had bought, so I hurriedly told Yu, "You should go invisible. Don't exhaust your ghostly energy; it's not good for you." 0

Yu bit her lip tightly, and tears streamed down her pale face. I had never seen a female ghost cry before; seeing it now left me stunned. 0

"You have someone in your heart in this life. What I want to ask is, can we promise to be together in the next life?" 0

I was at a loss for words. Why was Yu being so stubborn? 0

"You must be curious why I'm so insistent?" 0

"Actually, you can see through my thoughts!" 0

Yu shook her head. "No, it's because we were wed first." 0

"Ah... oh..." Now I was truly taken aback. The Yin Marriage presided over by Gui Liu and Crow seemed like a farce to me, but Yu took it seriously. She remembered this matter, and I couldn't help but wonder if she would drink Meng Po Soup when she went to Yellow Springs Road and Bridge of Helplessness. 0

Qin Jian opened the door and poked his head in, casually asking, "Hey, who are you talking to?" 0

"Yu." 0

"Oh." 0

I noticed Qin Jian was looking for her, so I added, "She left." 0

"Alright, here’s something for you to start with. Later, let’s go eat at Grandma's Soup next door." 0

"Okay." Yu's words had completely thrown me off balance. I felt a strong emotional stir and suddenly lost my appetite, though my stomach was genuinely growling. 0

I had been to Dahua Glasses before. That was when I accompanied Chi Xinrong to get her glasses. This was my first time visiting Grandma's Soup. 0

Perfect. I wanted to spend some time alone with Qin Jian, so I readily agreed. 0

Bone Jade had to stay in the car while we parked in the underground garage. 0

When we arrived at Grandma's Soup Restaurant, it was still early—around eight o'clock. The waiter thought we were there for breakfast and politely reminded us, "We don’t serve breakfast here; are you looking to have lunch?" 0

"Can we get a private room and have the food brought to us?" Qin Jian said generously, pulling out a few bills from his wallet. The waiter’s eyes lit up at the sight of money; he smiled broadly but didn’t reach for it. Instead, he made an elegant gesture, saying, "Payment is at the counter. You can go to Room 1; I’ll prepare your meal right away." 0

Qin Jian and I headed to Room 1. 0

"This is still early. If we come later, there might not be any private rooms left; we’d probably have to sit in the main hall," Qin Jian remarked. 0

"Yeah, I've heard that Grandma's Soup has great business. I didn't expect we’d actually come today." I couldn’t get enough of the restaurant's decor—it was luxurious yet not extravagant, simple yet graceful. The private room gave off a warm feeling of homecoming. 0

It was clear that Qin Jian frequented this place, moving with ease as he quickly settled into the role. 0

Inside the room, there was a redwood dining table, a television, a tea table, and a multi-purpose sofa for relaxation. 0

I sat down on the sofa with Qin Jian. As he turned on the TV, I couldn't help but recall something about him being in his mother's womb. "Qin Shuying, have you heard of her?" 0

Upon hearing that name, Qin Jian's hand trembled slightly, a barely noticeable shake. However, he quickly composed himself, turning to look at me with a scrutinizing gaze and asked, "Where did you hear that name?" 0

"Is she your mother?" 0

"Impossible. There are plenty of people with the same surname. Your Qin Shuying is definitely not my mom." Qin Jian seemed a bit angry as he tossed the remote control onto the tea table with more force than necessary. It slid across the surface, and I hurriedly pressed it down to prevent it from falling off; the floor was carpeted, so it wouldn't have broken if it did. 0

I was just puzzled as to why Qin Jian was getting angry. 0

"Qin Jian, don't be upset. We both know why we are together and why you resemble someone I know so well. If you have patience, just listen to me, okay?" 0

"What do you want to say?" Qin Jian sat down again, his expression darkening, which made me hesitate about whether I should reveal his relationship with Qin Ye. 0

"It's nothing. If you don't want to listen, then I won't waste my breath." 0

Just as Qin Jian was about to speak again, there was a knock on the door. 0

"Come in." 0

The person who entered appeared exceptionally pure—a girl with a high ponytail. She lowered her head as she came in, carrying a tray and respectfully placing it in front of us, arranging each dish one by one on the tea table. These were all dishes that Qin Jian had ordered, and they looked delicious. 0

Once the innocent-looking waitress had set everything up, she finally lifted her head and smiled at us. "Enjoy your meal." I glanced at her and was immediately stunned; how could there be someone so similar in this world? She looked just like Han Mi—her figure, nose, eyes, and that faint fragrance she carried were all strikingly familiar. 0

I shouted, "Mi." 0

This made Qin Jian widen his eyes, staring intently at the girl in front of him who resembled Han Mi. 0

The girl, unaware of whom I was calling, smiled politely and stepped back. 0

"She’s not Han Mi. Look closely; she’s ignoring you," Qin Jian said. 0

Faced with the delicious dishes before me, I had no appetite; all my thoughts were on Han Mi. I completely dismissed Qin Jian's explanation. "No, I think she is." 0

Qin Jian picked up his phone and dialed a number, though I had no idea who he was calling. 0

I had already stood up and rushed outside. 0
