Chapter 188: The Flying Flower Umbrella
"Hanzi: 'What are you afraid of? I have the talisman left by Ma Qi.'" He pulled it out directly. Damn, I really dug my own grave. The talisman I gave to Hanzi was never meant to pose a threat to me.
That talisman couldn't identify me as the Mortician, nor could it recognize its creator. It posed a lethal threat to any being that no longer existed, appearing in places it shouldn't due to some special reason.
Hanzi had a large jaw covered in a scruffy beard, resembling a bunch of withered weeds on a winter field. He was quick and efficient, swiftly pulling out the talisman and waving it in the air. The talisman emitted a blinding light, causing me to panic and cover my face as I fled.
I couldn't even bother to pick up the Flower Umbrella that had fallen on the ground; the bewildered Fatty picked it up instead. He muttered in confusion, "This is Ma Qi's favorite. Why is it just lying here? Even when it rains, he hasn't used it. It inexplicably flew out just a few minutes ago..."
"What do you mean, the Flower Umbrella flew out by itself? Are you kidding me?" Hanzi spat as he stuck the talisman onto the windshield with saliva, his eyes filled with disdain and his lips curling into a sneer. He added, "Are you afraid of ghosts?"
Hanzi was indeed Zhang's son, but he hadn't inherited Uncle Zhang's straightforward and honest way of dealing with people. His indiscretion in pursuing women behind closed doors had a negative impact, and his words were sharp and sarcastic, traits that seemed to come from his mother.
Fatty was also someone who cared about his image. Hearing Hanzi's words, he tried to regain some dignity by laughing and saying, "Afraid of ghosts? Do you think I'm scared of ghosts?" Fatty's words were disjointed; deep down, he was frightened and lacked confidence. He kept bringing up the magazine about the Flower Umbrella flying away but now claimed he wasn't afraid of ghosts.
Hanzi let out a cold laugh, too lazy to respond as he turned and walked away.
Fatty looked disdainfully at Hanzi's departing car and muttered under his breath, "What an arrogant jerk. One day I'll drive around with a girl in my car too."
I hid in the Funeral Home, feeling anxious.
Yuhua was still waiting for me to rescue her.
Li Gui was nowhere to be found.
The strangest thing was that Grandpa's body had disappeared.
Fatty was utterly useless in this situation.
What should I do?
Fatty glanced nervously at the Paper Man he had made in the shop, clutching a feather duster in his hand, muttering, "Ma Qi, you plague god, where the hell are you?"
I raised my hand and slapped him hard. I thought I wouldn't hit him, but this time not only did I hit him, but it was also quite a solid blow.
Fatty was stunned, and in a comical display, he quickly bolted out of the shop. He stood at the door like he had seen a ghost, one hand gripping the duster while the other cradled his sore face, staring intently at the Funeral Home's entrance, too scared to return inside.
Someone passing by asked Fatty what was wrong.
Fatty stammered, unable to explain clearly and too embarrassed to let go of his face.
Sigh! That fool, both pitiful and infuriating.
Honestly, I was foolish too. Instead of scaring Fatty like this, I should have taken charge and then gone after Li Gui to reclaim everything before rescuing Yu.
Fatty needed time; I had to patiently wait for an opportunity. Just when I was resolute in my thoughts, that damned Fatty unexpectedly ran back in and passed right through me before stopping and slowly turning to glance at me. That look surprised me; I almost thought he could see me. Perhaps when Fatty passed through my body earlier, he still felt something—just not clearly.
Fatty went into the partition and quickly came out with a treasure in hand.
It was a Bagua Mirror that had originally been hanging at the entrance of the Funeral Home—how did it end up in Fatty's hands? Confusion turned into realization as I recalled that someone must have taken down the Bagua Mirror beforehand; otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to enter the shop so smoothly!
So who took down the Bagua Mirror?
This Bagua Mirror had long been fixed in place, right above the doorway where people frequently entered and exited. My grandfather had warned me that if the Bagua Mirror turned black, it needed to be replaced; otherwise, hanging it would be pointless. After all, there were many items used by the dead in the shop, and we feared those things would rush in like bandits and take over everything.
Especially during Ghost Month, my grandfather paid extra attention to whether the Bagua Mirror was still effective.
As a Mortician, my grandfather inevitably encountered tricky and bizarre spirits. Even if he managed to subdue them with spells, they would return for terrifying revenge whenever they found an opportunity—just like Li Gui. With one face showing kindness while hiding another agenda behind it, my grandfather's good nature left him vulnerable to being caught off guard.
But why would someone take it down at this critical moment?
Without time to ponder my questions, Fat picked up the Bagua Mirror and waved it around the room, startling Old Cat, who quickly retreated into the bedroom.
"How strange, I definitely feel something..." Fat muttered to himself outside.
I hid behind the door, scanning the room. Looking at the bed, I noticed something I had hidden beneath it, so I crouched down and crawled under.
The Soul Stone emitted a dark red glow from beneath the bed. As I reached for it, I was surprised to find it merging naturally into my palm. I quickly looked around; the Soul Stone had truly vanished.
"Master, stop looking. I'm inside your body."
"Who?"
"It's me, I'm the Spirit Stone. My name is Stone, and I'm your protective stone. We are one now to deal with the Evil Sorcerer Li Gui."
"Stone, what should I do next?"
"You and Fat complement each other's destinies. Without you, his life will be difficult; without him, you will face continuous misfortune." Stone's words struck a chord with me. I had been too arrogant, thinking that without Fat, I could handle things without trouble, but after visiting Monkey Spirit's house, things went awry.
"It's fine; continue."
Stone continued, "Your grandfather arranged for you two to be together for a reason. Now you must do something ruthless to successfully defeat Li Gui."
"What should I do?"
"First step: occupy Fat's body. Second step: hurry to rescue Chi Xinrong. Third step: drive Li Gui out of his shell. Fourth step: save Bone Jade." Truly worthy of being the Spirit Stone, it had everything meticulously planned out, acting as my strategist.
I waved my hand decisively. "Alright, let's follow your plan."
The Spirit Stone responded promptly, "Good. You follow my command; I'll go first, then you follow."
"K."
Just then, Fat pushed open my bedroom door, peeking in with his head. He was holding the Bagua Mirror but didn’t have time to pass it in. He mumbled, "Who, who is talking?"
As I realized that Fat had overheard my earlier words and was contemplating whether to silence him, I suddenly heard Shitou's command: "Go." My body felt a lightness as if I were a star, and I swiftly floated toward Fat's Yintang point.
Then, I felt a blur in front of me, followed by a dull thud that sounded like something heavy falling to the ground. Shitou's voice came again: "Control his body with your mind."
I slightly closed my eyes, focusing my spirit; controlling Fat's body was not difficult.
"Alright."
Shitou's tone was cheerful and light. "You can open your eyes now."
