Chapter 157: The Mysterious Person 0

With Mi Pang present, where could the essence of this phantom in my arms be? We exchanged glances, each recounting the strange occurrences that had happened to us. 0

Mi said, "A person dressed in black brought me here and told me to lie down in a coffin, saying someone would come looking for me." 0

"Did you see what he looked like?" 0

Mi shook his head. "No." 0

Pang added, "I don't remember anything. I just vaguely followed someone here. He told me to lie down, and then I lost all awareness." 0

"Forget it. What you both experienced is different from my situation. Don't forget why we are here." 0

Mi and Pang replied in unison, "To investigate Chi Xinrong's case." 0

"Right." Since we were investigating Chi Xinrong, where exactly were we now? 0

After a moment of thought, Mi suddenly realized and said, "Evil Miasma Manor." 0

It was indeed surprising; we were really at Evil Miasma Manor. 0

"I've heard that there’s a stone coffin here that can bring people back to life. I wonder if that's true?" Pang's mention of the coffin reminded me of it as well. 0

With Chi Xinrong missing and Chiang's urn being empty, could it be that they intended to borrow a corpse for resurrection? The stone coffin, Evil Miasma Manor, Chi Xinrong's disappearance, and the ashes of the missing Chiang—all these events connected together reveal the whole story. 0

Chi Xinrong was clearly schemed against before her disappearance. Then Chi Ruiqiang requested to bury Chiang, only to discover the urn was empty. This indicates that Chiang had not undergone cremation; his body—"Chiang's body was once placed in a coffin, and within it lay Chi Xinrong as well—she was also lying in that coffin where Mi was." 0

As I stepped out, Fatty trembled all over, spitting and jumping in place. No matter how he jumped, the stench of death that had seeped from the coffin was not going to dissipate easily. 0

Mi furrowed her brows, clearly disturbed by the corpse odor emanating from Fatty. 0

Thinking about this made my heart skip a beat, and without a second thought, I rushed outside. I had to admit, Evil Miasma Manor was quite spacious; the room we were in was still several corridors away from the stone coffin at the entrance. 0

Although this place had fallen into disrepair, with leaves scattered on the ground and dust and cobwebs accumulating on the wooden beams, the trees outside the manor had grown into towering giants. A chilling wind blew through, making it feel eerie and cold. Yet, the architectural structure here remained intact. 0

I thought to myself that someone must be helping me from the shadows; otherwise, how could I have found Mi so accurately? And to have brought me right to this place without any mistakes—who could it be? The name Qin Ye suddenly leaped into my mind. 0

Qin Ye was elusive, like a phantom in a movie, appearing in impossible situations time and again. Yes, I was sure it was him! It had to be him. 0

Could the person Fatty mentioned to Mi also be Qin Ye? 0

I set aside my doubts for now and urged Mi and Fatty to follow me as we dashed outside, faint voices echoing in the distance. 0

"That Dean Chi is ruthless; he sacrificed his niece to save his own son." 0

"His niece was truly beautiful, with delicate skin and a stunning figure. That backside—tch! What a waste!" 0

"Don't lament too much; if Master can successfully borrow her corpse for resurrection this time, who knows? He might even attract a son-in-law. How about you marry into that family?" 0

"Just thinking about it is terrifying; let's forget it." 0

"Then you stay here hammering away; let’s hurry and move the Paper Man." 0

Two figures, one tall and one short, hurriedly approached us through the dark, shadowy night. In a moment of panic, I quickly signaled to Mi and Fat Yi to slip into the nearest house. 0

"Damn!" Mi was the first to rush inside, startled. I hurriedly covered her mouth to prevent her from screaming. 0

Inside, it was pitch black, making it hard to see anything. I could sense that there were many people in the room. Tall and short, these figures seemed to lack any breath—were they dead? I steadied Mi and took a few steps forward, feeling her tremble beside me, though not out of the fear I expected. 0

Having gone through terrifying experiences together, Mi had grown braver. With me and Fat Yi by her side, she naturally felt less afraid. Oddly enough, if there were indeed dead bodies here, why was there no Deathly Aura? As I reached out to touch something, my fingers brushed against a paper object, and I realized this place was filled with paper creations. 0

"Shh, it's just Paper Figurines. Don't be scared." 0

Mi remained silent, but it seemed she had relaxed a bit, as she squeezed my arm in response. 0

At the same time, Fat Yi also sensed that the room was made of paper. Moreover, without needing any light, I could distinctly smell not only the musty odor but also a faint scent of incense in the air. 0

In front of us was an Altar set up for a resurrection ritual; Chi Xinrong was the sacrifice. Therefore, Chiang's body must be stored in that coffin to produce the corpse's aura. 0

I fiddled with my lighter when a sudden thought struck me. 0

The person who came to move the Paper Man must be a disciple of the one who set up the Altar. Could that altar maker be Li Gui? 0

"Fat Yi, you and Mi hide behind that tree by the door. I'll create some chaos." 0

"Brother Qi, what are you planning to do?" 0

"Shh... Someone's coming. You two better get ready to leave." 0

Pang, hidden in the darkness, puffed up his cheeks to get a better look at what I was doing. I pushed him away with a hand, and he had no choice but to retreat with Mi. I estimated that the two others would arrive soon, so I quickly flicked my lighter and held it under a Paper Figurine. Thinking about the mischief I was up to, I couldn't help but chuckle smugly. 0

The dry Paper Figurine caught fire quickly; flames leapt upward, and the entire figurine was engulfed in flames. By the time it was burning brightly, I had already dashed outside to join Mi and the others. 0

We hid beneath a large fir tree, closely watching the burning Paper Figurine. 0

At first, it was just a small flame, then it grew into a massive blaze, thick smoke billowing into the air. The firelight stood out starkly against the night, and I heard the two people rushing over to move the Paper Man scream in shock as they ran into the room where the Paper Figurine was ablaze. They looked around frantically for something to extinguish the fire but could only take off their clothes to beat at it. 0

To my surprise, their clothes caught fire too. 0

One of them shouted, "Hu, this isn't working! You go tell the master; I'll keep trying to put out the fire." 0

This was exactly the effect I wanted. As long as one of them went to find their so-called master, I'd have a chance to see who this master really was or if they were just Li Gui, this Old Monster. 0

The Paper Figurine inside was less than two meters tall; even though it was burning fiercely, it wouldn't cause a major fire. I had calculated this before lighting it. After all, if a big fire broke out because of this incident, I'd be in deep trouble myself. 0
