Chapter 145: Ghost Month Taboos (Part Twenty-Five) 0

The Evil Spirit, fierce and terrifying with a mouth full of foul blood, was wild but still too immature to emerge fully. It was sucked into the Dao Bottle with a whoosh, like a light and weightless wisp of smoke. 0

I hurriedly sealed it with the Exorcism Talisman. 0

Uncle Zhang lay on the ground, barely conscious, his arm stained red with blood. I quickly tore off a piece of my sleeve to bandage his wound and said to Fatty, "We need to get out of here." I had caught the Evil Spirit that Li Gui was refining, and it would not let us go easily; a fierce battle was inevitable. 0

Uncle Zhang was gravely injured, and Fatty struggled to carry him, so I took over. 0

"Uncle Zhang, hang in there. You mustn't die." My heart ached; after Grandpa Lao Luo left us, Uncle Zhang was the only person I could talk to. He was an old veteran who knew so much. Calling him here tonight might have been a mistake. 0

It had been dangerous for him to rush out earlier, but without him, I wouldn't have been able to catch the still-immature Evil Spirit. 0

"Uncle Zhang will be fine; he won't die," Fatty said, lacking any comforting words. You can't expect anything wise from him. 0

I cursed inwardly and ran forward quickly because Uncle Zhang's blood would attract more evil spirits. Li Gui also fed on blood to refine the Evil Spirit; the evil spirits were sensitive to the smell of blood. 0

The dark aura grew heavier. Cobblestone Street was shrouded in a sense of death, with strange rustling sounds coming from all directions. Fatty saw glowing green eyes in the darkness and screamed in terror, running for his life with his heavy body. 0

"Run... run... damn it." 0

Blood dripped along our path as we gasped for breath, still circling back to where we started. Across from us was the window through which the Evil Spirit had emerged; a street tree leaned against a lamppost, its trunk grotesquely swollen halfway up. 0

Uncle Zhang's breath grew weaker on my back. At first, he managed to respond when I called out to him, but soon he slipped into unconsciousness. 0

We needed a hospital; Uncle Zhang needed medical attention. My phone had no signal, and the shadows grew darker. Beneath that oppressive darkness lurked the stirring Dark Power. The sneaky rustling sounds made it easy to imagine a group of clawing evil spirits drooling at the thought of devouring us. 0

Strangely enough, Li Gui did not appear. 0

Fatty and I, along with Uncle Zhang on my back, were about to become a feast for the gathering evil spirits. 0

This cannot go on; rather than being trapped here, I might as well fight to the death. 0

I set Uncle Zhang down and instructed the fat man to keep watch. Waiting for the right moment, I charged into the heart of the evil spirits, breaking through the Ghost Wall. He took Uncle Zhang and fled swiftly. With everything in place, I quickly adjusted my emotions, focused my mind, and performed the Pangu Formula, chanting: "All Living Beings, assist me in this battle; Exorcism, restore balance; spirit of spirits, urgent command!" I summoned the spirits of all things to gather within me, preparing for a desperate fight against overwhelming odds. 0

With all my strength, I charged toward the throng of evil spirits, willing to be torn to pieces if necessary. Just as I plunged into their midst, I was taken aback by the disarray among them. 0

Standing quietly among the evil spirits was a figure. 0

He was strikingly handsome, his aura powerful enough to obliterate countless evil spirits. 0

Qin Ye! 0

"Child, are you seeking death? It's not that easy." As his garments billowed, cries of agony echoed around us as wisps of malevolent spirits were shattered by his immense presence. The remnants of evil spirits lay scattered everywhere. Suddenly, it dawned on me why Li Gui had yet to appear; he must have sensed Qin Ye's formidable aura here. 0

Qin Ye truly was extraordinary; he had not noticed me at all. 0

At this critical moment, he stepped in to assist me, and I was genuinely impressed. 0

Not wanting to be outdone, I drew back my bow and began to sweep away the surrounding evil spirits. We fought with increasing vigor; we had never collaborated so seamlessly before. Now, working together against the evil spirits felt effortless. 0

The ordinary spirits cowered at their lairs and dared not emerge. After a vigorous onslaught alongside Qin Ye, Cobblestone Street was significantly cleared. The dark forces gradually dissipated, revealing a glimmer of light as street lamps flickered on one by one. 0

Under the glow of the streetlights, Qin Ye and I exchanged glances. 0

"Qin Uncle." 0

"Child, you seem well." 0

"Who exactly are you?" 0

"Curiosity killed the cat; you'd better not be too curious about me." As Qin Ye spoke, he seemed ready to leave. I suddenly remembered Qin Jian and casually asked, "Did Qin Jian find you?" What I really meant was that Qin Ye's timely appearance must have been because Qin Jian located him, which is how he knew I was going to deal with the evil spirit on Cobblestone Street. 0

That's why he came. 0

But I didn't expect Qin Ye to respond to the mention of that name with indifference, casually waving his hand. "Not at all! Thanks..." 0

"Hey, Qin Ye~" Calling out was futile; it was as if he had never been there at all. He vanished effortlessly, leaving only a faint memory in my mind. There was a strange feeling that he didn't belong to this world yet could appear wherever he was needed. He was omnipotent yet also terrifying. 0

How ridiculous; I once thought of taking him as my mentor! I didn't even know who he was or what his background was. It was simply Lao Luo who mentioned him once. Perhaps he had no connection to Qin Jian at all; it was just me who inadvertently linked the two together. 0

As I walked toward the entrance of Cobblestone Street, I spotted Fatty and Uncle Zhang stumbling in the distance. I hurried a few steps to catch up. 0

Uncle Zhang's bleeding had stopped, but he still looked weak and pale. The wounds on his neck were alarming, with two bite marks visible. 0

"I'll carry you." 0

I lifted Uncle Zhang onto my back while Fatty followed behind, our heavy footsteps mixing with lighter ones and breaths. At this moment, Fatty still had the interest to ask about what had just happened, walking alongside me as he inquired, "Brother Qi, is everything settled?" 0

"Pretty much." 0

"It feels like we just staged a real-life version of Soul Street; you're like the Soul Keeper." 0

I grimaced; Uncle Zhang felt lighter on my back with each passing moment, and I began to fear this sensation of weightlessness. 0

"Uncle Zhang, you need to hang in there; the nightmare is over." 0

"Quack..." 0

All the streetlights on Cobblestone Street lit up, illuminating the night ahead. The cawing of crows circled overhead, startling Fatty as he kept glancing around. We were getting closer now; I could hear the sound of her leading people in chanting prayers. 0

A strange light burst forth from the Dao Bottle, swirling around us before heading straight for the location of Mi and the others. 0

The Fat One didn’t see the white light; he was still examining Crow. 0

“Brother Qi, Crow is ominous.” 0

The call of Crow signifies death. 0

This is a saying passed down among the people in our area. 0

I felt tense, gripping Uncle Zhang on my back even tighter. “Make the call.” 0

“Oh, oh.” The Fat One pulled out his phone and dialed 110. The response came quickly, and I let out a sigh of relief, whispering to Uncle Zhang, “It’s okay, Uncle Zhang. It will be fine soon.” My voice trembled; I wanted to be angry, but no matter how I felt, I never imagined that Uncle Zhang would be bitten by an Evil Spirit. 0

Although it was a weak Evil Spirit, its poison was incredibly potent. There was no cure. The Corpse Poison depicted in movies could be neutralized with glutinous rice, but the poison of an Evil Spirit had no antidote. 0
