Chapter 098: Dead Loop (Part Six) 0

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the once quiet and solemn scene quickly descended into chaos. 0

Fortunately, Chiang's death was so strange that, since it wasn't yet time for the burial, there weren't many people who had come to pay their respects. Only a few relatives were managing things at the Spirit Pavilion. I noticed a woman hurriedly running inside to fetch Yunnan Baiyao as she glanced at the uncontrollable blood. Suddenly, I spotted a girl standing quietly under a tree in the greenbelt diagonally across from us. She faced us, completely still, her gaze intensely focused. 0

The Yunnan Baiyao was applied to the wound and immediately stopped the bleeding. 0

Uncle Zhang asked, "Will it be a problem if the portrait frame is broken?" 0

I turned back and replied, "An ominous sign." When I looked again at the girl standing in the shadow, she had vanished. 0

A relative brought a dustpan to sweep up the shards of glass on the ground. I quickly called out, "Don't touch that." 0

On the ground, beneath the shards of glass, the blood flowed in a strangely lifelike manner, curving and twisting to form a blood-red letter. 0

A capital letter "L." Before I could react further, the bewildered relative had already cleaned up the glass shards along with that blood letter. 0

I exchanged glances with Uncle Zhang. To be honest, if Uncle Zhang were a few years younger, I would definitely want him by my side; he was more reliable than Fatty and acted swiftly without needing much supervision. 0

Uncle Zhang observed silently and, following my cue, went to grab my bag from the motorcycle. 0

My bag contained many items. 0

Among them were several crystal balls that hadn't been used in a long time. 0

The atmosphere here was heavy with malevolence. I feared that the broken portrait frame was an ill omen; if anything else happened, it would truly be disastrous. I couldn't stay here for twenty-four hours straight. If I couldn't remain here, I needed to set up a formation to dispel the negative energy. 0

I sensed that this situation was strange and dangerous, something that could not be suppressed by ordinary magical tools. I thought of using the Crystal Seven Star Formation, which could gather energy and maximize the magnetic field. 0

I arranged six crystal balls in two overlapping layers to form equal angles, and placed a larger crystal ball in the center to create a star shape. This formation would be set at the entrance of the Spirit Pavilion. I couldn't believe that any evil entity would dare to breach the Seven Star Formation and recklessly disrupt the spirit hall. 0

After completing everything, Chi Ruiqiang cast a questioning glance at me. I didn't feel like explaining to someone like him; only Uncle Zhang understood what was going on, and perhaps Fat understood as well. When I found the car with Chi Ruiqiang to head to the funeral home, I reminded him once again that no one, especially women, should disturb the Seven Star Formation I had set up. 0

We got into a Mercedes-Benz, driven by one of Chi Ruiqiang's colleagues. He wasn't very talkative and drove silently, clearly skilled behind the wheel. 0

I asked Uncle Zhang, "Uncle Zhang, do you remember what happened some time ago?" 0

"What happened?" 0

I scratched my nose and glanced at the driver before lowering my voice. "Some time ago, strange things were happening to me, and Fat stirred up a lot of people to drive me away." 0

Uncle Zhang shifted uneasily in his seat, his eyes widening in surprise. "Is that true?" 0

If there was anyone I could trust, it was Uncle Zhang and Han Mi. Uncle Zhang had watched me grow up. I knew how deep his friendship with my grandfather was, so I had to believe him. 0

Han Mi had suffered alongside me; her words were the only ones I trusted. 0

Uncle Zhang seemed skeptical that Fat would do such a thing to me, which naturally surprised him. However, I was puzzled as well—something significant had occurred at Ma Wu Funeral Home; it must have made quite a stir. Uncle Zhang lived not far from there; how could he not know? 0

"It's complicated," I said. "Uncle Zhang, do you ever experience auditory hallucinations or fantasies in real life?" 0

Uncle Zhang nodded. "Such phenomena do exist; it depends on the circumstances." 0

"I am truly at a loss. After a few moments, I was left in a daze, completely unaware of what was happening. The situation with Fatty is entirely different from what I've encountered." 0

Uncle Zhang chuckled, his wrinkled face scrunching together. "I don't understand the matters of you young people. When you weren't around, I asked Fatty where you went, but he didn't know either. He even took me to see your room, which was a complete mess, as if it had been ransacked. He said he helped you tidy it up." Suddenly, he seemed to remember something and shifted the topic. "Now that I think about it, I want to ask you, what were you doing out there?" 0

"I don't know. It felt like I had a long and arduous dream, visiting a strange place and experiencing bizarre events that I can't quite explain. I'm not sure what happened." 0

"Ah. You child, without your grandfather around, are you feeling lost and aimless? You seem quite capable; when you do things, there's a method to your madness—you're not aimless at all." 0

"Uncle Zhang, am I...?" I initially wanted to ask Uncle Zhang if my background was somewhat different from others and why my experiences were things that ordinary people would find hard to accept. However, as the thought crossed my mind, I remembered there was someone else in the car with me. Instead of voicing my question, I focused on the road ahead as we turned into a narrow yet tranquil lane. Scattered along the road were pieces of Joss Paper, and about fifty meters ahead on the right side stood a tall chimney rising into the clouds amidst a cluster of low white buildings. 0

The car moved slowly forward, with towering trees lining the roadside creating a barrier that blocked out the sun. Without these trees providing shade and darkness, this road might have seemed clean; however, with their presence, it took on an eerie and sinister atmosphere. Even Baymax wouldn't dare walk down this path; sitting in the car, one could only steal quick glances at the dense shadows beneath the trees. 0

A girl stood motionless by the roadside, her face filled with despair as she stared intently at our vehicle. Her eyes didn't blink once—I had seen her before. I quickly focused again, but she had vanished. 0

Noticing my expression, Uncle Zhang hurriedly followed my gaze outside the window as if there was something worth seeing. Clearly, he saw nothing and asked curiously, "What are you looking at?" 0

It’s not pleasant to say this; Uncle Zhang is an ordinary person who hasn't reached the point of seeing such things yet. Generally speaking, when one starts seeing these things, it often means that their time is drawing near. 0

I couldn't share this thought with Uncle Zhang. In truth, being able to see such things is either a curse or an unwilling revelation. Sometimes you start off unable to see anything at all until suddenly you're confronted with something ominous—like seeing your deceased grandmother—then you know it's time to be cautious. 0

"Nothing much; I was just wondering if we took a wrong turn." 0

I intended this remark for Uncle Zhang, but unexpectedly the driver chimed in with concern: "I could find this road with my eyes closed; how could we possibly go wrong?" 0

His words sent a chill down my spine. If I really thought about it, I wondered how Driver Uncle could navigate any road blindfolded but somehow managed to find his way to a crematorium and funeral home—seems like your good days are coming to an end. 0

"Get up, I really didn't pay attention to what this Driver Uncle who brought us to the funeral home looks like." I couldn't help but glance at him, and in that moment, I saw a face in the Rearview Mirror that shouldn't exist. 0

I let out a cold laugh and said, "How bold of you! You dare to come here while I'm in the car?" 0

"What nonsense are you talking, kid? Calling yourself 'Grandpa' at such a young age. That guy who called himself 'Grandpa' is now dead. Do you want to follow in his footsteps?" The driver uncle was furious. Although he continued driving, his words were laced with hidden meaning. 0

Uncle Zhang, who usually played the peacemaker in any situation, sensed that my sudden outburst had a reason behind it. He quickly smiled at the driver and said, "Brother, he's not cursing you or me; he's cursing the restless thing in the car." As he spoke, a cold wind rushed toward him, causing him to scream instinctively and touch his face, staring at me in shock. 0

At the same time, the driver was taken aback by Uncle Zhang's words and his unusual scream. He slightly turned his head to look back, but suddenly the steering wheel became unresponsive and veered off course toward a tree by the roadside. The car was heading straight for that large tree. 0

Everything happened so fast that the driver uncle didn't know what was going on. He thought it was his distraction causing the situation to worsen. Terrified, he desperately grabbed the steering wheel. "You ungrateful thing! If you don't know your place, I'll beat you until your soul leaves your body—believe it or not?" I quickly pulled out a talisman, muttering incantations under my breath as I pressed it against the driver's back. 0

With a pop—malicious hatred and resentment seemed to dissolve into the air as I made my move. 0

The driver managed to stabilize the car without crashing and let out a sigh of relief, wiping away cold sweat as he gasped for air. "Phew, phew!" Then, under Uncle Zhang's shocked gaze, he explained with a shaky voice, "Damn it, that was weird! Just now I couldn't control the steering wheel; it felt like a wobbly tricycle trying to veer off to one side." 0
